Jay-Z & Rhapsody Recreate Album Artwork (Video)

Come every Jay-Z album release is a multi-million dollar marketing campaign. Jay-Z teamed up with Rhapsody this (what’s a Rhapsody?) and it looks like they will be the first (no they won’t) to exclusive bring you his 11th studio LP,The Blueprint 3 on September 1st. They will also be the first (yes they will) to drop 2 exclusive bonus tracks from the album on September 8th. Now this commercial above is pretty creative. Recreating history here.

SHAKE UPDATE
: I finally got around to watching this and it’s (2)dope to get looked past so I had to bring it back (bring it bring it back) to the top!

THEY DONT RAP THEY SPIT THAT REAL BOOM BAP PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE HIP HOP. IF THERE IS ONE ALBUM TO COP THIS YEAR IT IS KNOW THE NAMES BY AMERICAN POETS. BIG TIME FEATURES.

  10. oh, and anyone who says you can’t make good music due to age needs to just hang themselves. foreal. not cosingn the new album, but trick PLEASE.

and everybody who has to SAY that something is real hip hop and call that a general consensus themselves need to jump off a bridge and let the music speak for itself, then let the people decide that. Fake ass hip hop “purists” smh

  11. Man, that shit was incredible..

  12. maybe the bonus songs will be the mgmt or nas ones?

  13. OH MY GOD…DID ANYONE EVER HEAR THE SONG : “DESTRUCTION OVERLOAD’ Featuring Holocaust by the American Poets? Its on the Know The Names album. The track is incredible. The beats are banging. Picture the scene………..

  14. That was a nice look…Props to Rhapsody for the idea…

  15. @American Poets 2099

To bad mouth Jay-Z is fine, but to rag on his work, WOW!

Usually people have credible facts and numbers to stand on when criticizing someone. But, in this instance you have none, ultimately, making your argument/statement an absolute fail!

    Keep this in mind:

He has 10, #1 Albums. Period. Lose yourself!

  16. bf. I am an American. Therefore I am allowed to voice my opinion. This is on of the rights of my country,,,,,,freedom of speech. While my comments and views may differ from yours, you do not have the concern or ability to point and me with your tisk tisk tisk…..I also wonder if you have listened to the last 3 cds by Jahova? Cuz ever since Gift and the Curse,Jay Z has fallen off…tremendously.

Stop allowing these record companies and radio stations dictate what you listen to. This is not what hip hop is about. This is the work of corporate america, the DEVIL.

If you want to get on the isht that I am on, give the “Know Your Names’ album by the American Poets a spin…..big time features on that album too….Nova Kane and Pro The Leader have been on their grind for a few years now, having release a slew of internet albums and mixtapes in the last five years. In 2009, they’re about to unleash the American Poets 2099 movement. But first, they want people to Know The Names…The album is produced by Semantix Tha Sorcera and features American Poets 2099 member The Holocaust, plus Timbo King, C-Rayz Walz, Solomon Childs, NLZ, Makeba Mooncycle & more. This album has been pushed to the side for the last two years and it’s now finally available. . These features really mend well with the American poets.

The American poets are 100% independant, and unlike the majority of rappers these days, pro and Nova will not fall victim to the major label slave trade. They keep it 1000% real. You just need to KNOW THE NAMES and you will succeed in life. Trust me. Trust is what you need. If your looking for some real hip hop to bring it back, I have your cure. Just trust me.

I promise, this is original hip hop. When you listen you get transformed into a hiphop killa. I promise this will not dissappoint.

Oh ya….if your interested, here is a link where you can purchase if you want:

  17. thats fucking sick sick

  18. this video’s great. somebody actually did their job and created a conceptual commercial that connects with hip hop fans. now if only american poets could somehow get banned from comments then all in the world would be right.

