  1. it seems like a classic already!!!!!

  2. Everything either looks, is going to be, or sounds like it will be a classic when the reality is albums now adays are hardly ever classic…just saying

That word gets thrown around too much…

The cover is cool…simple and nothing to crazy

  3. Oooooooooo

  4. oh shit, it’s the God……..

  5. cover’s godlike! highly anticipated record! “holy are you” is already a piece of pure genuine!

  6. cover is cool when the album drop again

  7. before Jay-Z, before Nas, before Biggie, before 2pac….there was Rakim….1 of the greatest ever 2do it. PAY HOMAGE!!

  8. Why does he look like The Undertaker?
Holy are you was kinda weak too.
I’m not getting my hopes up, nothing can fuck with the 18th letter. unless he gets premier and pete rock to do the beats again.

  9. Very excited for this

  10. dope cover

  11. espectaculaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!!!!!!!!!! the god emmce is back

  12. G.O.A.T……..rakim= a true MC

  16. artwork is fuckin ill.

  17. Awesome

  18. where are the gold chains?

  19. oct 20th? SAME DAY AS CLIPSE! should be a good day for hip hop

  20. Perfect…cover art…not overly “holy” but ancient wisdomistic. Ha.

  21. Holy are you is dope once you get what he is saying

  22. Cover is dope very God like for the God MC! When the album drop anyways?! And ya’ll tripping Holy Are You is some dope ass shit!

  24. so we got OB4CL2, we’re gonna get the Seventh Seal, now we just need that last one…

  25. I need Chico and the Man to drop this winter.. and maybe some new Elzhi, then this year could really be Hip Hop’s best in quite some time.

  26. @cle

    Don’t forget Street Hop.

  27. man this post and holy are you alone should have more comments than the forever post.
but i guess even tho the forever song was tight, house niggas like listening to ignorant shit now

  28. i love ra, honestly, but does nobody other than me think this could be a major flop?

  29. fashawn cormega and clipse all droppin october 2Oth too…

  30. ROYCE, RAKIM & THE CLIPSE
    all droppin on the 20th.

    2 days before my birfday.
    thats what it iz

  31. oh and i need another Elzhi album asap…the preface still gets spun a few times a week in the whip from front to back

  32. I wonder how much he will sell in the current state of things.

  33. This is going to be a instant classic.

  34. This is history in the making of the Kemet “GOD” people. If the rest of his album is anything like “Holy Are Are” , grab your atoms. Top artist right now: East Coast-Papoose,Joell Ortiz,Jay-Z till he sold his soul to the devil/ WestCoast-Crooked I,Mid-West- Tech Nine, South-Slim Thug,Lil Wayne(except he sold he soul more then once). All these dudes, in my humble opinion, are the best in the game. Lyrical Assassins! These guys are all watching with Zulu spears ready. The “R” will do us proud. Let’s see the how many hawks come to claim fame, or the ones to pay homage. How bout a remix with the Gods i mentioned above. Nice right? Someone give these guys numbers in a pm. Walk righteous, your natural BLACKNESS,and nothing and noone can touch you. EVER! Peace.

  35. HOLY SHIT!!!!!………………..That’s dope. Cant wait 4 album

  36. Yo & thnx 4 da info bout Roye album dropiin i aint evn no bout dat but hell now i’m evn mopre excited i can’t sit still lmao. O i cud care less bout Clipse he aint all dat

  38. CANT.
    FUCKING.
    WAIT.

Some of that real hiphop conscious shit from an OG that knows how to not be all lost up in the hype of this new garbage thats being made

  39. Took long enough.

  40. Holy is the God MC!

  41. cover reminds me a little of for whom the beat tolls by canibus

  42. thats a fucking sick album cover

  43. this is going to be so dope. NY IS BACK

  44. @ none ya
I no that but evry track i heard it was 1 dude rappin. & so i just thought 1 dude made da beats while da other rapped on them. My bad asshole

  45. Real Hip Hop in the house.

  46. I’m sayin’… it’s Rakim. He is a living god. PEACE

  47. ill as fuck!

