It’s sad that so many times, folkd are judged on appearance before ability. I’m gonna tell you now… do not let Eyedea’s “look” derive you from the talent this man embodies.
On June 13th Eyedea & Abilities performed their new album By The Throat, which drops 07.21.09 (pre-order from Fifth Element, Amazon & iTunes), for an intimate audience at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis, MN. Each song was prefaced with a short story or an explanation about that song. Michael Gaughan, the artist responsible for the album artwork, did a watercolor painting of the duo while they performed. Not for everyone obviously, but I can appreciate the new music. I’ve always liked E&A. This has even more of a darker tone than some of his previous stuff.
wow its funny how close minded people are these days…. i mean i’m not saying everyone can vibe to this kind of music, but just because you can’t doesn’t mean you can be a dick about it either.
I’ve seen E&A a bunch of times and met Abilities before and he was a real cool guy, but its hard for me to get into Eyedea when he stumbles on stage with bottle in hand and looking like he hasnt showered in weeks. Talent, but nothing like old E&A stuff

I saw an E&A show back in 2001 maybe? Then the next day I saw Eyedea at the local Barnes & Noble, wearing the same clothes he sweated the shit out of the night before. Dude stank, it was gross. He should have been buying fresh t-shirts for the road instead of magazines.
Anyways, glad to see he’s hopped on the EmoRap look. Doubt it will help him sell more records. Eyedea has good lyrics, but Abilities just isn’t the right producer for him; or vice versa. Both are better on their own. Remember that rapper named Sole? Didn’t think so, and that’s probably where Eyeda would be without DJ Abilities tagged on to carry him.