  19. Just to give you a taste of the stwet berry of the American Poets 2099…here is a verse by the greatest rapper ever….lets see who knows there hip hop. If you know who it is, I will send a free copy of the Know the Names album to the winner:
    —————————————————————
According to some stories, I am asleep in an underground tomb
Waiting to resume, the scientists is still unsure exactly
How, I will bring about doom, they know that all it takes is a microphone
Torn like the poor old bones of M.C.’s, I scattered throughout the centuries
There is no life on Earth to save you, and your hip hop fall injury
You’d have to be crazy to mess with the tarantula, try and get me, nope
I turn into smoke and go under the door, like Dracula
The werewolf coyote, raining forest, roaming in his mouth is half a dove
Hate on display like burning eleven feet, crossing a day
You wanna rhyme, but that’s enough, in this powerful action packed struggle
It hurts, I burst your large floating bubble
At night, throw dirt in your face with a shovel
And later blast an agrocraft, bombard and bury your crew
In a shocking delius’ of rocks and rubble
Watch soon, late night, the Holocaust cartoon
Can plot, leave you shocked, after a lot noise
They don’t want you to know my dark void
See, I escape the mic like the explosion at the end of Predator
And we sleep upside down in the cave to Lost Boys

Some people are often afraid of being buried alive
A rap Babe Ruth terrorize pictures in his time, I carry you wide
Through the river, get the picture? I’m the pain giver
Hit you with a scripture, I leave you lost
Like back in the middle age, a dark Paris diet winner
The flu virus kill ‘em on a substance, for up to two days
Your sudden death with my tomb blades, my sound crash on rocks like blue waves
You’re trapped in a large wooden house on the hill
In a total war of vampires, until the end still
You’ve been fighting in one, for months
With from in the inside, to windows watered up
In the day, they go away, but at night, they’re all over
One you know, yelling out your name at night colder
They want you to come out, so they can haunt you with a bout
You try to fight them with constructive weapons and bless them
Though at night, they’re finding new ways epic
To send you soon a death message, the house is encrypted
They wanna teach you a lesson, a bloodthirsty unrested method
And when you creep out of the boarded up windows
They are vampire women who show leg with their dresses

Strike anywhere it matches, in hip hop, the God of War, you better practice
Like the apache indian on the ridge, you fought for a hundred years with axes
And hatchets, bionic six, lyrical acrobatics, it’s tragic
You hide away like a kid behind the cactus
I fell in love, with a woman who dance at night with black magic
When a crocodile attacks, it’s almost never predictable
My lyrics, are the spirts of mythical serial killers turned physical
What do you think, I came here to kiss you?
My long feathered tassle tomahawk, throw ‘em, slit splits the moon
Hangs your boomerangs back to Earth, it rips through, your crew
Then you, like tissue, then some one holding the issue
I load my Skeletor revolver pistol
A man, he works all day, and at night, he hung his skin
Peace, why don’t you sit down, friend
In the forest hunted by a bear alone, I climb up a tree
And fall down upon him, with a long thick branch and grim
My pocket knife tied to the end…

  20. That’s one of the sickest concepts i’ve ever seen. And they executed it to perfection

  21. niceee *using Fabolous voice”

  22. dope commercial
    btw……HOLOCAUST-no image

  23. DMC, I told you his verses were hot. No one can touch him. Those verses were actually from one of his older albums…you gotta hear him on know the names.

  24. Damn skeme….u nice. u want the album? send me an email.

  25. @American Poets 2099

The first Jay-Z album I bought was Vol. 2. And although it wasn’t his first, I am still familiar with his change in style since then, so I would have to agree with you on that.

And I will agree that record companies and radio stations are controlling a lot of what people are listening to. Especially today’s younger generation. I am not one of them. Since being in the military I don’t listen to much radio or watch much T.V.

I’m 28 and been listening to music since we was dubbing radio stations on tapes and sharing them. I listen to Jay-Z because he is one of the few artist left around that I grew up on, next to Busta, Diddy, Q-tip, Snoop, Cube, and other various early 90s acts.

With that said, I’m all for promoting upcoming artist and “real” music, but to burn the bridges that helped create these new artist is kind of blasphemous. Don’t you think?

  26. um ….. i’m pretty sure DMC was talkin about the video. sorry to burst your bubble, spammer.

  27. lmao@Chris Campbell

This is really dope. I think American Gangster is my favourite cover. Blueprint 3′s really matches the album.

  28. DOWNLOAD JAY Z NEW ALBUM AT MY BLOG!!

  29. Can we stop this spamming this guy is doing???

  30. Commercial’s fire.

  31. bf, i appreciate your comments and constructive critisims. I was not looking to burn bridges. I am just trying to spread the word of good music. Thats all. I was not trying to piss anyone off. I am sorry if I did. I thought I was helping everyone by recommending good music. Thats all.

