XXL: Do you think fans should hold rappers to those standards of newness? (Talking about Royce spitting a recycled verse on Green Lantern).
Royce Da 5’9: I don’t think people take into consideration what’s going on. Back in the day when I was doing radio with [Eminem], we’d go through the same three or four verses all over the country. Now, the second you say it, it’s video and audio documented on the ’Net, and you can never say it again. Then they bashed Drake for rhyming off his Blackberry at the station. no offense to royce, but memorizing lyrics is part of the reason rappers get higher salaries than people who do physical labor and other “normal” 9 to 5′s. That’s why you have to actually practice your shit, always be writing and keep improving. you can’t just write something once every couple weeks/months and just say “that’s good enough”
jay, nas, and em would probably be able to body them without jesus. but slaughterhouse is it.

they get paid to remember the songs and preform them. the idea of these freestyle is they write soo many of them. then they get one they want to share. i agree with jl but disagree. cause like royce said, the format in which we get our music now, no one will be able to keep up. i suspect thats y u dont get jay freestyles like that no more.
