I alluded to this mix when I posted Greg Street’s tribute to Martin Luther King, and it turns out that the homie khal was the mastermind behind the mix. Very dopeness.

very cool.
DOPEEE!
some niggas will do anything to get a post. another classic case of the use/abuse of the house that is “Dilla.” what ever happened to artist integrity.
much love
dopeeee
do anything to get a post? how about i like Dilla beats, was doing a lot of messing around in ACID, and threw some instrumentals together under MLK’s speech, as a tribute to two important figures in my life. have i been harping on this mix for the last two years? no. i posted it on my blog and was surprised at the response. fix your face and either enjoy it or don’t bother with it.
lol do anything to get a post. that’s funny.
mediafire? possibly?
“mediafire? possibly?”
uploading now.
the fact that you are adding to the problem is what’s funny… just because you use someone’s beats… or speech (because they’re important figures on your life) doesn’t make it art.. and it doesn’t make it music… AND it doesn’t make it dope. That’s reality. And the fact that you’ve been harping on it for two years… sad in that you could’ve chosen one of SEVERAL ways to show respect/pay homage. But what you’ve accomplished is not that at all… you’ve really just joined the group of “artists” that have abused Dilla’s legacy in a non-tasteful manner… and you’ve managed to do the same to MLK. How about donating the research of Lupus or blogging about the impact MLK’s part in the civil rights movement effected your personally and/or black and american culture… no beat tape required. And if you thought you weren’t going to receive positive and NEGATIVE feedback… you should stop “messing” around with music period.

Good look on the link!
LOL at your assumptions – never said this was “art”, nor was i making some grandiose spectacle about this being music. truth be told, if Meka hadn’t mentioned a mlk/dilla thing in the greg street post, i wouldn’t have sent him the link via e-mail. if i was “hunting for posts”, wouldn’t i have made a big comment with all kinds of links in that post?
and if you think anything i do like this (‘messing around with music’ as you said) is done for ANYONE’s remarks, you’re crazy. if a nigga wants to pay homage in a certain way, so be it. if you don’t like it, fine. my beef isn’t with someone liking or disliking what i’ve done. it’s your immediate assumption that this was some kind of ploy to get hits. if it was, i would’ve gone way farther out to do so.
if i do donate to any charities or post about things that affect me, it’d be done the same way – i’d do a drop and keep it moving. or give whatever monies and keep it moving. if i choose to do a mix like this on my blog, and people fuck with it, there’s no harm in that.
but to each his own, really.
Real music.. Let it speak for itself….
LATE PASS – FYI this is from 2008
shits cool, but still something feels sacrilegious about it
@Khal fuck that imbecile..Good lookz on the post
[...] little bit of fun no matter how delicate the subject, but sometimes these tributes cross the line. I can get behind the Dilla-I Have a Dream mashup, but that’s as far as I go. I mean, Dr. Dre’s “Bitch Please” x MLK speeches [...]

This was dope. No need to explain yourself to a hater khal. You didn’t make a spectacle, but you certainly could have. The best part was as King starts speaking, you get the sample “oh i just fell apart inside, because I hadn’t heard that voice in such a long time.”
Thanks Meka for keeping this post up. Today is a perfect day to revisit this post.
