Fat Joe: The Second Biggest One-Hit Wonder Of The 2000s

fatjoetop

On the other hand of Em being the top-selling artist of the Aughts, Fat Joe was named by Billboard as one of the biggest busts of the decade, as he was unable to replicate the success of “Lean Back” since it reached No. 2 on the Billboard’s Top 100 Hits chart. Oh, don’t worry: MIMS, Jibbs, D4L and a bunch of other funnystyle artists made that list too.

  1. joes always had a solid foundation of a career on a grass level so the one hit wonder thing doesnt look bad for him…..because he already has a an estabished niche and etched a part of hisotry in rap with ditc and terror squad etc…

  2. Crazy Town is a great group you know. Their other stuff isn’t anything like “Butterfly”. “Black Cloud” is the one of the deepest shit you’ll ever hear.

There are talks of a come-back with a pure hip hop album.

  3. “fuck was you thinking nigga, fat stinking nigga, what bitch wanna lay with you” aahahahahaa. gotta give it up to joe though. he had a hand in jigga getting slapped up ooowwwwwww

  4. Fat Joe – The Shit Is Real Premo RMX, Bronx Keeps Creating It, songs with Big Pun and DITC > Lean Back.

  5. Lol @ the list. Just about all the rappers on the list are from the South.

  6. and change that pic from him eating to this, looks stupid and too random..

    http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/32767941/Big+L++Fat+Joe++Canibus.jpg

  7. I dislike Fat Joe’s music as much as anyone here, but he was not called the 2nd biggest one hit wonder… Terror Squad was… yes he is part of Terror Squad but Fat Joe as a solo act was not mentioned as a one hit wonder considering… We Thuggin and Whats Luv were both top 10 hits in 2001, Get it Poppin went top 10 (how? I don’t know), Make it Rain saw top 15 status, I Won’t Tell was top 40 and All I Need and Crush Tonight were both top 100 on Loyalty in 2002… Trust me, Fat Joe doesn’t come close to gettin rotation for me, but you can’t deny he’s had “hits”

  8. Meldawg…

I see what you saying but “all in all ” he is the leader of the terror squad.. That counts as a different act then just the solo” Joe”

So when something like this is said of course he is going to take the heat..just like you mention the other “hits” he had he should have had the power to create some more for the “terror squad”

  9. is there any reliable way to reach SHAKE or MEKA??? I have an important question to ask, would be of great help…

  10. collegecurb

Email address… up top. right hand corner.

  11. how the fuck is cassidy on that list?

  12. terror squad is a 1 hit 1der..not fat joe.. he deserve more respect for being able to stay in the game for so long and he still better than his counter part busta rhymes

  13. Why the fuck would anybody with any love for hip hop allow a publication like Billboard, of all things, tell you that a dude who made his debut in ’88 – the greatest year in hip hop – on a Diamond D album (when he was half of Ultimate Force), who made Jealous Ones Envy, found Big Pun, and made a little ditty with Jada, Nas, Raekwon & Pun called John Blaze, should be deemed a one-hit wonder?

If these idiots actually did their homework, they might remember that What’s Luv reached #2 on their own Pop charts, and that Make It Rain and I Won’t Tell were both top 5 rap singles. Also, Flow Joe was a #1 rap single back in ’93, and that shit was hard.

    Meka…..just….smh

  14. @ Meldawg

    Well said.

  15. This list is stupid. There are a number of artists that make quality music that doesn’t register in the charts. Only someone who knows very little about rap would call Joe a One Hit Wonder in the 2000s. Dude has had a solid career with a number of hits…underground and mainstream. Hell, Make it Rain alone gives him two hits.

There is a crazy amount of hate in rap these days. People clown rappers like Joe and call him wack. The next minute, they are getting mad because the industry isn’t giving their favorite backpack rapper a chance. The backpack rapper would probably get more love of people are always blindly hating.

