  1. He worked with Kanye and he’s the dude responsible for the autotune?

  2. Decent stuff

  3. Yess im excitedd

  4. It’s hot, I like.

  5. I thought it was aiight.. might grow on me more after a few listens..

  6. word is drake murdered jay z on his own shit..thats why he removed drake from the track

  7. @brandon: Pretty sure he said leave it to Weezy, Yeezy and Tpain.

  8. This shit is ill. Thank god for kanye when he raps.

  9. yes..real good

  10. dirty is out
is it just me or Ye killed Jay?

  11. should have went with the drizzy single…

  12. @wat: what’s that supposed to mean?

  13. Beats ok..im not really feeling this one…*shrugs*
Im waiting on the “off that” joint..

  14. Fuck hip hop. Motherfuckers ain’t feeling nothing at all these days. Too hard to impress people. I HATE MOTHERFUCKERS WITH OPINIONS. shit is really getting to me lately. Hip hop sucks cause of ya’ll. (quick vent)

  15. this song gave me chills, and thats the god honest truth.

  16. Feeling it

  17. “what you think i rap for, to push a fuckin’ Rav 4?”

lol. ‘Ye kinda out-rapped Hov on this one.

  18. FYI meka my dude can we get a higher quality of the dirty version if you come across it??? the clean version is higher quality.

  19. beats totally fiyah! (who produced it?) jigga and especially ye with really dope parts and even rihanna makes a good job! cool first single! grows with every listen! ;) can’t wait for BP3 after “D.O.A.” and this one…gonna be amazing!

  20. lol @ jay daniels being offended by peoples opinions.
agreed with the rest of yall, not really liking this track.

  21. It’s cool. Not amazing or fresh just cool.

  22. beats mad smooth.. and i agree, ye > hov on this one. songs hot though!

  23. Jay-Z may be old but he is so damn consistent. he will always be relevant. u can’t really hate on him. this may be commercial but it is real hip hop. the great ones always have that balance.

  24. Love HOV (pause). Kanye killed this though.

  25. how many official first singles are there gonna be

  26. Dopeboyz where the one of the first to post this; that’s a good look, big ups!

Other sites posted it at 9:58 AM

  27. wack, this aint hip hop.

“if i dont like it, i dont like it, it dont mean that im hatin”

  28. Good song. People must expect Jay-Z to have punchlines or something. lol

  29. im definetly feelin this! jay had his usual consistent verse, kanye killed it and rihanna had a cool vibe. smooth ass track.

  30. kanye fucking destroyed this shit…

  31. Watch when a whole lot of rappers hop on this beat.

  32. Remove Jay-Z & Rihanna’s wailing and the song would be aight.
The (pause) and (no homo) speak can die anyday now…

  33. Average verses from Jay-Z. Kanye was nice. Its amazing how all the people on Jay-Z jocks take average lyrics and a average delivery and raise them to some supreme level. Every album Jay since Reasonable Doubt has been just OK and even RD was just a good album (not great).

  34. if drake was singing the same chorus that rihanna is. i feel like it was a good switch.

  35. kanye and jay z snaked drake…kanye used drakes verse on this..basically used drakes verse as a reference….

  36. Rihanna does my head in i have to switch it down when she comes on i swear.

  37. really jay? come on now.

  38. When is the Drake version leaking

  39. the beat is nasty. ye spit a nasty verse. jay didn’t really come hard… at all.

i wanna hear that drake joint off bp3

  40. Jay DID fall off. Fact.

  41. Ye killed Jay

  42. Who said this was the song that Drake was supposed to be on, Im pretty sure Jay just switched the songs for the lead single

  43. After a couple more listens,
the beat is dope, kanye is what we expect from him..but other than that its not that great..ehh, radio will eat it up though.

  44. lookin forward for ye’s album…this year?

  45. Better than D.O.A for sure but I still long for the Dead Pres days.

  46. D.O.A was lackluster..i prefer Slaughterhouse’s and Asher Roth’s versions over Jay..

  47. Oh God is BP3 gonna be Kingdom Come all over again? This song is not God. Rhymes are flat and the beat is boring.

  48. I actually love this, the beat goes in. And I think the two of them always play off each other well, try to outdo the other one and shit

  49. not sure bout this one, maybe when i get the headphones on it’ll sound better but I do know Kanye killed Hov on this one, should be just Ye and RiRi

  50. kanye murdered jay guest he wasn’t we he said that he will be micheal jordan on these other rappers i guest “lil bro came on kicked his ass”

  51. Anybody else think Jay sounds like Quest on the first verse?

  52. Average at best. Rihanna IS NOT A SINGER!!! she should not be allowed anywhere near a mic.
Jay’s verse is lacklustre and Kanye’s is alright. beat is errrhh!!
D.O.A was not that much better either.

    Still waiting….

  53. All Black Everything

    Again?

