Right after Raekwon talked with us about OB4CL2, we proceeded with our rubric VINYL CHECK. Obviously we hit the mark with our selection of classic rap records, as Rae kept on telling numerous stories about those good old days. Watch, listen and learn how Raekwon discovered Nas’ Illmatic, which legendary rap duo he and Ghost admired as young kids and what is the story behind the Clarks shoes on the cover of the Ironman LP!

I like Rae’s shit, I’m a fan, but he usually comes off as kind of ignorant in interviews. Also, I think Eric B is from Queens. Either way, he definitely wasn’t “the best DJ”.
Lessons young Rae learned from these albums:
1. Slick Rick let him know that kids should run out and spend their money on clothes.
2. Dre let everybody know weed was cool.
Man … this shit is fucking dope! I havent checked the site in a while, but everything happens for a reason! I really enjoyed this interview! I love how humble Rae comes across acknowledging some of the greatest records. Hopefully the gold edition of OBFCL2 drops soon!

I got the french import of Ironman shortly after it dropped on gatefold. I took it to Wu shows and got it signed by all three of the cats on that cover. It was an incredible debut album for Ghost and I always thought the cover with the piles of wallabees was dope. It’s in a frame in the hallway.
