That's not what I'm saying. I'm prob not doing a good job of explaining it right. But that's because it kinda goes beyond comprehension. Upbringing is irrelevant. I'm saying we share a connection as black people and we get each other's struggle. No matter what it may be. Whether you're Barack Obama or Jay-Z. Whether you grew up filthy rich or dirt poor. Whether you went to college or dropped out in the 10th grade. Whether you're a lawyer or a drug dealer. As black people there's a connection that we share that surpasses all of that. Cuz ultimately we STILL deal with the same issues on a larger scale.

I'm sure there's some shit that you hearin rap music that you just don't get. It's not cuz you didn't grow up the way said rapper did. It's simply cuz you're not black.

Doesn't mean you can't listen to rap or that you can't relate to it. Just saying there's something underneathe that you will always miss. The same way there's something I'll never be able to understand in white america or amongst Hispanics or Asians.

hey longlivetheking- so you are grouping all black people into one category and all white people into another category and assuming there are definate differences between all black and white people regardless of upbringing, economic status, demographics, dna, everything? so you dont think there are white people out there who have had rough upbringings that relate to a certain music genre like rap on a higher level than some black people who have had it better than them? your drawing a line of difference that cant be separated is, in my opinion, exactly what leads to racism, oppresion, and misunderstandings in the world and make us all worse off. And for the record, I am white and did not have a rough upbringing in the scheme of things-so i am sure that some people can "FULLY" relate to rap "better" than me, but what the fuck does that even mean? its not like hip hop is the end all be all god of the universe. I just prefer it to shitty country music. and do you think that rap is for all black people? i guarantee you there are black people who prefer country music, and that i relate to rap better than they do.

@ longlivetheKing…
It’s funny reading all ofvthese responses about how black people are being discriminated against and whatnot… Then I read your comment and it just proves there’s still ignorant people talking about how music is made for certain races. Congrats, kid.

I'm not saying rap is only for non-whites. I'm saying white people (no matter their upbringing or struggle) can't FULLY relate to it on the same level that WE do. To deny that is ignorant.

Most white kids got into it cuz it was different and a not like their parent's music. We got into it because it spoke OUR language, they looked like US, they dressed how WE dressed and acted how WE acted.

It's hard for someone who isn't black to really understand that. It wasn't something that we had to learn. That shit was already ALL around us and in our souls. You get what I'm tryna say?

It's like a woman and a man who give birth to a baby and then a few years later adopt a child. The adopted child, no matter how much love and affection he is shown, will never TRULY have the same connection with the parents that the first born has.

Just my 2 cents
