Sweeeettt!! (a la Jay-Z)
sounds like a shitty tour… what happened to kanye/mos def/talib/consequence/dilated people/slum village callabos
http://screwheadsonly.blogspot.com
I thought they canceled this. Not goin anyway so …..
what was the point of that?
Um….what happened is that is 2009. Why do people want artists to stay the same and never evolve? SMH.
This tour should be crazy dope. Why? Cuz is Kanye and Lady Gaga. I don’t even like Lady Gaga, but I know they are going to put on an “EXPERIENCE” and not just a concert (like most artists, especially dry hip hop artists nowadays)
Rap is becoming more of a dime-a-dozen as we know it. Artists are going to have to start realizing that that all the elements, including visual and creative, innovative concerts and marketing are going to have to become the norm for you to stay relevant in a world of A.D.D and a saturation of artists.
You gotta stand out.
uhhhhh you can really listen to dropout and 808′s back to back and call that EVOLVING? i’m sorry, thats devolution… and please there’s nothing cool about doing a concert with that no talent having hermaphrodite. kanye stands out enough on his lyricism.
if this is what 2009 is about, get me a motherfucking time machine.
Kanye is the new wayne… im slowly giving up on him
See…I can never try and make an intelligent rebuttal on here, cuz people chime back with ignorant comments influenced by their personal bias or whatever society thinks is cool. Who cares if Lady Gaga is a hermaphrodite? Are you hitting that? Well then…why does that even matter?
808s and Heartbreak seemed to really flaw people’s perception, as if they forgot ALL about The College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation. SMH. Kanye was…and as a matter of fact, aside from Jay-Z right now, still one of the best rappers of our generation. He’s stayed consistent on some of his newer guest verses. 808s was ONE project. ONE conceptual project that spawned from some tragedies in his life. That happens to the best of great artists in our history. They go through something and they sort of start acting weird…but eventually they get back on track (See both COMMON and ANDRE 3000 after dating Erykah Badu).
If anything, this latest Kanye outburst on Taylor Swift is more like the old Kanye is back than the newer Kanye. He’s back on that ruthless, “I don’t give a f*ck” mentality, and that has created some great albums for him in the past.
And just frankly, let’s get real here. As much as I really dig and rock with some of these DOPE hip hop artists, their draw is not all that. Lady Gaga and Kanye could fill up a stadium. Kanye and some other rapper might not be able to.
Frankly, KANYE himself might can fill up a stadium…so I see this tour with Gaga as just both of them trying to introduce their own fans to each other, to ultimately gain more fans in the long run and crossover. Kanye is all about evolution of music, because he wants to do a lot of genre crossovers. I think that’s the future of music, hip hop especially. We’ve almost done all we can do in HIP HOP by itself. Now it’s time to evolve if it wants to continue to be one of the driving forces in music relevancy.
^ relevant.
nevermind me saying she(?) has no talent. i could really care less who can fill up a stadium, i’m not promoting this event. i care about people making quality music, and lady gaga is NOT doing that. i’d rather not see hip hop “crossover” into the gimmick that lady gaga is. MY opinion.
you have this urgency to change the status quo, without regard as to what it turns into. sure, it can sell more music and be “relevant,” frankly that’s not what i care about. i’m only for “evolving” styles if it truly is evolving.
and by the way, an artist should be judged on albums, not features. even going past 808′s graduation was NOT an evolution from late registration.
It’ll be interesting to see what these two come up with. Kanye brings to the table what a lot of todays rapers don’t have…showmanship. He knows how to present a song you’ve heard over and over on the radio in a whole new way. I don’t own any Lady Gaga music but a lot of people don’t recognize how talented she is as a musician so this is a good teaming.
how does it benefit hip hop as a culture to have lady gaga’s fanbase included into our fanbase aside from the money to be made?
^
It shows hip-hop can be more then just one type of thing. Nobody says you have to like Ye’s new direction but variety is good, not everybody needs to be an ex-drug dealer with tons of street cred hip-hop can be so much more then the box most people put it in.
hip hop has already shown to be much more than that. my opinion is that this kind of variety (lady gaga) does nothing but water down hip hop instead of enhance it.
hip hop has never been reluctant to be versatile starting with run dmc and aerosmith, to nelly and tim mcgraw, leading up to jayz/linkin park, and even kanye himself with the daft punk element. i’m not opposed to any of that. but lady gaga? c’mon. not everything works
Look at the discussion generated from that little clip…
Well done Mr. Marketing!!!
