another boring rhymesayers artist. I know they’re supposed to be “underground” & not trying to actually sell records, but really… I’d think I’d be more entertained listening to Taylor Swift freestyle over Exhibit C

Calling Rhymesayers artists boring is a bitch move.
They’ve been a growth hormone for Twin Cities hip hop.

& “They’ve been a growth hormone for Twin Cities hip hop”… which explains why no one cares. Sans that one MF DOOM cd like 6 yrs ago Rhymesayers is whack. Smh at any label with Atmosphere as “flagship artists”
spaceman said this on February 6th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Rhymesayer’s, like all labels associated with backpack rap, gets a bad rap more from its either culturally ignorant or overly righteous fans rather than the musicmakers themselves. Case in point: drunk guy after the PUTs show telling Grieves he reminded him of Atmosphere (not slug) and totally deserved to be signed on to Rhymesayers.

SPACEMAN IS JUS BEEIN REAL. I AGREE WITH HIM. 1ST OFF OFCOURSE RHYMESAYERS HAS GOOD ARTISTS BUT U CANT TRULY TELL ME THAT THEIR LINEUP MAKES INTERESTING MUSIC. WITH THIS GRIEVES KAT, IM SURE HES TALENTED OR ELSE HE WOULDNT HAV BEEN SIGNED, BUT WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE A BACKPACK RAP YOUNG WHITE KID PROBABLY DEALING WITH THE NORMAL ANGST OF A YOUNG BORING LIFE. IM SURE HE PROBABLY MOVED TO BROOKLYN OR SOMTHING AND REFINED HIS CULTURAL AWARENESS. ITS NOT NECESSARILY BAD, BUT SHIT TELL ME HOW THIS MUSIC TURNS UR BRAIN ON?

A-Mar said this on February 6th, 2010 at 5:43 pm
SpaceMan I feel you. I understand where you comin from.
So those we who dont let me enlighten you. He’s not saying all of Rhymesayers artist are boring… Just a large amount of them. Now by boring he means listening to the album and a large amoutn of the songs are not playful, fun, or have anything that is either danceable or something with witty lyrics in. Hearing an artist talk about life and struggle is fine, but if thats all your music is about… then its not fun listening to you. Now trust me I love up lifting songs like this too. But I also life to hear a rapper show off his lyrical skills, be witty and make me laugh. I also want to dance. Remember, you can dance to hiphop, thats how it started.
So yea this guys is dope and all, but I cant listen to artist when most of his music either makes me want to go to sleep or feel sad. Life is too short. I listen artists that has personality.
Like Blu. He makes these kind of songs, but he also makes songs like “Nuts Hang” In that he was talking about absolutely nothing of substance, but it was enjoyable and I liked it. Thats a song I can play when Im happy.
Thats the difference.

@ AVGVSTVS thanx, & u proved my point I was entertained by that, a lot more than this. I dont think this guy, Atmosphere or Brother Ali are bad rappers at all. I just don’t think they are intersting. The difference between Grieves and Brother Ali & Slug is that they may not be the most intersting, but they have charisma. This guy doesnt.
On another note I still bump Mm..Food? a lot

On a serious note, no one should hate on an opinion when it’s laid out in cerebral fashion with no mention of mamas.
AVGVSTVS said this on February 6th, 2010 at 6:05 pm
Rhymesayers is actually one of the more disapointing labels in hip hop to me. Ofcourse atmosphore and ali are the standouts.but as you go down their roster from there, they keep signing more rappers and the music they put out straitup OBSCURE. for a minute it seemed like they would be one of the biggest forces in hip hop, at the point where everybody was sayin “hip hop is dead and where on the lookout for somthin fresh. they are no longer that breath of fresh air.
DEZ said this on February 6th, 2010 at 6:12 pm

Kylelight said this on February 6th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
@ Audible J. Evidence is cool, just nothing i ever felt i needed to download. Its not just Rhymesayers (but a lot of examples tend to be on rhymesayers), but there are a lot of technically good rappers who just have no personality and are boring.
All of Slaughterhouse
Most of Rhymesayers
I like Wale, but thats the opinion on him
Jay Electronica
J Cole
Beanie Sigel
theres more, but if they were more intersting I’d remember
Lil Wayne, Juelz Santana, Jeezy, even Kanye are pretty much all good at putting random punchlines together, but not really being technically good, but they have personalities and are infectious.
I try to listen to artists that I think are lyrical and infectious at the same time.
spaceman said this on February 6th, 2010 at 8:06 pm

And to the people saying whats with the cliche white college rappers. You realize that there are a shitload more white people in this country than black, yet rap still has more blacks than white. It’s not cliche, they are just getting in to this style. And as far as college, many dudes went to college. Kanye, Wale, Naledge, Nickelus F, plenty more. Shit didn’t Game go to college? Stop being fucking retarded people.
What you should be asking is what’s with all the cliche black “gangster” rappers? There’s more “gangster” rappers in the world today than there are ganagsters
