Governor David Paterson x Jay-Z

New York’s Governor, David Paterson expresses his thoughts of MTV’s Hottest MC in the Game.

“Jay-Z is not only an outstanding hip-hop artist, but a dedicated philanthropist as well,” Paterson said in a statement. “Having just attended his September 11th benefit concert in Madison Square Garden a few weeks ago, I can personally attest to his commitment to New York and the impact he has on New Yorkers of all ages. He is most definitely deserving of the top MC of 2009 title.”

A few weeks ago, before the Hottest list came out, Paterson gave his personal criteria for what he thought made a hot MC.

“I think these days, since hip-hop is now nearly 30 years old, that it’s the creativity,” he said. “There are too many people who think you become successful by mimicking what others have done, and I think every performer starts out with a favorite, but it’s those people who blaze new trails that I think are the MCs of the future.

“I also think that the MC that figures out that people 18 and older who got the right to vote in 1972 never exercised it till 2008 — there’s a real culture for discussing how our government works and how our society works,” he added. “The MC who could blaze that trail and find a creative way of displaying it will be the MC of the next decade.”

  1. Fuck that list. Jay deserved #2 on some real shit.

  2. ^^and who deserved to be no.1?

  3. HOV has the top spot with or without MTV’s stamp so it doesn’t matter anyways…

  4. Clearly Em takes #1 but yet MTV fails to realize what he has accomplished since April this year after being away for 4 1/2 years. A little over a month to promote Relapse and it still is the best selling album this year including not even touring and selling like it did as well as making up for Encore in the process. Em is sober which I applaud him for. Em has Relapse 2 coming which makes 2 most anticipated albums in 1 year which also looks to be another 1 month promoting job cause it’s slated for a Novemeber release. Em won awards. Em outshined 2-4 on this list on the same song. If Jay had Em feature on BP3 then Em would have taken out 1-4. I can keep going. Also, how the fuck did Kanye make the MC list when he sold out to autotune and made 808s but yet Em didn’t make the list??? Also, how the fuck did Wayne make the list when he’s selling out to autotune as well trying to release a rock album but yet Em didn’t make the list??? List is garbage beyond recognition.

  5. ye made the list for beasting on any and every guest appearance he got on imo. some of his best verses came from 2009. i agree with wayne needing to be lower and eminem being in the top 3 but hov deserved that spot.