  16. George Clooney COSIGN.. people just dont know there hip hop history, and im only 20 and I know this shit.. i swear 95% on this blog probably only started listenin to hip hop with 50 cent or lil wayne..

  17. In this pic, the guy sittin next to Joe sayin “Daaaamn, Joey. You the second biggest one hit wonder this decade. You listenin’? HEY! You fat fuck listen. Fuck it. Im gone.”

  18. LMFAOOOOOOOOO!

CLICK MY NAME… CHECK MY SITE OUT PPL!

  19. co-sign ayo.

    bronx keeps creating it >>>>>>>>>>>

  20. wasnt “Make It Rain” not a smash hit

  21. list is stupid for real, why is “The Dream ” there?

  22. Fuck a hit, Cassidy one of the best rappers out.

  23. @ Ayo, Ru, George..

    Billboard said

one of the biggest busts of the DECADE

    Not the past twenty years…..

Im sure they would know what they are talking about considering Billboard has been around since the late 1800′s and officially 1936…

I swear “Hip-hop purist” are THE dumbest people alive…

  24. Hey T, know why you’re retarded? Because Make It Rain (#2 rap single), What’s Luv (#2 Pop single), and I Won’t Tell (#3 Rap) all came out in this decade.

“Im sure they would know what they are talking about considering Billboard has been around since the late 1800’s and officially 1936…”

    Wow….just wow.

  25. jibbs is actually not that bad, but he only dropped 1 cd
mims is aight. Youngbloodz are dope and so is fort minor & cassidy
    the others basically suk

  26. @ George…

So “lean back” and “Make it Rain” where on the same album??? lol

“Lean Back” and “I wont tell” on the same album?? lol

Are all three of them on the same album?? NO

TERROR SQUAD is a different TAX WRITE off than “FAT JOE”

Therefore they qualify as TWO different artist/groups….

Fat Joe is the Leader of terror squad so he TAKES THE L…

    Wow…just wow

Did i just have to explain something so simple????

    wow just wow…

  27. Retarded lol haha…Funnest thing I’ve heard all day….

    Like I said.

“Hip-Hop Purist” are some of THE dumbest people alive…

  28. I’m gonna pray for you tonight, T, and I’m going to ask God if he can give you a brain.

  29. @George Looney

lol Whats wrong? No facts George?

Dont resort to chlidish personal attacks because you clearly dont know what the
    fuck your talking about….

Lets keep this debate healthy and state facts….Im not making any of this up..
You dont believe me?? Go check….

We all know Fat Joe is a “building block of hip hop” but this isnt the name of
the article…Stop getting so emotional because Joey is getting called out for
not helping his crew the “Terror Squad” attain more than one hit but instead
saving all of the hits apparently for himself on 2 different albums….

  30. i like some of fat joe’s music youngbloodz>>>

  31. i had to bump that YoungBloodz – Damn again, used to be the shit back in the day

  32. soulja boy should be on this but “people” like his music somehow still can never figure that out

  33. Artist most likely to make this list in the next decade: Drizzy Fake

  34. i dont even fuck with joe but its not really fair to call him a one hit wonder, dudes been in the game for a while and has had a couple of hits

  35. Rich Boy on list = list is wrong.

  36. @T, you are wrong. The list says terror squad because terror squad is the one hit wonder. Not Fat Joe. As meldawg said, Fat Joe had a bunch of hits. Who cares if he’s the leader of the group. If G-Unit, as a group, only had one hit, you wouldn’t say 50 Cent was a one hit wonder solely because he’s the ‘leader’ of the group.

  37. Too bad it says Terror Squad and NOT Fat Joe.

    Fail.

  38. Fat joe, jada kiss, faboulous , Rick Ross >>> OUT

    Elzhi , Eminem , slaughter house , royce 59 , underground >>> IN

  39. @ P

    1. I think your not reading what I wrote.

    2. I dont think you read the article

    3. 2dopeboyz decided to place Fat Joes picture on the cover of this story for a reason..