  32. who the heck is skeleton louge? That is what I wrote.

  33. oh yea and
“I’m all for promoting upcoming artist and “real” music, but to burn the bridges that helped create these new artist is kind of blasphemous. Don’t you think?”
    ^^ Cosign.

  34. Yup Chris Campbell is right. There has been a lot of spam going around in this post… but check this out, I put together a pic of all the album covers as they appear (in order) in the commercial: http://i26.tinypic.com/33vz0g1.jpg

  35. Commercial was dope… Not sure if the same will be said about BP3… Rhapsody had been around for years, you can basically bump any album they have (for an annual fee) wherever you can get internet access….

  36. I ain’t tryna stand on no soapbox, just tryna bump good music that’s all, I don’t give a damn who it is :) So let’s just make our ears happy dammit.

And yes that commercial is very original!

  37. Dope video, I like how the lined up the familia line with the cover and everything to.

  38. It is a (2)dope comercial but wudnt it hav been better 2 put the album covers in order of their release instead of…….well all over the place lol

  58. that commercial is dope! ha

  59. OMG CUBAN LINX 2 JUST LEAKED ON RAPIDSHARE!!!

  60. Shit the commercials almost better then the album haha

  61. @ StICk Up KiD Of Da SoUf

I ask you kindly to spell correctly cause your hurting my eyes with that jibberish spelling or at least don’t comment cause that shit is retarded

  62. Best commercial i’ve seen in a while.

  63. Anyways, this is really dope with all that album cover changing shit

  64. hey american poets, no one gives a flying fuck about the shitty music you are trying to sell. retard

  65. @ American Poets 2099…
    wtf…

and i dont know bout u guys, but after listening to the blueprint 3 im so underwhelmed. even kanye who, “made one of the best hip hop beats evarr!”, didnt impress. jay’s flow is too lazy imo, i wanna know what some others think

  66. The ad is great and I hope the rest of BP3 matches the creativity of the commercial. I will be supporting, but I feel like I’m going thru the motions of purchasing the cd instead of excitement being the usual driving force. GOD BLESS. PEace and Thanks

  67. Dope ad, haven’t listened to Blueprint 3 yet, hope it’s alright lol…

  68. Jay Z – The Blueprint 3 2009-P2P

WHOLE ALBUM JUST LEAKED 320 K

  69. le dope.

  70. nice vid but what the fuck is rhapsody?

  71. Im so confused with the direction Jay took with this new album….He is almost trying to be to different, but us real Jay fans dont need that. He may, but his fans arent going to like this change. Ive been a fan since Reasonable Doubt, own all his albums, and I just cant figure it out.
I heard the entire new album, erased the songs afterwards, and still plan on buying my copy of the BP3. Maybe it will grow on me…..but if one of the best to do its new music has to grow on you then something is not right??…?

  72. … and CL2 takes the crown… Deeper Than Rap was better than BP3, instrumental wise and… drum roll… lyric wise!!! i’m fuckin’ serious! Relapse takes 4th place haha

  75. round of applause to everybody who worked on this video

  76. Imma buy the album if you hate Jay-z you are really just a Hater. I Just Listen to the whole album and better than all the albums I heard all this year. I dowloaded it as a preview but I was gonna buy it anyway. See you haters in line on 9/11

  77. 2dope..

  78. Yup, just like the rest of you that like this video I was kinda hype on it my damn self. I thought that it was a cool idea to take all of his album covers and combine an evolution of them.

Since my boy Jonathan shot the album covers for Reasonable Doubt, Blue Print and a few others I assumed he did it. When he told me that he didn’t do it the first thing that popped in my head was “damn someone bit your shit, made a dope commercial and Jay Z was cool with it. What a bunch of suckers. That commercial was fresh until I found that out. Nothing is sacred not even your own damn work…

  79. Damn!!! Jigga is a Legend :) I truly respect this man!
    This commercial is too DOPE!!!

  80. Ewwww this commercial dope as fuck!

  81. when i saw him put on that jacket for vol. 3 it took me back to 99..I was 13 or 14 and I remember dropping all my savings from a summer job i had just go cop a jacket like the one he’s wearing. I bought it 2 sizes larger cause that was the trend back then….good times. Jay-z = G.O.A.T.
