A few days ago I expressed my displeasure with the Clipse’s Til the Casket Drops album cover. Later that day my man Vex hit me with an idea to rework album covers that I think could have been done better (or differently). So with that… I’d like to announce the beginning of a new series. Shake’s (2)Dope Alternative Artwork. I’m not gonna put a certain day restriction on it or anything. I’ll just do them as I see fit. Something looks shitty, I’ll make it better. Or maybe I just had a different vision for it. Who knows… the point of it all is to make your iPod/Zune’s happy (and plug ArtByShake.com of course) haha. You should do Macklemore’s unplanned Mixtape. His album cover was dope, but his mixtape cover (even though it’s just a mixtape) is kinda wack. Even though the music is dope.

howeverrr…this album already sounds a little more light hearted than hell hath no fury. maybe the kaws artwork works? at the same time, i respect the man’s art, but that album cover looks like they gave him a $100 and he went to town using the line function of microsoft paint.

Looks like a Tech N9ne cover more than the clips. Visually its better, but even the the real cover is wack it fits them more.

i liked that version. but it wasn’t the official artwork. it was just an advertisement. my gripe is with KAWS pink and orange cover that i linked to above.
and for everyone… i didn’t feel like including the clipse logo. it’s not like this is being put in stores. its just an alternative cover for folks to use that didnt like the other one. thats all. enjoy it or dont. i appreciate all comments.

I like it, but if there was someway to get their name on there,(not saying you should necessarily put up the logo), just something simple to designate the artists themselves within the cover.

Agreed that this desnt suit the Clipse at all. Reminds me more of Jedi Mind Tricks last album.
I like the original, from a marketing point of view it pops more, I would notice this cover way faster than the alternative. And plus it fits them they had Kaws do it which is appropriate due to the fact that he is big in the streetwear world and THE CLIPSE have a clothing brand aim towards the streetwear market called PLAY CLOTHS. The typography is just right, THEY KNOW WHAT THEY”RE DOING.

Whats wrong with the cover art? I like it. And yours isn’t exactly that great. I find it terrible actually. It’s too dark and grimy, thats not what the Clipse were going for. Like something straight out of a horror movie. This is an album about good times, not about depressed and repressed psychotic times.
I’m going to agree with “dat nigga”, it pops more and would be more noticeable at the music store. Its has a more inviting feeling. From a marketing standpoint, the original is better as it will attract more attention and people will be more intrigued by it. With yours, people will ignore it, not even give it a glance.

Solid cover, Shake. I also agree with the prevailing points that a) adding the new Clipse logo would have made it even better and b) the musical direction of the album seems to be less bleak, in relation to the style of the alternative cover.

yeah shake i def dig your take on the cover. I think a lot depends on the album. If it is a little more upbeat production, i take theirs. if it is a dark album, i go with yours. You do got a nice talent for the art stuff. I say keep on doing this, its interesting for a nice debate

I liked Shake’s better, I didn’t like how the original looked at all. But at the same time, I understand peoples’ comments about the original matching Clipse’s fun, care-free feel with this album

i do agree with those saying that kaws work is better for marketing and its more eye catching. which is cool, because thats whats being used to sell the album. the version i did, was not. and i didnt design it as a replacement. its an ALTERNATIVE cover. so if you like it, you can use it on your ipod or zune or whatever.

Shake your cover is cool, but you’re missing the idea behind this album. It isn’t some dark, nostalgic album like Hell Hath No Fury. This album is a loud, joyous, celebration album. Your cover doesn’t fit any of the songs.

The Kaws one is better, this looks like it’s for punk rock etc. It needs to have more relevance to the criteria and genre of the music featured within the album too. The text is sick though.
