I guess I can understand where you are coming from. There are tons and tons of people who hate on Jay. The reason he’s top 2 is blatant IMO.
A lot of people I knew were not Jay fans when I first met them, some even hated him…Until I was able to show them and explain half of the shit that would go completely over their heads. Some ( Maybe 2 people) still weren’t Jay fans even after I introduced his shit to them but everyone I know respects him a whole lot, as a rapper and as a business, mannn.
Try listening to Reasonable Doubt while reading every songs lyrics while you listen and maybe that will help, Black Album and Blueprint both are also ‘ridiculous with the flow cousin’.
And if that doesn’t work and your still not feeling him you gotta at least respect dude. I mean, who else you know that dropped an album EVERY year for 8 years…

I got into Jay-Z (pause -_-) like 04-05 and I actually bought The Black Album in 03 which was crazy, downloaded his whole catalog. He’s a great artist granted some of his business tactics can be questioned (ie: artist management) but guy definitely is a great business man. And I like The Blueprint 3 it’s 2Dope in my opinion, so I will support! haha

It’s very cohesive though, but there’s no stand out track like Ice Cream or Verbal Intercourse. Let’s keep it real, Ghostface is the only Wu member that kept it consistent with hot albums. Immobilarity was lack luster. Lex Diamond Story was wack juice. Rae is not the illest rapper around (very very very far from the worst) but if he’s in someone’s top 10 or 5 I won’t disagree.