  54. 1st off, just to let everybody in here that thinks Jay-Z is snaking Drake, or kicked him off the song, THIS IS NOT THAT SONG! They decided to switch singles at the last min. Drake is still on B3, trust me, got inside info. 2nd, this shit is fire, and all 3 of them showed up for this one. For all the ppl that think Ye killed HOv, ur crazy. Ye was nice on this, but you gotta remember Jigga doesn’t spit punchlines like Ye does, you gotta take his entire verse as one piece and analyze it that way

  55. better than a lot of the other shit on the radio. IMO

  56. meh..

  57. ^^
    cosign

  58. not the meh… i agree with b.

  59. Rihanna can sing that (large) ass off.
    ‘Ye went in hard.
Jay-Z seemed like he was way layed back, should have came harder.

But no problems with the song, It was dope shit.

*no homo needs to die. It’s 2009 people.

  60. Not a bad track but its not great either. It’ll probably grow on me. Kanye killed Jay on his own shit IMO. I’m kinda seeing a pattern of rock samples. Jockin Jay-Z, D.O.A. and Run This Town all have some rock samples in there. Maybe thats why people r hating on this in the c-section.

  61. What’s All This Talk Bout Ye > Hov? I’m A Huge Ye Fan, But Hov Went Harder.

  62. @ Younghov402: kanye’s verse as a WHOLE was better than jay’s

  63. damn i thought it would be better than THIS. mm might grow on me we’ll see…

  64. jay 2/10
    rihanna 9/10
    yeezy 9/10

now give me the instrumental so i can delete jay

  65. Somewhat disappointed in Jay. I starting to think we are seeing a bit of old rust.

  66. [...] Via [...]

  67. @ Big Red
Jockin’ Jay-z didn’t make the final cut apparently

  68. @ BOS

o i kno, its a promo track but it does have a rock sound and influence in it though.

  69. @ElonSkee
Jay was NOT that bad. Chill out with the over exaggerations.

I’ll have a full opinion after I listen to it like, 5-7 times when I can actually dissect Jay’s lyrics.

  70. hmm……………………maybe……………………..no

  71. where’s the jay-z/drake track that was supposed to come out this month?

  72. disappointing. Incoming kingdom come type album.

  73. better than a lot of the other shit on the radio. IMO

    b. said this on July 24th, 2009 at 7:14 am

im not really sure who listens to the radio anymore? they play garbage all day

  74. Jay didn’t say much, and Kanye did his thing.. But it’s a single, and it sounds a lot better then the stuff that’s on the radio…

  75. Question, what makes this song weak?

  76. nothing. it’s not weak niggas just wanna beat on jay-z everything he does. Heavy lies the crown i guess.

  77. Hova Free
    http://usershare.net/4yhed5p111nn

  78. Rhianna made this track work.

    YEA, I SAID IT!!!!

  79. No one is ever satisfied, goodness! 2/10 for Jay’s verse? Really? Why must everyone either be a stan or hater. Friggin ell. It’s a dope tune, like a more hip hop version of live your life. Less melodius synths is a definite plus.

  80. @ Deleter, Grade A hater.

Lets just put this to rest. Jay was mad laid back on this track. We get the return of Rhianna from her hiatus after the Chris Brown situation. Kanye went in and whoever said that drake wrote his verse and was saying Ye > Jay is a fool. And basically people are hating because they just want to find a way to hate jay or people don’t like the rock samples used on his 2 singles and the promo single. Get over it. Totally agree with b. better than fuckin ice cream paint job and your a jerk.

  81. Im happy people dont like it that much :)
Hate when jay drops a song and a the world stops to listen .. he cant rap no more .
proof is in the track .. ye killed em and i dont even like kanye that much

  82. shudda dropped the joint wid Drake

  83. bitch follow the leader.

  84. I like Jockin Jay-Z, DOA, was good then he comes with this radio friendly crap. Ye did kill it though. Jay shoulda left Rihanna out and gone harder.

  85. WHY all of a sudden do you gotta sound so arrogant and harsh against Jay-Z? Bunch of lame ass niggas joinin the bandwagon… THINK FOR YOURSELF!

Kanye was better? So what?! -_- Since when is it a shame being outdone by Kanye? he’s an AMAZING rapper! As Jay-Z! It doesn’t make Jay look bad at all!

Kanye is the only rapper to have his first 3 albums nominated for “Album of the YEAR (not only Rap)” Grammy award! For fucks sake…

  86. AC smells

  87. sounds like Babyface & Stevie Wonder – How Come How Long

  88. DOPE.

  89. FredRico, Jay’s now whack, period. k

  90. The song is just ok.

    1. Rihanna should be replace. She sounded terribly flat and bored.
    2. Kanye did outshine Jay. No, no one expects Jay to come with crazy punchlines but come on, the word play was lazy and it sounds like he’s going back to his Kingdom Come style of almost stutter rapping.

