After seeing the first stop of Jay-Z’s tour at Penn State on Friday, I drove back to Morgantown, WV and made it in time to see Lupe perform at an underpromoted fraternity Step competition Sprite was sponsoring on campus. Here’s a video I took on my iPhone of Lupe performing his new joint “Fire”; he gives a minute-long intro explaining the track and what it has to do with MTV’s recently released 2009 Hottest MCs List. I believe this is the first time he’s performed the track. – WDIR

lu one of my favorite MCs of all time and i know he aint gotta prove shit with all the music he’s dropped… but i dnt get why he even has anything to say about the list. he said it himself, he hasnt put out work in the last 2 years.
i know that dude’s always on the road cuz he loves performin, and hes “workin” on Lasers, but it wouldnt hurt to drop a couple gems every now and again for his fans (like a studio version of run this town lol). i ran through damn near all his mixtapes and albums and unreleased shit, and it’d be nice to hear some new material

He kind of fucked himself up when he said he was done with the mixtapes. So if he’s not gonna drop mixtapes and have a year or two between albums then he needs to just be dropping a track or two a month to remain in the public eye and relevant to people that don’t dig as hard for music.

I’m so glad that, even if it’s not necessarily because the MTV List, that because of his absence from it, he’s been inspired to start killing the game again. I agree…he should hit us with some more mixtapes. 2006 was the greatest time in hip hop for me when I discovered Lupe’s music and mixtapes. It made me really think about lyricism MUCH deeper.

Damn, that Army Girl has some bass to it on the hook. I felt my ear drums hurting from these ear buds. I had to turn the volume down a notch and it still didn’t help hahahaha. I know it wasn’t the stage cause the bass went down some on the verses. Oh, I guess another single is coming cause dude got another hair cut lol.

@ Timbo, I was there when Lupe fell off stage. It was crazy because he got right baack up and performed Kick Push, but dude was on the ground for like 10 minutes.

I was in Chicago in June of 2007 for “Taking It To The Streets” when I was chilling with Toki Wright and Brother Ali and Lupe fell off the stage there too. It was injured a little more than that fall he did recently I think a woman was injured too, and then she tried to sue Lupe later. #FAIL.
