Drake works along with his producers Boi-1da and Noah “40″ Shebib and craft great music. It is not like he just goes out and buy expensive beats from Neptunes or Timbaland. My biggest problem with your argument is calling either of them musicians because neither of them are. Often, in hip-hop, there’s a beat maker (ghosted often, the actual musician) and a producer (takes the beat to another level, adds additional elements; examples: dr.dre, just blaze). Sometimes they are one of the same. Kanye West could be called a musician because he creates beats.
Drake can not because he’s a lyricists just like Royce. The only tools they have are their words and their vocals. For the most part, to my understanding, they have little influence over the actual beat. Granted I know some producers and MC’s have better relationships and theirs “recommendations” from the MC but the reality is it’s the producer who is the musician. The MC is just a orator and lyricists both of which are just as vital.
Anyways, I also have a problem with your dismissal of Royce Da 5′9″. He’s “created” (just like Drake “created” Over) plenty of magic tracks in the past – Part Of Me, Shake This. Both of these tracks are superior than Drake’s Over. You’re mistaking Royce’s love of hip-hop and producing give aways for fans as him not being able to create quality songs which is wrong and stupid.
My general rule is that it takes more originality to create a song and less to write a freestyle when someone else has laid the path. Though, it takes more originality to take a song after an artist has created a song and turn it to something else or better. It’s rarely done (and I’m not saying this is an example).

Early beatsmiths didn’t have instruments or know how to play, so they sampled. But you have guys now that CAN play, but there’s a sonic quality from a sample that can’t be reproduced. A recording warmth, sometimes. Sometimes you just want to reset from the sample loop. Depends. But you’re right. Jacking beats is NOT a sign of a weak artist.

And dont think I havent heard Street Hop. The album is a roller-coaster of greatness and sloppyness. The Premier tracks are Fire! But except from them and a couple other track, there is too much filler.

Rappers rap over beats because the beats are GOOD and\or they have nostalgic purposes (See a shit load of rappers going over Souls of Mischief 93′ till Infinity beat.) That’s the reason Royce went over the beat: Because it was good. Hell, Budden was asking for it the DAY the song came out. You can’t call it a lack of creativity when they simple wanna rhyme over a hot beat.

Last night Royce “tweeted” about doing the over beat, because everyone wanted him to. Three hours later, he was posting the link. Then I don’t remember how long after that he was saying he was in no way dissing Drake. So basically, he did this for his fans when he got around to it.

good record,I listened to this Twice,the original once but it’s a dope song either way. I am still not very keen on people gettin on new hyped beats right away,but I honestly liked “In This World” much more than “Over”,due to hype u probably won’t see too many rappers get on that beat and try and “kill it”

I don’t think that Drake’s version is bad, I just don’t think its better. Listened when it was first posted was like eh, its ok, something i’d neva listen to again. Royce spit, his flow unique. It was not simply fast, he had a stutter cadence that broke up the bar. Drake stole a portion of his flow from DP. As a listener who peeps music to see how creative a person gets on a record, i’d give the nod to royce. Drake’s chorus was forgettable, but it was the best part.
Enjoy the music for what it is. Stop comparing the versions. They’re both great.