Yea, some people beat down anything Jay puts out but there are more people who uplift anything he puts out to the stratosphere.

  91. Ehhh… I really wanted to like the new shit by Jay, but I’ve not dug either of the last 2 singles.

Sorry, I actually do like a lot of music (including hip-hop) now adays. I just don’t like the new Jay-Z stuff.

  92. And everybody needs to fucking get rid of the word “hating”. Why can’t niggas just not like something anymore?! Unless you have solid proof that a person continuously does not like an artist, makes that dislike known publicly AND goes out of their way to make that dislike known, then DO NOT USE THE WORD.

People who say they don’t like this single are not “hating”. we just don’t fucking like it.

  93. m i the only one that heard the follow the leader joint wit shas stimuli where he talks aboutD.O.A.?
and jay said Follow the leader in the second verse etc/
    coincidence?

  94. @ BIG RED

I Did It Because People Where Saying That They Didn’t Want No Jay

I Must’ve Hit A Nerve With That Ha Ha Ha

  95. Rihannas vocals sound like chris made em worse
    Jay… I expect a lot more nigga
Yeezy.. Niggas ride his dick too hard..U can fuckin tell hes reading his shit.. Flow mad weak not evn tryna knock dude..

  98. This is Gabage……..needs more of a grimey wu feel…

Thought Jay would finally come correct/…Oh well.

    WuGrain Sleeves…

  99. Kanye did outperform Jay on the track, but Jay’s wasn’t nothing like 2/10 maybe a 7/7.5? Idk I liked the “Roc Nation, pledge your allegiance” line that was tight, Jay had a lot of references that might take awhile for people to understand but there’s no excuse for rhyming “all black everything” twice in a row so I do think Kanye did better, didn’t “kill” him though. Beat was nice, Rihanna didn’t really do a whole lot for me, overall I give it 7.5/10 D.O.A. was better

  100. Yo son.. the fuck is this.. this the reason I had to get my man beans of cuban linx 2.. Jay u aint got it no more.. damn son..

  101. This album will be like Relapse, all the stans will jock it, but it will have No replay value. Believe that!!!

  102. u aint da real raekwon fool….I know so cuzz i just seen him and he aint nere no computa….

  103. wow… I bet ur a genious for workin that one out..

if u jus seen the real rae lol, catch up to him and tell him not to put on C2 on the album lol.

but seriously, this song is wack by jay.

  104. i like this.

jay on that movado flow which is w.e chuckled @ ‘lookin like millionaires row’…
    i dislike rihannas voice
yeezy…’its a fast life we on a crash coures’ dope… best kanye verse in a minute++

‘off that’ has way more potential though.

  105. you Need to get Reverend William Burke on more tracks…..word is he is Planet Asia’s “Bobby Digi” 2nd Personality…………DiGi dIgI…

  106. The song is okay. I would have liked if he came a little harder. I think the song would have been better without Rihanna’s wailing…..I have to turn the volume down on her.

  107. this will grow on me..D.O.A. took a while to grow on me and i love that song now. everyone should know now that hype never is the same as the reality. Blueprint 3 will be a good album but i don’t believe the hype of it being classic ish.

  108. Good stuff…Kanye pre-autotune/Gay Fish had the potential to be good, in case people forget The College Dropout

  109. [...] Spotted @: 2DopeBoyz [...]

  110. crack! that guitar on the beat is fucking crazy..

  111. 206, he hasn’t had an album as good since then, people haven’t forgotten, they’ve just been waiting. You gotta love how everyone translates not liking something into “hating” these days. Its as if niggas can’t have a negative opinion about something ever. This wasn’t a good track, plain and simple.

  112. Rihanna was trash on this song and I actually like some of her songs. That chorus should have been song by a male singer. She doesn’t really suit the song. Both Kanye and Jay were good, didn’t blow me away but they were good. Decent song. Would be a lot better if Rihanna was replaced though.

  113. Sounds more like Kanye and Rhianna’s lane. Jay’s out of place on this joint.

  114. this sounds better the more i listen to it…rihanna can’t sing anyway but i still like her on the track

  115. Thanks Meka. Trackback: http://histakesmusic.blogspot.com/2009/07/jay-z-run-this-town-ft-kanye-rihanna.html

  116. DOPE DOPE DOPE!!!

  117. w/e niggas, a remix will come out in a week or so with everyone and their mom on it, then MAYBE it will be an acceptable piece of music

  118. he couldn’t have got an a singer with actual vocal range on this track?

  119. just realised, jay finally let kanye rap on his album.
i do like this track, but really wish rihanna wasn’t on it. it kinds hurts my ears when she’s singing.