^^
true that even though i havnt liked any lady gaga songs i can tell she has singing ability and potential to make a good song. kayne and lady gaga can make this work just dont make it wack. good music is good music from underground to mainstream.
the people arguing me have completely disregarded TALENT in favor of diversification. i cant fox with that. knaye’s in my top five producers of all time, and definitely in my top five artists currently, that doesnt mean i have to like his direction.
i mean either she has ggod singing ability or she has the best engineers in the world behind the boards tweaking the shit out of her vocals
and i’m well aware as common said “it aint 94 joe we cant go back” but we shouldnt all be sheep and assume something’s good just because its successful
^^ i’m gonna go with engineers…
i’m gonna close out on another quote.
RAP IS NOT POP, IF YOU CALL IT THAT, THEN STOP.
… and for god’s sake if you want to see hip hop go in another direction the right way go out and buy kamaal the abstract.
^ Not saying that that was a bad album, but Q-Tip shoulda just stuck to rappin on that stuff.
^
Why, if artist don’t have artist freedom then what’s the point off all this shit.
Pop is not a bad thing. Once people (and hip hop purists) start realizing that, you’ll understand where music is going. We just lost Michael Jackson, who was the KING OF POP. So I never understood where this Hip Hop becoming POPular became a problem. People are just afraid.
Hip Hop becoming more mainstream has had it’s pitfalls, BUT, if you look at it in perspective, it’s helped hip hop more than it’s hurt it. It’s helped it become like the #1 Genre of Music period right now in my opinion. Like you said Common said, it’s not ’94 anymore. People gotta move with the time. That was 14-15 years ago.
For the record, I’m really not a huge fan of Gaga. I like her more being sampled (See Kid Cudi’s MAKE HER SAY) or featured (See Wale’s CHILLIN), but at the VMAs, even though I thought all those outfits and blood and stuff was RETARDED, I saw she’s actually very talented in her element, even playing the piano, singing good live and having that entire dramatic element to her craft. In her genre, the same creative driving forces that are in Kanye (PAUSE) are the same in her (Maybe a PAUSE?) for her music styles and performance.
And even though as a Kanye fan who could prefer College Dropout and Late Registration over Graduation…u can’t say Graduation was NOT evolution. That’s exactly what it was. It helped Kanye lock down the entire UK, elevating to the more dance-oriented, techno sound. It may have not being evolution according to mine or your taste of hip hop music, but as a whole for Kanye, buzz-wise, popularity, musically and monetarily, it certainly was. That’s what’s separates him from just being a rapper and being an INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR. Not to compare him to Michael Jackson in fear of people screaming blasphemy, but one of Michael’s biggest things is that he did DIFFERENT styles of music. He crossed over and became universal. That’s why so many people loved him. The nerdiest of nerds of the hardest (PAUSE) of thug cats all rocked with Michael Jackson, because he was across the board. Think about that.
*and the hardest of
theres nothing wrong with going pop as long as its dope problem with hip hop is artists comprimise music for dollars. thats what i have a problem with. most of the shit mainstream is not creative its stale as shit and on the flipside you have ppl not on the radio who are pushing and progressing hip hop way more than these poster artists for hip hop on a worldwide level.
To all the closed minded ignorants.

Her songs might suck but her acoustic shit is nice, and she does have a good voice.
poke her face
Mike Dreams dropped knowledge on that kid yup. Hope he was listening.
knowledge my ass lol… throw MJ into a convo and think its a checkmate, you didnt see MJ trying to rap so he could “diversify”… and please, i could really care less what kanye’s worldwide appeal is, i care about the music he makes. one goes up and the other one has gone down.
mike dreams and his supporters are essentially equating SALES and POPULARITY with WORTH… that is exactly what is wrong with hip hop culture. you guys may be fine with watering it down in favor of sales, i personally value hip hop more than that. you name me one instance where pop has been good for hip hop MUSIC, not for appeal or whatever other arbitrary value you want to attach to it.
SALES DOES NOT EQUAL WORTH. so what if kanye is huge in the UK. i care why?…. and ps lady gaga ruined chillin 8-)
dropped knowledge on yup. you guys are ridiculous
gaga has a phatty dumper
so which show would you rather go and see?
Kanye x Lady Gaga or Jay-Z x N.E.R.D x WALE x J.COLE?
Jay-Z and friends > Kanye x Lady Gag on a dick
SMH @ Kanye for going on tour with such a tool in the industry.
THANK YOU!! ^^^^

I hope this will just mean that Kanye will get in the studio and work on a quality classic album and maybe take us back to the College Dropout days and go on a Tour with like Mos Def and some of his G.O.O.D Music signees like Cudi, Big Sean and Consequence (Who should have his new album coming out soon).