  48. so dope

  49. Artwork looks sick

  50. @who cares

You still off son. Every track you heard didn’t have just one rapping on them. They’re twins, so they sound ridiculously similar. And that also means you need to listen to some more Clipse. If you had even heard grindin back in the day, you would have known that the Neptunes were all over their production tip. Damn. Go cop Hell Hath No Fury and name me one rapper that can do coke rap like them.

Side Note: This album cover’s pretty ill. When are we getting the tracklist?

  51. Anyone noticed the title says “Album ATRwork” and not “Album Artwork”? :P Typoz

  52. im freaking out like a little girl now

  53. After 10 years of waiting, RAKIM is FINALLY back!

This is going to be an EPIC HIP HOP ALBUM!

“IF you follow in his footsteps, you will become what he is…” – HOLY ARE YOU

  54. dope cover…

  55. tdottttt i think the same thing is gonna be one of the big flop of this year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i compare the new single of rakim “HOLY DARE” with

Jay z “DOA” or “WE RUN THIS TOWN”

REAKWON “NEW WU” or “HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS”

    SLAUGTHERHOUSE “THE ONE”

THE CLIPSE “KINDA LIKE A BIG DEAL”

    ALCHEMIST “SMILE”

Honestly do you really think the song of rakim better than all this song ???????

The song of rakim is average everyboby said is good because it’s rakim. the first single of 18th letter is 1000 times better than that c’mon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love and respect rakim but when you listen the new jay z, the clipse, raekwon or slaugtherhouse it’s impossible to said “holy dare you” is a great song !!!!!!!!

this song got no impact and the beat of nick wiz is not good is just average.

i wait jay z or raekwon album or clipse but not rakim

perhaps the album gonna be great but this single not !!!!!!!!!

  56. How is ‘the one’ better than ‘holy are you’? Seriously? For all the talk of lyrical integrity, Slaughterhouse’s album sounds like “tits, nipples, strippers” ad-nauseum.

  57. the beat of dj khalil is 1000 times better than “holy are you” serious same thing for jay z “doa” c’mon man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the beat is so average i’can’t remember one line of rakim. the hook is no good too !!!!!!!

is no a good song point blank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he can’t talk about agreat thing but is not a good song.

  58. he can talk about great thing science, math and all that but is not a good song !!!!!!

eminen can do song about is mom and kill the shit.

Pharoahe monch can do a song about a bullet and kill the shit.

kool g rap can do a song about murder scene and kill the shit.

kool keith can do a song about “tits, nipples, strippers” (sex style album) and kill the shit

andre 3000 can do a all album only about different type of girl and kill the shit (love below)

i’m respect rakim i know is a legend like big daddy kane, g rap, kool, keith, slick rick….

but the 20th october sound like flop !!!!

    honestly

  59. Cant wait! Rakim is gon kill it

  60. “HOLY ARE YOU” is one of the BEST RAKIM tracks that I have EVER heard! THE SEVENTH SEAL IS GOING TO BE AN EPIC HIP HOP ALBUM! RAKIM is still one of the greatest rappers if not THE GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME!

“If you follow in his footsteps, you will become what he is!”

  61. People that say RAKIM is going to flop are idiots… Holy are you is not the best track that Rakim has ever done but it is still good. The first verse sounds like he wrote it 10 years ago the second verse sound much newer. If you look at it maybe he did that on purpose. For anyone to think that the album will not have the most insite an realest music in a minute you lieing to yourself. This isnt Jayz or lil wayne people it is RAKIM.. This album will be one of the best this year no doubt in my mind.

  62. Yeah, in my opinion Holy R U is a descent track and although it’s not the best Rakim can do lyrically, it’s still a breath of fresh air hearing something from him and that his lyrics are usually always something with more insight or more thought provoking…Plus he still got that effortless commannding flow. Another thing to keep in mind is that Rakim never really puts out a crappy song. Granted the Holy R U single may not be his best but it’s still a good solid track in my opinion. If you compare the single it to what he has the potential to do at his most creative lyrical peak, it may not be at that level but he’s still way above a lot of other rappers out there as far as lyrical content, etc. I do believe the Seventh Seal will perhaps be his best solo effort to date and I hope the overall production will be on point too. Trust me – I bet he will be lyrically killin the shit. We haven’t heard the best from him yet.