  120. kanyes verse sounds like its old as fuck… jay prolly stole this shit from kanye

  121. why does everyone always gotta say hate so sad. Royce Da 5′9″ – 8-11> this shit and i have no opinion on jay z or kanye some ppl on here must love b.e.t. still with the garbage they playin as well

  122. kanye saving that verse to merk jay wit lol

  123. I wouldn’t say Rihanna was trash but just didn’t sound right. Maybe Jay could have put Beyonce on it??? and I thought this was the 2nd single after DOA became the 1st???

  124. I actually like it epecially kanye’s verse and rihanna voice gives a good hook

  125. Now the hook is sounding better the more I listen but I still feel like he could have chose someone better for it like Beyonce

  126. CLASSIC JAY-Z!!!!!!!!!! BLUEPRINT 3 BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  127. Ye > Jay. Rihanna sounds awful.

  128. “if i dont like it i dont like it that dont mean that im hating”-common

  129. Here’s the deal,

Run This Town, is for the radio, which means right of the bat, Jay-Z isnt even trying, the half-assed laid-back flow, using black & everything all that nonsense, still better lyrics & flow than everything thats on the radio right now,
Rihanna, back after gettin her ass kicked, her singing seems forced & kinda out of place, like shes singing but we all know what she really wants to sing about…
Kanye, realized he was on the track wit Jay & brought out the big guns (no homo) its not that he killed Jay with the punchlines or the flow or anything but her brought something on the track that kinda stole the show.
Or maybe Roc Nation is trying to make a statement or whatever, its a good song, Jay’s lyric are on point but he sounds tired & restrained, while Rihanna is forced to sing, & Kanye seems to be the only one that fit right in & made sense,
now, as for Blueprint 3 for me,
it can go either way at this point, History – Jay at his best a pure, unabrigded lyrical onslaught, Brooklyn We Go Hard – Jay still flexing his muscles, somewhat expimental if u ask me, D.O.A. – Jay making a statament, excellent lyrics & flow, now Run This Town – also trying to make a statement, that Roc Nation is here to stay, these 4 tracks alone besed on beats, flow, lyrics & subject matter have already murked some other rappers whole 12-20 track album, this is only a sign, now we wait.

  130. Is Rihanna on the list of hated singers now or something? Smh. Fans get more critical every year.

  131. this will grow on me. but why does everybody judge jay so hard pause like everybody expects reasonable doubt or BP1 its not 96 or 01 or 03 get over it & no i am not offended by the opinions

  132. [...] is gonna be off the hook! Shouts to Meka for [...]

  133. [...] Download here. [...]

  134. The song doesn’t really have any replay value for me. The beat is alright, but all 3 of ‘em bored me to death. Truthfully, Jay has always bored me (American Gangster his best IMO), but Rhianna sounds flat, and even ‘Ye kinda just seemed uninterested. Take that for what you want.

Funny how a guy can’t have an opinion that isn’t in the majority, without be labeled as a hater.

  135. i like it but jay-z got anihilated by yeezy!, jay shulda brought more to the table on this the beat was too god to tottally commercialize his lyrics. kanye found a way to come hard but not be to grity for the radio so y didnt jay? …well its wateva pretty nice single overall rihanna fits this hook perfectly but a verse from drake mighta made this song of the year.( noT LyricallY)

  136. I hope this isnt the track that was supposed to have Drake on it. I liked it, but if Drake got scratched from such a big release, that would be disappointing.

  137. This is radio friendly, not feeling the beat. Hook is eh, idk what it is but I guess Jay has set the bar so high for his songs. I’m not feeling this one.

  138. Drake is featured on “Off That”. This was a total different song.

  139. “i’m just trying to chase the color on your mood ring”
fuck ye for being such a beast.

  140. Ye destroys this

  141. I like it but Ye did kill it.

  142. Yo listen to Jay verses:
he starts the first verse speaking to the new generation Roc Nation, tellin em this is the anthem for a new beginning pull out all ya hood shit black cars and black wear , etc but really meaning let’s murder the game as a team again but of course you were not listening so he said “I will explain later” and start to spit what excites u money like always, he spit about what any other rapper does including Wanye but you say it’s WACK….

    On the second verse :
He spit some Hot lines if you listen, He said “You can call me Ceasar in a Dark Ceasar.” If you black and get a haircut you know what a dark ceasar is it’s a type of haircut and it’s hot cuz the real ceasar was white and definitly didnt have hair like wool no racail shit. Then he goes on to say “Please Follow the leader So Eric B. We Are/ Microphone fiend its the Return Of The God, Peace God”. As he proceeds to go in he tells how his team is the winners explaining how his team has the ladies and the opposing side have gotta lotta dudes (could be in reference to Jimmy or Game)and ends it in big money talk

Kanye verseIm Not Gone Lie Ye murdered it just listen…But Ye is bigger than Hip-Hop he does it all and lately kills all tracks he touch and yea you might not like how rihanna sings but like T-pain listen to what she says its hot.

