Royce Da 5’9″ on Slaughterhouse x Shady Records Rumors (Video)

I tried to tell ya’ll what was going on earlier but couldn’t exactly let any cats out the bag. Now in a recent interview with MTV News, Royce speaks on the rumors of Slaughterhouse going the Shady Records way.

“It’s very much what it looks like,” Royce said of Slaughterhouse joining forces with Eminem. “That’s always a possibility. It’s conversations being had, very good conversations. I just did an interview recently and they asked me to a address the rumors. I said, ‘Rumors are what they are, people see things and they jump to a conclusion.’ I never said it wasn’t going to happen — I left it right there in the middle. I think it would be a great thing if it could happen.”

I’ve been talking to Em and Paul for a long time,” Royce added. “With this particular situation, things are falling into place. Everything is in place where it’s supposed to be. I’m very prepared [for] when the opportunity presented itself. It’s a time where there’s things they need over here and certain things we need in order to move over there. I think it’s a good marriage. Like I said, I just hope it can happen.”

I’m all for Dr. Dre produced Slaughterhouse joints or Slaughterhouse x Eminem collaborations but I don’t think Shady is the answer. I mean… who have they successfully pushed in the past few years? Hell, who have they even attempted to push? Stat Quo? Nope. Bobby Creekwater? Obie? Cashis? Nope. So if this deal actually goes down, I hope it’s for the best.

  1. i completely agree with shake on that. couldnt have said it any better. Yha-Wah!!!!!

  2. if they go to shady there will never be another slaughterhouse album, they should keep it strictly affiliations man…don’t touch anything shady, aftermath, or interscope related…some em x slaughterhouse would be hard though

  3. obie was a success tho. hopefully the thought of this doesnt turn out to be the closest we get.

  4. ^^that was years ago though (obie)

  5. I think Interscope will understand that with Eminem backing Slaughterhouse that they will do good numbers based on the numbers they pushed on koch.

  6. Why did Obie get dropped again? He was incredibly good and he moved units. When is Bottoms Up coming out?

  7. not a good idea at all. nothing good will come of this. they should just split ways after the tour is over.

  8. I dont know shake. I definitely see where you are coming from. But when shady records does use its muscle the release always benefits. Obies 1st album was a succes. Obies 2nd album didnt get what it deserved because of the 1st single. A lot of music outlets refused to play it because of its content. And of course there was 50. 50 brought his own energy into the situation. and look what happened there. Of course slaughterhouse isnt as big as 50 was then. But they are bringing their own buzz to this situation. If played right, this could work. These are all artist ( slaughterhouse ) who arent going to sit around and wait for a label. and I think thats what it takes to succeed. YOu have to do your own leg work AND have that machine behind you. In todays climate it doesn’t work with just one.

  9. Damn, I’d love me some new Em x Slaughterhouse.

  10. I knew it eva since that Forever cameo I wonder how Joell feel about it

  11. Why do the most popular rappers have label with artist that don’t get to see albums drop or are pushed. See Young Money and Shady records. There are always exceptions to this rule however. See Drake.

  12. Look at it this way fools…the artists you mentioned were brand new artists they were trying to get started. Stat, obie, cashis, bobby creekwater….slaughterhouse already has recognition as being super dope….it would be the same if shady tried to put an album out with slaughterhouse. They are already solid. statobiecashisbobbycreekwater were brand new. Thats why they couldn’t decide whether to financially back them artists. It wouldn’t be a problem with Slaughterhouse. Look outside the box guys.

  13. Assuming they do sign and get the attention they need from Shady (big if’s), I’m cringing at the thought of a SH album with Eminem beats. The dude has made some great beats on occasion, but far more duds. If it happens, Em can rhyme with them as much as he wants, but no beats.

  14. I’m glad the Royce is taking the quiet route this time instead of the last time he had anything shady/aftermath related. I hope SH gets signed

  15. Tbh, a Slaughterhouse x Em diss track towards Benzino would personally make my day if that ever happened. Just saying..

  16. ^^i REALLY hope they dont waste a collab on that geezer.

  17. Well, who’s to say they won’t collab more than once?

  18. DOPE SHIRT…anybody know the last name on there under black milk??????????

  19. Obie albums were dope but they were commercial failures. He’s the reason cited as to why Interscope investors didn’t want to invest in future artists such as Cashis or Bobby Creekwater. Additionally, while Eminem battled his depression and drug addictions it made it even harder for Shady/Aftermath artist to get proper shine. Everyone knows with the rare exception you need an established artist to introduce a relative unknown (dr.dre – Eminem; Eminem – 50 cent; lil wayne – drake; kanye west – kid cudi). Next to Dr.Dre releasing an album Eminem was the foundation of Shady/Aftermath. It’s no coincidence that no new artist have broken through from Aftermath/Shady.

As long as Slaughterhouse manages to secure a contractual release date for an album or something akin to that (they’re allowed to leave with material recorded) it would be a great opportunity for both sides. After all the 4 MC’s have enough pen power to ghost write for any artist (say Dr.Dre) on the labels.

  20. ^ i’m guessing it says Guilty.

  21. i’m with u shake, said the same exact thing last week.

em’s a good dude but he doesnt put forth the time for any of his artists like he does himself..hell he doesnt even do it for himself, interscope does it

  22. 50 was a joint effort w/ Dre so something was bound to happen with that. D12 featured Em so that was bound to have some shine. Obie came fresh off 50′s heels and that’s what got him some showtime cuz ppl figured he could be another hit, and he was, just lacked mainstream appeal.

if they do sign, i hope the go for a 1 or 2 album deal and just be done.