  63. the cover’s sikk, still! reminds me, of my recent trip to CAIRO…when i visited the pyramids of GIZA.

    will be buying this…fa reel.

and to those who say, “the album’s going to flop”! if you talk about PROPHET MUHAMMAD (S.A.W.) on your album, it means that you’re not overly concerned with NIELSON SOUNDSCAN. it means, that you are “for the children”!

  64. The first verse sounds like he wrote it 10 years ago the second verse sound much newer ?

DAAMMM the all song sound like 10 years ago

i just listen the new Ras Kass is 10 times better than rakim song (beat & lyrics) you are old vision if you think is a good song.

the first single on 18 letters is 10 times better than that com’on peoples.

Don’t say is good because it’s Rakim !

If kool g rap release a wack album i say is wack

If slick rick release a wack album i say is wack

If de la soul release a wack album i say is wack

If Steve Wonder release a wack album i say is wack

If Al green release a wack album i say is wack

If legendary cats release a wack album i say is wack

Peoples be hosnest you got old vision of the music

The beat of this track is wack.

18th letter first single was a great album but do you think this new single got the same level ?

    hell no !

Remember the last album of rakim (THE MASTER) is so average 2 good songs on it, the both song of primo.

Listen jay z (DOA), Slaughterhouse (one), new ghostface, new raekwon. all this guy got real single not average like rakim single

october 20 sound like flip flop trust me.

the first single of a new album is generally one of the best but if it’s one of the best single of the album ? hummmm

but like i said above i respect rakim but flip flop comin soon.

  65. to the comment ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

RAKIM the artist, is not concerned with NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN. it would seem that the parent company of RA RECORDS isn’t, either. if they were, they’d say to RAKIM, “omit PROPHET MUHAMMAD’s (S.A.W.) name! from the track ‘HOLY ARE YOU’ “.

i don’t care if RAKIM’s new album ‘flops’; just like i didn’t care whether RAEKWON’s ‘CUBAN LINX II’ flopped.

i bought RAEKWON’s album; and i’m going to buy ‘THE SEVENTH SEAL’.

peace to the gods & earths.

ps: i really believe that the cover artwork has such an aura, that it will stand the test of time, just like ISSAC HAYES’ 1971 release ‘BLACK MOSES’!

  66. don’t judge a book by is cover

  67. to the comment ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

i’d rather listen to RAKIM, no matter how weak you think the album may be…than read your comments.

as long as i see ‘THE SEVENTH SEAL’ cd, i’m purchasing. let’s leave it as that!

peace to the gods & earths.

ps: as RAKIM once said, “I BLESS THE CHILD/ THE EARTHS/ THE GODS/ AND BOMB THE REST!”. i guess that rokn is a part of ‘the rest’!

  68. You got old vision of music man i’m sorry for you.

I’respect rakim for the great carreer but the come back is not possible.

WHY YOU DON’T RESPOND TO MY COMMENT ABOVE.

the first single of a new album is generally one of the best but if it’s one of the best single of the album ? hummmm

NICK WIZZ only produce guy like chino xl (i love chino 1 of the best) but is not a great producer.

Rakim got the chance to work with dre, just blaze. but nothing release. artistic difference.

18th letter first single was a great album but do you think this new single got the same level ?

Remember the last album of rakim (THE MASTER) is so average 2 good songs on it, the both song of primo. album flop.

see you the 20 october to listen that.

  69. rokn, i don’t do cyberwar!

so, let’s just leave it at this:

you are correct. ‘THE MASTER’ was not a good album. my excuse, is that RAKIM wanted to complete his recording obligation, with MCA RECORDS.

me personally? i love a lot of the content on ‘HOLY ARE YOU’.

in regards to my ‘old vision’ of music? you’re correct. because the OLD music, is better than the NEW music! i don’t buy SOULJA BOY!

i’ve had the honour of speaking to THE GOD EMCEE, himself. i have business relationships, with people RA knows.

but anyway, nothing you write, will detract me from the fact that i will be buying ‘THE SEVENTH SEAL’. as long as i am alve, INSHAA’ALLAAH.

now, i don’t wish to debate with you! i’m feelin’ the cover artwork; and i wish to hear the album. so i will be spending my legal tender, on the cd.