  143. Rihannas part

Lifes a game but its not fair, I break the rules so I dont care, so I keep doing my own thing, walking tall against the rain, victory’s within the mile, almost there dont give up now, only thing thats on my mind is who gon run this town tonight

I actually like rihanna on this… And Ye.. I think the beat fits him rapping nicely.

  144. HOV is one clever dude, he pushes back the track with Drake (whether Drake murdered Jay on the track only adds fuel to the flame), and releases a pretty chill track with great components. Now everyone’s wondering what the track with Drake sounds like…great marketing technique, and great build up for BP3. This is gonna be huge.

  145. All right peeps, listen up.
The first single from Blueprint 3 i s D.O.A. The second single is this joint (Run This Town.) There are two promo singles; Jockin’ Jay-Z, and Brooklyn Go Hard. All you people talking about Drake, and this and that.. Drake is on another track, which is called Off That. And Jay decided to go with this joint as his second single instead of the one featuring Drake. But it is definitely going to make the cut for the album (or maybe be the third single, who knows.)

.. And back to the track. ^^ Kanye’s verse is off the chain! One of the best verse’s I’ve ever heard from him. He really goes hard. Jay-Z is NOT bad at all on this track. But still Ye is ‘creme de la creme’ on the song. Rihanna does what she has to do, ant that was copacetic. But this is going to be such a huge banger I think!

  146. I like JAY.. DOA was pretty dope.. this one aint really doing it tho.. The cadence is there, just not the RHYMING..ha.. I think he more interested in telling us something, then how it sounds.. Rihanna sounds cool. maybe cut the chants *hey hey* on the chorus add some piano/strings.. Kayne comes tight and saves the track. ha

On the whole.. I think for what they want it to do..it will do well.. They got the backpack/Hiphop/rap fans with DOA.. this one more commercial/pop with rihanna on the chorus for the radio fans.

  147. You know somethings wrong when Kanye murders Jay on a track, if anything just for the fact that Ye actually sounds like himself.

Any nigga that gets upset because other people dislike something FOR A REASON is stupid.
I mean, a big Reason why I am/was a Hov fan, was because no matter what, up until BP3 tracks started coming out, he sounded like Hov and no one else. You could put on any Jay record and right away just be like, “Yup, that’s him”. and it would almost always be hot. Now he’s trying to flow/sound like whats “hot” on the radio now, just to stay relevant. That’s soooo disappointing.
With The original blueprint, he was doing something new, creative, and dope to the game by bringing back the use of sampling and making soul sampling hot.Everybody started jocking it, because nobody else sounded like that at the moment, and the flow was sick.
8 years later on BP3, hes pretty much just blending in, instead of even trying to stand out.

Call me a hater if you want, but that’s the truth.

  148. disappointed….no shots

  149. The beat is incredible; one of my favorite’s of the year. I thought Jay’s verses were fine but as cliche as it sounds, Kanye indeed murdered Jay on his own shit.

  150. Hey Jay Daniels..um…you said you hate mother fuckers with an opinions, but you just gave us an opinion so do you hate yourself? I’m just wondering dude. But I liked da song, Kanye killed it. He’s da freakin man!!

  151. I wonder what people expected from a single?…I swear if “Give It To Me” woulda came out today, people would say “Jay didn’t come hard enough…he’s not spitting hard enough”…and lmao @ people saying what the album is gonna sound like even though it’s not even finished lol….

But as for the song…Jay killed it…took me a couple listens to catch the wordplay…He has a good way of making references to shit that the average person wouldnt know about (which explains most of the ignorance of the commenters)…I was expectings an annoying stop-start flow, but this was a pleasant surprise lol…Ye’s verse was the typical Ye verse…it just sounded a lil more….scripted?…

but i like this track….still waitin for that drake shit lmao

  152. Aye Dime One…you described it how I wanted to “he cares more about telling us something than how it sounds”…If you back and listen to the prelude from kingdom come…It’s sounds as if he’s tryna make sure you get the wordplay and understand the WEIGHT of what he says….people dont respect anything that doesnt have punchlines in it these days…People would listen to “You Dont Know” today and be like “ehhh he aint say nuthin…just average rhymes”…but if you actually listen to what he said…thinks like “in 18 months…40 million more”…or on diamonds remix where he said “I’m not a businessman, i’m a business man”…people forget that those are not just words…and it’s really amazing if you try to rap your mind around the REALITY of those lines….people just want punchlines and wordplay….”Niggas tryna say they made hov…so i said “ok so make another hov”<<<that’s real…and it’s evident when you listen to him

  153. This joint is off the chains. The production is off the chains. I’m certain that Kanye produced this, because it sounds like some signature drums he’s used on a few of his earlier joints and this joint with Consequence called “So Soulful”, which I was ironically thinking about today.

Kanye West is still the #1 rap cat, as well as Jay. I rocked with him all during 808s, but I’m glad he’s back to his all-star rapping. I hope to get a new Ye Rap Album really soon here.