  23. Don’t go to fuckin Shady or anything else that Interscope touches for that matter. Them muthafuckaz ain’t puttin NOBODY out except for Em, 50, and Dre(if whenever he man’s the fuck up and stop being so fuckin insecure with his music)

I got a feeling Priority will be most definately looking for new artists in 2010 to distribute…Priority has always been one for flooding the Game with hardcore/alternative Hip Hop on a Major Scene. Royce Should definately check them out first

  24. And, people that say Eminem didn’t support his own artist need to recheck some history. He put on 50 Cent, D12, and Obie Trice. Hell, he even started to put on Stat Quo, Cashis, and Bobby Creekwater – has everyone forgot about the Re-Up? Everything went way side with his addiction and the death of Proof which just furthered his already fucked up state.

  26. Shady Records was more like a platform for Stat Quo,Bobby Creekwater, & Cashis. Dont think i’d know there names without Shady

  27. bleh! they’ll go all mainstream and stop producing good stuff. i’m telling ya! i’m all in for a collab joint with eminem but i’m not really all that excited about this big jump they’re taking.

i bet all these ‘conversations’ are about how to tailor them (Slaughterhouse) for mainstream appeal. smh.

  28. 50 took all the shine away from Obie’s Cheers… Second Rounds On Me (btw both albums were dope) was released in 06 a time when Em wasnt putting out new (good) music, dealing with addiction, rehab & the death of Proof.. The Re-Up didnt have proper promo which failed to introduce Shady artits.. By then 50 became his own brand and Interscope hindered the future of Obie, Stat, Bobby & Cashis so they decided to leave (didnt get dropped).. i mean give the dude a break.. goin almost 8 years straight is hard work… Em can only do so much.. you gotta pull ur weight too & i think thats where Slaughterhouse will be diff…….

    very good point

  31. Nah Shake, you’re wrong. Em signs dudes and when he loses interest, he doesn’t release em. Obie released 2 classics, and so has D12. Cashis released 1, it failed… and so Eminem didn’t care for the other ones? Possibly due to the failure?

He needs someone who’s as lyrical as him, or used to working at his pace. Em and Royce have a good experience working with each other [||] (Bad meets Evil) and whatnot, Slaughter + Shady would be great, as it would be the most lyrical shit ever..

Bobby left, Stat left, Obie left… we need Cashis to leave and Shady will be this:

    Eminem
    Slaughter House
50 Cent (some people will sigh, lol)
    D12 (don’t forget!)
Slim Da Mobster (or else just kick him out, his buss is… meh, he doesn’t even have a damn buzz, why is he on Shady?)

Just saying… Shady can offer them the budget to blow them up, for PROPER tours (Eminem is famed for Up in Smoke Tour, Anger Management Tour Series, NYC Performances and etc).
More access to the commercial industry, more adverts will be out and that will help more people recognize Slaughter House and fall in love with true hip hop.

  32. I could be wrong but I think Em sees another D12 in Slaughterhouse

  33. wtf is up wit the commercial b4 the clip?

  34. ” I’m cringing at the thought of a SH album with Eminem beats. The dude has made some great beats on occasion, but far more duds. If it happens, Em can rhyme with them as much as he wants, but no beats.”

I thought the same thing, then I started listening to the original version of Renegade. If Em can keep making beats like those, then I have no complaints but if it’s on some Peep Show shit, then yea, that a no-no.

But I fully agree with Shake on the issue. Interscope as a whole is just faulty not just Shady/Aftermath.

  35. I dont think these guys will be much better off with Shady records behind them, they have no mainstream appeal, nobody wants to hear four guys talk about how lyrical they are for a whole album

  36. where can i get a shirt like the one Royce has on?

  37. ems made some sick beats… paitently waiting, welcome to d-block, welcome to detroit, till i collapse, renegade, the cross (by nas), moment of clarity (jay-z)… plus slaughterhouse with some dre beats would b sick

  38. isn’t this a backwards move for joell ortiz???

  39. Eminem and Paul are Smart Business men. When they signed the likes of Stat Quo, Cashis, Bobby Creekwater, the music business was much different.Launching a career is something that takes more time and effort today then it did years ago. Slaughterhouse is a proven commodity already, and adding them to the stable would only benefit all involved. I think Royce inspires Em, Em inspires Royce, and as the two have grown up and realized the business, coming back together in some sort of way will be something positive for all, including us, the fans.

  40. Shake already put into words my exact thoughts on this matter, so I’ll just co-sign what he said. Interscope has a horrible track record, and it would be a death sentence to Slaughterhouse. Also @ trouble maker, it most certainly would be a backwards move for Joell.

  41. soo detox is gonna finally come out and i believe it will be sick em and slaughterhouse ghostwriting

  42. I feel that if this is positioned right, this can be a very successful venture for all parties involved. They need the Interscope engine behind it to really make it work. Em and Dre are not too good and pushing their own artists. That can also be said of the artists themselves not wanting to do what’s needed to be successful (look at all the people the Roc signed as well. A bunch of “Where are they now’s?)

That’s not the case with Slaughterhouse though. These are 4 emcees that know how to grind and put in the necessary leg work to get their name out there. So, couple that with the Eminem brand, and the prospective of some Dre, Em, 50 & SH collabos, this will sell on it’s own. They just have to stay as viral as possible.

  43. This would be the savior of hip-hop. If you beg to differ I bet you also jam gucci mane and lil waynes hot fire autotune!!

  44. It is in reality a great and helpful piece of info. I’m glad that you simply shared this useful info with us. Please stay us up to date like this. Thank you for sharing.
