Because L wasn’t as big a name and only real hip hop heads know and respect Big L; Jay has more to gain biting Biggie’s lines than L’s. It’s as simple as that.

People get mad at Jay for the stupidest reasons
Wow. Really?
I can’t believe how many people fail to understand the term biting. People need to do their research. Biting is theft. Has nobody heard the saying ‘imitation is the highest form of flattery’?
What Jay-Z does is pay homage. He’ll use a line from a great to shine the light on them, to pay respect in a way that shows he was a fan. Real Hip Hop heads understand this. At other times, he’s name-checked poeple he respects (Talib Kweli and G Rap are just two), but using their lines is an inventive way of showing these artists love. If he did it from some Obscure underground cat, and nobody knew the verse, then that can be considered a bite.
And whether you like Hov or not, you have to admit that he’s not short of lines himself. Same goes for Wayne, when he spits a Jay line. Same goes for Game when he spits a Jay line.
Big L and Pun were monsters, but lets b real how many songs does Jay have where he bit lines from, Big, Big L, Snoop, Em and some other stop tryin to justify wuts bitin underground or mainstream takin a line from another artist and usin it in its original format is bitin,and Jay does that a lot

Big Pun had by far the best wordplay, vocab, methapors, punchlines, multies, rhyme schemes and everything all combined in history. He was just overall the best lyricist to ever live. Every line he said was a K.O-punch. Every word he spit he lived it and he made it come to life but just sticking it to ur ribs. And the way he flowed, spit and delivered his shit is just so untouchable. He spit so clean and smooth and raw and just overall dope that u just wanna listen more and more. He had the perfect rap voice too, and his flow/delivery overall was just impeccable. He was just a flawless rapper. The songs he put out are the best most classic and most legendary songs ever. They timeless. Capital Punishment is the best album ever made by far. Hes by far the greatest and im not rican saying that. So for all yall suckas saying Big L, Big, Pac or any other bullshit, cmon Pun doesnt get props he deserves cuz he died too early and not the same way Big and Pac and most rappers has died. He died naturally cuz duke had/has no haters. Only fags that would hate on him would prolly not even know shit about real hiphop and be on some Lil Gayne bullshit. Good lord man you just wrote a goddamn thesis on Pun. He was great, but he wasn’t the best. he had terrible breath control. and he wasn’t even big on shit like punchlines. you tryin to give props to PR rappers and thats straight, but give credit where credit is due.