  154. blah….. for all the people critical of the new jay song check this out…… His bar is set ridiculously high….. Don’t say he needs to quit because it isn’t on par with the Hov in his prime… I’m not callin you guys haters but just think about it…

  155. [...] Here is the original post: Jay-Z – Run This Town f. Kanye West & Rihanna [...]

  156. Love the song, love who was on it real dope! dope post!

  157. lmao @ kanye being even close to the #1 rap cat. smh

  158. This sounds like a commercial (politically) correct song ; ) BIG THUMBS UP FOR DOING NOTHING DIFFERENT

Jay-Z in 2009 = has no style, bites everything possible

    This song = Kanye/T.I. swaggerjacked

Goes back to listening to Holy are You by Rakim

  159. GOD DAMN!!! song is fire. both kanye and Jay killed it! kanye a lil more though. at least its not like renegade where jay had an okay verse and eminem had a great one. both these verses are DOPE!!

  160. Ye did good on the track, putting up consistent verses nowadays, and he gotta go hard if he rappin wid his mentor lol.

Jay did a laid back verse, i can’t say it’s his best but it works cuz it’s just chill. rihanna did do her thing, yes she did. how the fuck can you say she didnt -_-

now to see drake on this mofo, leak that shit alraedy, that dude better be doing the chorus too cuz the chorus and beat goes hard for this

  161. radio’s gonna make this song a hit, forreal. it definitely will get played by radio odee.

  162. If Kanye isn’t in your Top 5 list of rappers spitting RIGHT NOW, you don’t know Hip hop in My Opinion. I didn’t say of ALL TIME, but RIGHT NOW. SMH…man, Gucci Mane been clouding people’s minds…lol.

And get outta here with that purist mindset. RAKIM is GREAT! We know this. But it’s 2009 now. If we continue to hate on new music in hip hop that comes out and simply just rely on listening to old artists that really don’t make music anymore (I know Rakim is coming with an album this year, so don’t comment on that), then I feel hip hop eventually dies. People are too overly critical. Pop is not a bad thing either. We just lost a music figure that was arguably the most important artist in music of our time, and he was the KING OF POP. The merge of hip hop and other genres, including POP is what helped evolve hip hop and create it’s longevity.

  163. BTW, why are people saying Drake is going to be on another version of this? From what I understood, Jay and Drake had an entirely different song than this that they did. It was rumored to be the single, but Jay went with this one instead. Who ever said Drake was going to be on THIS joint?

  164. 8 out of 10

    P.S.

“LATE 4 SOUNDCHECK” The Album drops AUGUST 18th 2009

  165. @ Young Son (The Hip Hop Dreamer) – Dude, I could not agree more with you!
And for all you peeps who talks about “I can’t wait to hear Drake on this joint”, Just STOOOOOP! He is never goinh to rap/sing/or anything else on this track. But he is going to feature on a whole other track called “Off That”. Listen:
The first official single was originally planned as “Off That” featuring Drake but has since been changed to “Run This Town” with Rihanna and West, as confirmed by Jay-Z in an interview with Tim Westwood “We basically run this town. It’s myself, Rihanna and Kanye. It’s pretty much it”.[13] It was released on July 24.[13][14]Officially released for radio airplay on July 24 at 9:11 a.m in tribute to the September 11 attacks

  166. Jay-Z may be old but he is so damn consistent. he will always be relevant. u can’t really hate on him. this may be commercial but it is real hip hop. the great ones always have that balance.

    ^^^^^^^^

    Co-signage

  167. meh
    it’s cool
    jay-z should have came hard
    D.O.A.>>>>>Run This Town

  168. Kanye kills that shit. Sound like when he use to call himself Kanye to the. Its a dope tune for the club overall .

  169. shouldve just got B on the hook.
    ah well, sick song.

  170. ^^^^^^^^
That makes you think again about the whole Jay-Z & Rihanna thingy huh? LOL. It’s SO obvious!

  171. @Jay Daniels

I feel the same way wit HipHop fans in general,no one likes anything anymore it seems, but fuk it I know what dope and whats not!

  172. People expect too much from Jay. Have people forgotten how many albums this dude has made back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back??? Of course he ain’t the same now but this shit here is better than most music. Be thankful and stop the bullshit.

  173. I could see this shit getting play on the radio & isn’t that what it’s all about? I swear man, a lot of you are always on some hiphop elitist shit & if a nigga ain’t super lyrical it’s garbage. Sometimes you gotta just relax & listen to some chill music, this shit is a lot better than the dumb shit on the radio.

Hiphop don’t always gotta be real lyrical, sometimes mediocre lyrics with a dope flow & a dope beat is all u need for a good vibe. The only type of hiphop I don’t like is that dumbass bamma shit like hurricane chris & stanky leg n shit like that.

