T-Pain had a hissy fit about Hov this weekend while he was in Shake’s city (Las Vegas) at Rehab. Which is funny to me, because last I remember… he was on stage with Jay at the BET Awards as D.O.A. was performed. But now, he’s cool and wants him dead? Come on now…
Lil’ video I shot from work at REHAB Labor Day Weekend ’09. Jay Z diss by T Pain during his performance, I started recording right after T-Pain says “F**k Jay-Z” & “Jay-Z sucks!” You can clearly hear him say “I think if anything is dead, it should be him.” He goes into a bit of song then continues the rant for a minute then back to more songs.

This should be a random act of fuckery.

I still don’t understand why people use Jay’s age as a diss. I think if anything the fact that dude is older then most cats in the game and still have major pull says alot about him. And I also don’t understand how people say Jay is “soft”. 1. Obviously dude isn’t going to be talking about living a “street life” because he doesn’t live that life anymore. 2. I think it shows how much realer he is talking about things that actually go on in his life today not some made up stuff that sounds good on the radio. 3. Did you people not listen to American Gangster?!?!!?!?
What more can I say?

Pain really doesn’t make himself look good here. But if he’s trying to generate hype, I suppose he’s accomplished that…sort of. Just let me pose one question: how many of us would have watched this video if he wasn’t taking a swing at Hova?
Either way, T-pain will never represent the commercial success or lyrical talent that Jay-Z has cultivated.
I lost a lot of respect for someone who I thought has developed some well produced, catchy crossover tracks in T-pain.

T-Pain makes party music and not thought provoking music, and was at the top of the money makers list with Jay. T Pain also made himself into what Nate Dogg was back in the 90′s but on a much larger scale. If anything T Pain’s audience is larger than Jay’s because his music is borderline pop, so not entirely sure what you’re getting at…
RICe said this on September 8th, 2009 at 10:07 am

@ B.L.O eminem is 36 does that make him “OLD”?
Dan said this on September 8th, 2009 at 10:26 am
RICe, with all due respect, to be quite frank, what I’m getting at is that T-Pain is taking jabs at Jay merely to make buzz..just as you can see by the many comments on this thread.
T-pain isn’t borderline pop – he IS pop, spiced with gimmick. You’d never see an musician with the artistic prowess and lyrical abilities of Jay wearing gimmicky “Big Ass Chains” or wearing ridiculous clothing that’s only meant to draw association.
I laughed at your comment that T-Pain’s audience is larger than Jays. Hilarious. Pain’s audience is NOWHERE near as large as Jay’s. Jay is a headliner – his music is listened to by (and purchased by) listeners of multiple generations – and it will continue to be. Just recently, Hova was a guest on Bill Maher – which shows that his appeal isn’t only to the teen and club scenes, but also to adult audiences. Hova is mentioned in association with truly great artists; artists of even multiple genres. Jay is a co-founder of a multi-million dollar record label..Pain was signed by Akon’s label. Pain gets by with gimmicky tracks, usually in which he is assisted by other, more well-known artists.
So to say that Pain is at the top of the money makers list is silly. He may have sold well recently, but still he doesn’t touch Jay’s sales, not to mention his other capitalistic ventures (clothing line, etc.) Hova is also fixed in the spotlight because of his relationship with the female icon Beyonce, which even further solidifies his celebrity.
As for your comment on Nate Dogg – where is he now? What waves has he made? Nate Dogg, like Pain has made a career largely out of teaming up with other, more popular artists (Warren G, Snoop etc.) So I suppose in some sense your comparison is right..years from now, when people get tired of Pain makin’ songs about getting drunk and partying, he’ll be another has been. This isn’t to say Pain doesn’t craft clever and catchy songs, he certainly does. What I’m speaking of is LONGEVITY.
So to answer your question once more, what I’m getting at is that Pain has shown by his “diss,” that he needs your attention. He disses someone like Jay because any response from Jay will help to create more buzz for him.
You’d never see an artist on the level of Jay Z using these tactics. Why? Simply put, he DOESN’T NEED TO.
I repose your own question back to you – so get back at me when you have more intelligent points to make.

Really? First of all T Pain is in the TOP 5 for this year at around 30 million, Being intelligent as you are I’m sure you’re well aware that record sales isn’t the only way artist make money. Add to the fact that it is stupid to compare the career of two people whose music isn’t really in the same genre and there is a ten year gap in years in the music business. Granted Jay is at the point in his career that most radio stations that play a majority of Pop music will play feature cuts, whereas anything that T Pain is associated or his own songs with will get played on just about every station aside from Rock and Country stations. I believe the word I used was AUDIENCE, not fans. Ten year olds will play T Pain music, over Jay’s. You also assume adults don’t listen to fun music, which is false. The comparison to Nate, you obviously missed the point. There was a point where people would listen to a no name artist because Nate was on the hook, and your talk about longevity, is silly too. Every thing comes and goes in stages and “auto-tune” was huge for a ten to fifteen years from the seventies to late eighties, and Pain has basically brought it back and made the standard for its use basically unreachable.
Just so you know I will watch or read anything T Pain says/does because he has a great since of humor, and I happen to live in Vegas. I am not a fan of neither really(never bought an album of either) but I give them their due respect. I will also watch or read anything Jay says/does because of his insight. Apparently your scope is very small, or you are confusing your opinion with fact…BTW Jay didn’t create Roc A Fella by himself, and after his name was large enough he followed the business format of entrepreneurship that Russell Simmons laid forth, just like Diddy, Master P, Eminem,50, and so many other artist have done on a scale of lesser degree. If you want to talk disses Jay took shots at Joe Budden on a BP3 song, and the Game in the Bill Maher interview you seemed to enjoy so much. Now that I understand what you’re trying to say I feel it’s stupid.
RICe said this on September 8th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
While I appreciate your persistence with this, you should read a little more closely, RICe – you’re missing a lot of details – one small bit of minutia being that I said Jay is a CO-FOUNDER of Roc.
I also like how you try to qualify your weak posts by saying “you’re not a fan of either.” Oh, ok. So why are you arguing?
And you think that Jay doesn’t have a similar effect of stirring up attention to a lesser-known artist on a track? Jay has helped to qualify the careers of (at the time smaller) artists like Cam’ron, Kanye, etc. – and continues to do so with new artists (see J. Cole).
Lastly, again, you have still missed my point. My point was NOT that Jay hasn’t engaged in any rap squabbles (and please don’t get me started on this — these “disses” and “feuds” are basically like pro wrestling tactics – usually substanceless moves that rappers use to create hype and such. Only to be taken seriously by gullible hip hop fans and media).
Once again, my point is that PAIN IS SIMPLY NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL AS JAY (NOT MUSICALLY, FINANCIALLY, OR IN TERMS OF CELEBRITY) THEREFORE HIS “DISS” IS CHEAP AND TAWDRY. It would take the most unimaginable fall accompanied by an entire musical rebirth by Pain to accomplish this.
I believe it was you, who tried to call my post out.Can I get a…more intelligent argument? cosign? What do the other people on this board think?
Man, you lose. stop. Please. Go to sleep.
