Bobbito On Latino In America (Video)

Renowned radio personality Bobbito says it’s perfectly fine for Latinos to borrow from African-American culture.

I don’t know how to feel about that quote (and I know news channels pull that “controversial” bullshit for attention), but seeing as how every other culture publicly loathes Afro-Americans but swacks their culture (I see you “streetwear” companies) I can’t really say shit. Plus, I respect Bobbito and his contributions to hip hop, and his explanation makes much more sense than that dumb ass “headline.”

  1. news headlines are always misleading

  2. Being Puerto Rican, I know hispanics are mixed people. Our food is a product of mixed cultures as well. Why do you think we have straight hair, curly hair, nappy hair, black skin, white skin, brown skin. My ancestors were murdered and raped as well as the murderers and rapists. We are the product of Europeans (Spain), African slaves, and Native Americans.

  3. I feel you on the street wear comment. Asians and White guys run these street wear companies. I just hope they love the culture.

  4. bobbito’s in my hip-hop hall of fame! that was some weird zoom action at the end of the clip.

  5. im asian and love hip hop.
does that mean im trying to be black?
i despise people that think im trying to be what im not
and your sentiment, meka, contributes to the bullshit
street culture is not african american culture

  6. @Quam

its cool for you to love hip hop but when its time for the lines to be divided you sure as hell aint gone stand with black people, you gone be right along side the other asians. The point Meka was trying to make is its easy for other ethnicities to love our cultures cuz they don’t have to “live” it 24/7 365. Its kind of annoying when you have a lot of ethnicities that imitate black culture but everytime they open their mouths they shouting out there race.

  7. well i just hope that black people realize that they borrow shit from other cultures to. lets not make this a one sided street like black ppl always seem to make it.

  8. race should be a non factor in hip hop
those representing the belief that it is to this day exclusively black culture seem to judge by a double standard
if darrion albert were white would anyone care?
no where near as much because he was black, and that is not right

  9. When people call it street culture instead of hip hop, what they’re really trying to do is to negate the African-American invention of hip hop so they don’t have to feel guilty about co-opting black culture while secretly hating black people. If you know ANYTHING about the history of hip hop, you understand that it was started by African-Americans. Today hip-hop has a global presence and is supported by all races, but let’s not deny its roots in African-American culture!