  174. I Like it. As Long as there isn’t like a million freestyles to this shit in the next month, that shouldn’t change.

  175. [...] **entire post jacked from dopehouse [...]

  176. it was just aight…im kinda sad

  177. most of yall hating in these comments aint nothing but wack ass rappers.

  178. i like it but they should have replaced rihanna with mary j. or a better vocalist. rihanna’s voice is mad annoying.

  179. Chrisette michell or A. Keys woulda kilt this. I cant lissen for rihannas wailing.

Games got a point, Jay is tryin too hard to hang wiv tha yung crowd

  180. [...] 2DopeBoyz] Share and [...]

  181. fuckin rihannas voice is so annoying. i swear she’s so overrated. someone needs to replace that whiney ass voice with quality.

  182. @the truth: tell us your TOP5 then! Are you sure they got better material than Ye? Do you even know Kanye’s work?

As I bet you don’t, do yourself a favor and LISTEN to this 5 volumes compilation: http://kevinnottingham.com/2009/04/23/kanye-west-guest-verses-vol-5/

Or just think about this fact: why would all Kanye RAP albums be nominated for “Album of the YEAR” Grammy award.

  183. Who ever said Jay-Z needs to go sit down needs to go somewhere and sit down. Why the hell do people expect this man to rap like he did in 1996. He is not the same person he’s not the same rapper. If he did rap like he did in 96 then yall motherfuckers would STILL have a problem…GET OVER IT. Either way his verse was still better than all the other GARBAGE that’s out know. I’m sick and tired of people comparing Jay-Z to Jay-Z it doesn’t fuckin matter because he’s still one of the best rappers ever. If he did another song like Dead Presidents (hot song) then you would have a problem. If he did another Soon You’ll Understand then you would have a problem. If he did another You must love me then YOU WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM. GET OVER IT. It does not matter because he’s still Jay-Z and he will still rap circles around your favorite rapper. So stop comparing Jay-Z to Jay-Z cause either way he’s go win he is one of the greatest and his first verse was HOT!!! So get OVER IT. PS The Game is GARBAGE . Hop off of Jay’s stuff

  184. haha gotta love how people act like you are not allowed to dislike a song. calm down people thats what the fucking comment section is for.

  185. and lmao @fredrico. because the grammy award has any bearing of skill whatsoever in todays industry. jesus christ you kids are lost.

  186. Why even lie? I cut this whole track down to Ye’s verse and looped it.

  187. You Cats Hate Way To Much. Rhianna Makes The Song..Point Blank Period. Kanye Came Nice. Jay Came Nice. Like Fuckk Outta Here With This Fall Off Business. Beat Was On Point

  188. i still bump the blueprint… jay yeah he doesnt rap like that anymore but i still like doa and this YE is the best producer/rapper/flyest dude doin it right now hands down

  189. I’m feeling this seriously! Rihanna maybe not, but Jay-Z killed it, and Ye just fucking killed it even more.

    Can’t wait for Sept 11!!

  190. @ A Pissed off Person

Cosign. Jay is doing him. Putting out music. He already established how great he is when he put out sooooo many albums out back to back before his retirement. He has nothing left to prove so people should just be thankful Jay is still making music.

  191. @1dollar

i feel the same way he has nothing to prove just like kanye thats why he did 808′s i think, cuz he already put out three CLASSIC albums and so he could experiment and do whatever the hell he wanted too cuz hes kanye west and people will still make it a number 1 album

  192. i enjoy rock samples. i never understood how people can be content listening to the same type of sounds over and over again. give me some psych/prog rock… shit that’ll be better =P

  193. GARBAGE.

  194. lmao @ people hating in these comments are wack ass rappers

    co sign

Ye verse still stands out! he literally killed it and the guy has the game on lock, from RnB str8 back to rap and production.

Jay came hard bp3 will be nice! and Rihanna also did good glad to hear her on something new, yes she came from Barbados and thats where I reside, gottah show that love!!!!

  195. It’s sad when everyone thinks that because someone doesn’t spit lyrics that are super punchlines and can knock you ‘hilariously’, then they suck.

For one, this track is hot. No matter how you look at it; this isn’t EXCELLENTLY SUPERB, but it’s not horrible.

Jay-Z just wants you to realize something; Roc is in the building. It’s not going anywhere. It’s going to be around.

Rihanna’s part was good. He probably could have gotten other people but she fits the bill perfectly; I’m sure he wasn’t looking for the best. He was looking for someone who could do WHAT HE WANTED great. And her voice fits; chill out. What’s done is done— suck it up and enjoy her part because it won’t be changing.

Kanye’s verse is absolutely beautiful. Personally, I believe that it was purposeful that he simply shine. His mentor finally puts him on a track and to compliment Jay’s ‘laxness’, he was probably asked to try to murder it as best as possible. Considering Kanye is typically, a good lyricist/punchline giver himself, I’m sure it was second nature.