If half of you hiphop purist would pay attention maybe you would understand

    FROM BILLBOARD ARTICLE:

TERROR SQUAD , the hip-hop collective LED by FAT JOE, topped the charts in August 2004 with “Lean Back,” giving the world a new dance craze in the process. The Squad fell back hard after that, only reaching as high as No. 62 with a subsequent single: “Take Me Home,” at the end of 2004.

  40. T said:

Fat Joe is the leader of “Terror Squad” so he TAKES THE L…

Can you not comprehend that P?

  41. Some of their list is rather off because a lot of those artists didn’t need huge hits to stay relevant (in their niche fan base) and continue to put out music.

  42. 1. I did read what you wrote, which is why i specifically attacked the fact that you think saying Fat Joe is the second biggest one-hit wonder of the decade is accurate solely because he is the leader of Terror Squad.

    2. I did read the article which is why i said “the list says terror squad.”

    3. Who cares what picture 2dopeboyz put up. Ever heard of bias?

I’m aware of the fact that they are two separate entities which is exactly my point. The collective know as Terror Squad is, according to this list, one of the biggest one-hit wonders of the decade. Fat Joe is not on the list as a single unit and as meldawg says, he is not listed as the second biggest one-hit wonder of the decade like 2dopeboyz has written. All we are saying is that it is misleading (perhaps blatantly false) to say that Fat Joe is the second biggest one-hit wonder.

  43. i wasnt even that much into Lean Back when it came out..
Whats Luv > Lean Back lol

  44. @ P

Well apparently we are on the same side.

Joe is taking the L for this one….because it is his crew…Thats all I was saying…

Everyone else trying to make it seem like it was Joe they were talking about in the article…..I was stating that Joe wasnt who billboard was talking about..

Really trying to quote the RIGHT information because 2DB didnt….

Just like you said : They said “Joe”. and that is false information because of bias.

    100% Truth.

  45. haha Cosign P.

  46. Why is rich boy on this list, the CD was good but overlooked and he hasnt put much else out since, Paper Planes remix and Haterz with B.o.B are both hot.

  47. Joe is no one hit wonder.

But, he owes Pun for his entire career after meeting him. Pun made him relevant again. It’s a shame he stiffed Pun’s kids and wife out of money like that. It’s ridiculous that Joe ever even speaks the word “Loyalty” when he’s the opposite.

  48. Billboard is about statistics, NOT music.

Also, Fat Joe had to pass the mic at The Good Life, so he really ain’t no MC.

  49. Fucka billboards list,i fux with Joey Crack the Long way (no bruno)since 88′

  50. Whatever, whatever with billboard BS….’What’s Luv’ was tha keyill in 01….Jigga didn’t have a #1 song on his “best” LP that year….yes gotti, ja, and ashanti made it a hit…yet n’ still it hit the top as FAT JOE – WHAT’s LUV. feat. whoever….One hit??? Not joey crack.

  51. This whole debate is funny because Fat Joe couldn’t pay for a good look when he was getting his ass put on blast by 50 Cent. but Billboard makes notion to him being a One Hit Wonder and the world finds that unbridled love for the big one…

But this debate has done well in entertainment.
Oh and T, and P, you two are exactly right and probably the most intelligent argument amongst this feed of comments.

Oh and as hot as some of these guys were, even with there underground or behind the scenes following. Some of them have a rightful place on this list.

Rich Boy – He’s poppin… in the south
    Mims – of course
Cassidy – great battle rapper, not at all commercial
the list goes on, but hey, better luck next decade.

  52. This discussion is worthless because Meka’s hating a$$ put Fat Joe instead of Terror Squad. Shake should do a SHAKE UPDATE and correct Meka, just like he has to do so often….smh @ Meka

  53. http://screwheadsonly.blogspot.com

Why do we even argue bout these lists from NON Hip Hop sites/magazines?

  54. Come on shake and meka drop the world leaked already..wheres your guys post..