    ’nuff said!!!

  70. i respect your point of view no cyberwar just a discution with peoples who really knows music. everybody got point of view and it’s cool.

Old music is good no doubt with that, i’m a big fan of real lyricist. ( ras kass, chino, ghost, royce 59, slick rick and all old school cats.

personally i’m more kool g rap than rakim.

everbody talk about rakim but don’t forget g rap.

to be honest if the album is good (i don’t think so… ) i’m the first guy to post this and buy the cd.

” go cop the album is crazy ” trust me

al green already do wack album (in the 80) but is still a legend i’m a big fan i only buy the good album of al green.

if a guy said to me “al green do 1 or 2 wack albums” i said yes is true no doubt with that same thing for steve wonder, solomon burke, g rap, aretha franklin, all the legends and of course rakim.

see you the 20 october to talk about the album when is was out i don’t judge the album by a cover.

  71. ok, rokn. let’s talk.

i’m a producer from LONDON, UK. i was communicating with THE GOD EMCEE, RAKIM..in 2001. that was…and still is, a big thing for me.

you have to reemember, RA has always been laidback, and almost incognito, from the music industry. it’s just that his aura is so great, that people gravitate to him. mamybe, that’s why his music/ vibe may seem ‘old’.

as for KOOL G. RAP? i personally believe that THE DON GIANCANA is the closest, to RAKIM. he’s still doing ‘it’, right now. however, he is less marketable, than even RAKIM. this is why G. RAP hasn’t been signed in years.

both RAKIM, and KOOL G. RAP, are dons. i don’t think anyone is going to question that!

i love RAS KASS, CHINO XL, ROYCE 5′ 9″, IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE, etc, too. but even these guys, who are an extension of RAKIM, and KOOL G. RAP…don’t have major deals.

music is music. either it’s quality, or it’s rubbish! a lot of things determine what is quality. for example, content; beats; good mixdowns; vibe/ aura. we can go on & on. there are other categories, that determine what is quality material.

returning to ‘THE SEVENTH SEAL’. it’s seems that there are people…a demographic, that are checking for the vibe, of the cover. i am one of these people. i went to EGYPT/ KEMET, just over one month ago (check my pics, on myspace). i saw some of the pyramids of GIZA, and THE SPHINX; as well as some old mosques. the vibe of the cover, seems like RA went to KEMET, too. i don’t know. but the shoot is on some desert land. still, depending on how you think, will determine whether uou’re checking for the vibe of the cover, or not!

    BLESS.

  72. give me your myspace to see the pics.

major compagny don’t need lyricists right now.

you got a good point of view of real passionate hip hop heads i respect that. but i love my point of view too :)

G rap relaese a great mixtape with whooked after THE DON GIANCANA called “dead or live”

i know ra it’s a concept guy but i hope he choose real producers like khalil mr porter focus m phazes he got the chance to be a legend everybody want to produce a legend.

but i check that the 20 october.

    peace

  73. http://www.myspace.com/officialinsanemacbeth

when yo go on my myspace page, you’ll see a pic of me, with a certain MR. BERT PADELL. this guy is RAKIM’s accountant/ lawyer. he’s got so much dough, that BIGGIE SMALLS rapped about him, saying wanted paper, “like BERT PADELL!” (on a choon, which featured 112).

i have the KOOL G. RAP ‘TOP 5 DEAD OR ALIVE’ mixtape, with WHOO KID. there was a rumour, that 50 CENT was going to sign THE DON GIANCANA. that’s why the mixtape was recorded.

yes, major labels do not require lyricists.

DJ. KHALIL is good; FOCUS is sikk, to me. the closest, to DR. DRE!

as you said, everyone wants to produce for legends; me, included! :)

  74. the B.I.G. line is:

“ROOM 112/ WHERE THE PLAYERS DWELL/ TO STASH MORE CASH/ THAN BERT PADELL!”.

anyway, BERT PADELL, is RAKIM’s accountant/ lawyer.

