Joell Ortiz – B96 Freestyle (Video)

With the beat on repeat and 15 minutes to write their verses Royce went first, Crook went second and now it’s Joell’s turn. Who ripped the Khalil beat the most? After Joell goes in, the group talks about Slaughterhouse in a different light than most interviews. And hit the jump to check Crooked I’s thoughts on Street Hop (October 20th) and the group discussing the politics of this hip hop shit.

  1. i think joell had the best verse outta the 3 but they all went in

  2. it’s between crooked & joell, royce was weak

  3. he was reading off a dam piece of paper.. i feel slaughterhouse but he needs 2 upgrade 2 a blackberry if he’s reading something & it being passed off as a freestyle..

  4. at blink they all were readin off paper. they wrote the verses there. they didnt have them written already. y u think parker said somethin like that 10 min of work? cuz he wrote it in 10 min. royce and crook was 15 min i think

  5. oh, my bad. didn’t see the crooked and royce verses. i just assume when it’s considered a free it’s either gonna be off the top or memorized, not written & read on the spot, or off a cell. guess times are changing, nice spit tho! would like an mp3 with all 3 verses on it.

  6. ^^times have BEEN changed. and the talk about “YOOOO thats not a freestyle” isnt gonna change anything. your complaining to a brick wall.

  7. fire all of em but i think joell got it best…anyway thanks for the clip

  8. well, when it comes 2 actually freestyling at least a few artists have stuck to their roots like KRS.. plus, nowadays i think it isn’t the actual artist that go into claiming it as a freestyle, they just go 2 spit off the top or not but the radio stations, t.v shows, etc. pass ‘em off as freestyles which the artist probably doesn’t have a problem with as it will look good for them if they did well lyrically. and as far as calling it complaining shake, that doesn’t change the sour taste in my mouth when artists do pass writtens of as free’s, and you’re right, what am I gonna do about it?

  9. who cares if it was written, it was dope

  10. There’s a couple different interpretations and/or definitions of what a ‘freestyle’ is, but I think/hope most people consider it rapping off the dome.

  11. alrite.
    1)Crooked I
    2)Joell
    3)Royce
but they all killed that shit.

  12. royce top spot, then crooked, then joell. I just don’t think they’re touching royce’s flow

  13. there interviews are always entertaining

  14. this is the great thing about slaughterhouse. on any given track 4 different people can say that 4 diff artist had the best verse and u honestly cant be mad at the other person cuz they all go in all the time

  15. 1) Royce EASY
    2) Joell
    3) Crooked he kinda let me down cuz i always expect him to kill it but in 15 minutes its a pretty dope verse

  16. joell murdered that

  17. 1. Crooked (I swear he crushed it from the first to last bar)
    2. Joell (some of the sickest lines)
    3. Royce (flow was phenomenal)

all 3 of em murdered it

  18. Can anyone say Yeeeaaoooah! The lyrical butcher known as Mr. Ortiz from Brooklyn takes a moment to show the world what he is really made of…..And the result, boys and girls is 250pounds of pure slaughterhouse slander. what a verbal attack. If I had to choose a comrade to go into a freestyle battle with, you can bet dollars to donuts that I would select this 1 quarter of the slaughter….house click
Joell goes in on this one….But then again what else is new….I aint tellin you nothing you never heard before……

    ….u be the judge!

  19. robbie….*sigh* lay off the sugar….
    ps….YAOWA

  20. is it me or does joell have the best analogies ever? hahaha

  21. Joell stays murderin it…

  22. 1. Royce
    1. Joell
    1. Crooked

That shit is impossible for me to call. Aparrantly they write all their songs quickly, but for all three to come out with rhymes that good in just 15 minutes is amazing.
Just as an afterthought, I wonder what Budden’s 15 min written would have been like…

  23. Anyone miss Joe Budden? Didn’t think so

  24. suprised no one said anything bout those hoodies, anyone know where i can get me one those things are nice.

  25. cosign^^^
    i want one too…

  26. @ b

    lol hell yeah

  27. [...] say it, but I have a feeling this lyrical exercise was inspired by the Slaughterhouse machine as Joell, Royce & Crook were each given 15 minutes to do the same thing while on B96 w/ Mr Peter Parker. [...]