For those who don’t like it, then that’s fine— but this track is certainly going to see some airplay and it’s not that bad. It just needs to grow on you. Overall, I give it a 8.75/10. To me, it’s going to turn into one of those songs that are gonna be hot now but eventually, it’s get annoying. But best to enjoy it now, eh?

  196. @the truth: The Grammys VS. Blog comment section… Grammy wins!

Which one has more credibility? The one that analyzes music objectively and not full of hatred. That was my point, not that the Grammys define what’s best (Wayne’s Tha Carter III is not better than The Cool or Untitled, but it won… so I know it’s flawed.). Still, it DOES mean something (Tha Carter III IS a good album despite not the best that year), as in you should at least check out and listen to the music before forming your opinion. That’s why I gave you the link, but you won’t check it out, you won’t tell us your TOP5 and you still got the nerve to come here and act smart! But guess what? The comment section is also for people to express disagreement with the comments in it… so don’t play the victim. You’re the one who’s mad, the other people are arguing (NORMAL in a thread).

  200. It’s best I ever heard…

Jay is genius, as 4 me. Yeezy too. Fuck Game, he’s looser, it’s no use to сompare ‘em!

  201. Manz actually don’t understand what Hov said in his verses, which is why they say Jay made a sub-par verse..Kanye did go hard but so did Jay..Difference is with Jay you need to do some research to understand what he said.

  202. D.O.A Bangz better….but kanye did murder this track.
    8/10

  203. co-sign with pumbaclut….. 100%

  204. Kanye killed this shit.

Kanye West and No I.D. produced this beat by the way for those people who were asking.

  205. this is sick. except the rhianna shit is not that great to be honest, i think it would have been better if she toned it down or was just not on this song

  206. you can tell that drake wrote that kanye verse

  207. Drake didn’t write shit lmao, what crack have you been smoking on? ‘Ye spits hes verses just like Jay does, off the top and then he goes from there, so get Drake’s dick out of your mouth, just saying that shit because he’s the internets latest superhero, ‘Ye went in on this shit plain and simple and you just can’t accept that, get out of denial and realize that you can now add Yeezy to the list with Em and who knows who else to kill him on his own shit!

  208. kanye killed him like my man em did on renegade

  209. That Shady Universe name jacker is back Smh…..Dude is fucking lame. Why name jack someone if you can’t do it right???

  210. I hate when people name jack my “man” Shady Universe. You got me acting homotional right now…..Smh

  211. Shady Universe get at me dude…..I need you in me.

  212. I love Eminem too.

  213. Dude is fucking lame. Stop using my name bitch and stop using Shady Universe’s name too. Leave us alone

  214. ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!! Yall need to make a permanent name selection Shake/Meka. This shit that’s going on is fucking pathetic.

  215. This fuckin’ sucks.

  216. whats wrong with you people, this is a good song

  217. It’s good… not great. Hopefully it’ll grow on me.

  218. The guitar riff kinda sounds like MuteMath’s “Reset.” Diggin’ it. Keep posting the (2)dope stuff.

  219. ye killed that beat.. jay not memorable.. good look.. roc got the game on smash

  220. Im a Jay fan but I gotta say… sorry hova, Kanye Killed you… the track is dope, “next time im in church please no photos”, damn kanye, i just hope he goes back to rapping on his next album…

  221. Kanye Killed Jay..

  222. And Drake ghostwrote his verse

  223. I agree with the mass Kanye kill Jayz on his own stuff

  224. completely disappointed in this song

  225. wamp wamp.
dont like jays verses at all.

  226. Jay sucks lol

  227. dropshippper.com appreciates all props!

We are looking to create 1,000 new jobs this year!

  228. is it just me or does rihanna’s hook/bridge sound like it needs to be remastered? doesnt sound like the mix is right…ummm anyway this is straight. Not “D.O.A” but he had to be more commercial here to appeal to the pop listeners. At the end of the day, he has to sell records. Still, I sigh…this may be more Blueprint 2 than the original Blueprint.

  234. The guitar riff in Run This Town is taken from here: http://famousblueraincoats.blogspot.com/2009/08/4-levels-of-existence.html

  235. On the real, when I first heard this song it was already on Ye’s part and I thought the song was straight fiyaa..having Jay in the background in parts added to the appeal and Rihanna (annoying voice or not) spelled hit for me.

But when I heard the whole song with the Jay verse, it seemed to lose it’s luster. I was tryna put my finger on it, and I think there’s just this raw, renewed energy that comes out of Kanye that you just don’t hear with Jay. This is just an objective observer’s opinion.

  240. how did kanye kill jay-z on this exactly? that’s just kanye’s style, every other line for him is a punchline

  241. dudes saying ye verse better than hov, 1st off jigga flow was crazy and then to incorporate some real words with the flow makes it magnificent, besides when niggaz know hov to say antthing remotely courney.