  75. Yeah ! I see the pictures, i heard the story about 50 cent and g rap. i love the feature of g rap on ugk last album

  76. For everyone visiting this site and who are in support of Rakim and looking forward to his album: GO TO RAKIM’S OFFICIAL MYSPACE PAGE. IT GIVES US AN “OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE OF 11.17.09! I was hoping for it to drop Oct. 20th but I was kinda skepticl of this October date since it didn’t seem official. But Finally! we have an official release date! I know there’s been release dates or time frames given multiple times before but this is the first one I’ve seen actually posted on Rakim’s myspace. I got a feelin this is the date people!

  77. 17/11/09 it is, then? i was sceptical too, actually. as i am corresponding with one of RA’s people, and he said he didn’t know the release date.

plus, a full track listing hasn’t been sent out, to various mediums, yet. as long as the album comes out!

  78. I made a comment a few hours ago about Rakim’s official myspace page giving what appeared to be an official release date of 11.17.09. (BELIEVE ME, I AM A HUGE RAKIM FAN WHO IS EAGERLY AWAITING THE ALBUM AND WOULD NOT MAKE THIS UP)! Basically, there was a dessert like background image similar to the new album cover shown above but instead of Rakim being at the forefront it had the words “Rakim The Seventh Seal 11.17.09″ with an image of an old authentic looking hour glass which appeared to be on fire! (My take on this is that the hour glass image on fire was supposed to symbolize that the album is comming soon and the eager/burning anticipation of the album coming out and that when it does, it going to blaze…something to that affect)? Also, there was a whole list of dates and places that Rakim would be touring, apparently to promote the upcoming release of the album and to continue promoting once it comes out. However, when I visited the page again just a few mintues ago, that whole image is no longer there. This is interesting how all that info was removed in just a short period of time. Perhaps they decided to remove temporarily and will repost it a little later…?

  79. at the post ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

G., i saw the same thing you did, at the top of RAKIM’s myspace page.

i have also seen some of the list, of producers, emcees/ features, and song titles.

i live in ENGLAND, UK…in AMERICA, you say 11/17/09 (you place the month, before the day); where i live, we say 17/11/09 (we place the day, before the month).

well, if it was on RAKIM’s page, i would assume that 17/11/09 is the correct release date, for the cd.

however, RAKIM’s webmaster for his myspace page hasn’t even been clear, in regards to the full track listing, features, etc. that can only mean, that RA’s still recording the project.

but still, the cover artwork isn’t even on RA’s page, which i do find strange.

don’t worry, G. i saw what you witnessed, too.

    BLESS.

  80. for RAKIM updates, check the link:

    http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.9864#comments

TY FYFFE is a serious producer. looking forward to hearing what TY contributes.

  81. [...] in August, Meka posted an early version of the artwork (which is better IMO) but the label decided to go extra hard light for the official version (shown [...]

  82. an artist called TRACEY HORTON, is (apparently) featuring on the album, too.

NOTTZ, a producer i rate, is (apparently) also contributing beats!

  83. I WAS DOING SOME SEARCHING ON YOUTUBE AND CAME ACROSS THIS SONG CALLED “GUERILLA”. IT’S BY A GERMAN RAPPER NAMED AZAD. APPARENTLY HE’S LIKE A UNDERGROUND/HARDCORE RAPPER FROM GERMANY. ANYWAY, THE SONG FEATURES MY MAN RAKIM! AND I THINK HE RIPPED IT! THE ONLY THING IS THAT THE GERMAN RAPPER IS RAPPING IN HIS NATIVE GERMAN LANGUAGE SO UNLESS YOU SPEAK GERMAN, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT HES SAYIN BUT IT STILL SOUNDS TIGHT NONETHELESS. IF YOU WANT TO HEAR IT GO TO YOUTUBE AND TYPE: “Azad – Guerilla feat Rakim” AND THERE’S A SIMILAR SOUNDING REMIX TO THE SAME SONG: JUST TYPE: ” Azad – Guerilla Remix (feat. Rakim) MZEE-Edition”. ALTHOUGH IT AINT A RAKIM SONG IT’S FRESH LYRICS FROM THE R THAT SHOULD KEEP YOU SALIVATING FOR THAT SEVENTH SEAL ALBUM! PEACE.

  84. yes, G. i know about this song.
