Drake – ABC News Interview (Video)

ABC News (side note: GTFOH) sat down with the T-Dot wünderkind “to tackle the rumors; is he dating Rihanna, does he feel pressure and why he thinks he can relate to the ‘hood?’ Also, for the first time Drake opens up about his upbringing and tough times with his father.” Meanwhile, that sound you just heard? Me jumping out of my fucking window.

  1. No offense to anyone but is it just me or does Drake look a little down syndrome like?

  2. I always told my people that. Good interview though.

  3. Don’t have anything against Drake. He can spit. But, damn. ABC News? You gotta be kidding me. He doesn’t even have an album out. I swear this affiliation with Wayne has got him so much hype among the mainstream crowd it’s disgusting. I’m gonna be tired of him before he drops.

  4. That sounds like drake to me, a over-hyped piece of shit. Every show has drake on asking him these questions. The View, Regis & Kelly, Larry King, Ellen, Oprah, 360 With Anderson Cooper, Today Show, Jerry Springer, Sally Jesse Raphael, and the list goes on. Guess that what happens when someone promotes/ plugs artists that aren’t that good at all.

  5. Or when other people are fans of a dude you don’t like and folks get to bitchin. You don’t have to listen, let dude have his success.

  6. Hate Hate Hate. I don’t understand why people just can’t be happy for a person that has made it – assistance or no assistance. Every artist in the game has had assistance from someone at some point in their career whether its at the beginning, middle or end. Like 2PAC said “one nigga, teach two niggas, teach three niggas, teach mo niggas!

I guess, Haters Hate and Ballas Ball!

  7. Shake Hilton is going to be creaming in his pants over this new Drake gossip.

  8. where has drake “made it” yeah hes made it onto ABC news etc.. Record deal etc.. But if you really think hes “made it” then your deluded..

  9. …if all this buzz was JUST a product of wayne’s plug, WHY THE FUCK are gudda gudda, t-streets, jae millz, nikki minaj, and the rest of the wayne’s goon squad on ABC news. this is about talent. get over it.

  10. not on abc news**

  11. talent?? Are you tellin me gudda gudda is more talented than a j. Cole because hes appeared on abc news then? Lol… J.cole >>> young money

  12. Meka maybe you should sign with Wayne to get some hype cuz you’re a fucking fool.
You were all over him when he was putting his mixtapes out but now dude got a little successful and you hate like crazy. Drake got buzz, deal with it.

  13. Gudda wasn’t on ABC you dumb shit. what the fuck are you talking about. Alexxx said if its only cuz of Wayne, why is Drake on there and none of those other ass clowns. and why do u mother fuckers always gotta compare so n so to someone else. so u like j cole and hate young money… who gives a fuck. Jay Z < J Cole… see that, how bad is j cole now… he aint no jay z so he must suck then? …. dumbasses

  14. Get this fag out of the USA

  15. and there is the mandatory gay bashing…

  16. read what alexx said.. The comparison is between peers.. Jayz is on a next level in terms of the work hes put in so that comparison is nonsensical… J.cole >>> drake.. are peers.. And futhermore why are you catching feelings your lookin like a drake groupie…

  17. Drake has alot of Stans…truth is there is a such thing as overexposure…ABC News? ya’ll dont think that excessive…soon as this faggot Canadian catches some beef its over for him…he aint gotta crew he aint a real nigga… so he better hope he dont catch no drama..

  18. He didn’t say that Gudda Gudda was on ABCNews, he said WHY THE FUCK isn’t a gudda gudda, a t-streets, a jae millz, a nikki minaj, and the rest of the wayne’s goon squad not on ABC news when Wayne is helping them just like he is helping Drake.

And to answer veraci0us, He has made it to the point that he doing a lot better than us who are he today dicussing this matter on this blog site.

  19. Ayo, I been had hate for Drake. Yall niggas just now starting to get tired of this RnB ass niggas. I been had that hate. ’06? Yeah, a nigga was hatin.

    THIS SHIT RIDICULOUS! ©

  20. lol did this really air on TV?

  21. Yo Gotti

  22. MDPGC with all the hype surrounding drake, i decided to download So Far Gone.. And havin listen to the mixtape i can honestly say apart from Best i ever had, sooner than later, and that november track… The hype is greater than the music.. Just look at the features hes been doin aswell… Not alot to write home about… Drake rnb singer >>> Drake rapper..

  23. the fact is he is a canadian and used to be in degrassi, a hit show for 13 yr old girls. i say fuck him

  24. and u pussies say I complain too much? lmfao, buncha fuckin gossip girls…

  25. @veracious I dont think so far gone was to show how hes progressed lyrically. I think it was just him trying to do something different if you listen to Comeback Season its completely different then So Far Gone.

As for those saying that the buzz about Drake is getting old. If you’ve been listening to him since 2006? Then of course its gonna get old or seem old.

On a sidenote I have no idea why Best I ever had was the 1st single it should of been Successful. I guess they wanted to stick with the female market.

  26. lol @ shake hilton

  27. its boilin in here!

  28. all hate aside, cause im an avid fan, lets look at it realistically; homeboy is half Jewish and lets be honest but all the real legal people and ppl wit say so are jewish, hes canadian which has always led to crossover appeal no matter where the person from as long as it aint here, hard to label.

he must have some great management and super marketting cause he getting wild coverage. he must have tv connects from being on degrassi.
essentially he just in a better position, its like he the quintessential pop artist with hip hop appeal, maybe only for the simple fact that hip hop is suffereing one way or the next the nigga is making a name for himself and money.

  29. @hhrs valid point i might have to give that Comeback Season a listen, so as to have a more balanced view on drake musically.. With that said some of the tracks iv heard drake cameo on like that mary j track have been awful…

  30. yeah I didnt like the Mary J track but the feature on Jamie Foxx’s digital girl was nice. Watch the Conan obrian clip its better then the recorded version

  31. when i hear a drake track somethings missing.. Its like watchin a movie thats audio is out of sync… Maybe its because i think the best music stems from hardship… Thats why i find it hard to buy into a drake…

  32. J. Cole – show me somethin’, J. Cole – Grown Simba… And even when hes got a track about a girls.. J. Cole – Split you up… Listen to them lyrics thats the realness i want..

  33. I mean there’s different kinds of hardship. Growing up in the hood isn’t the only that causes hardship in a persons life. Thats what most people think makes rap sell. Honestly I only listen to rap for the witty lines and the energy but I digress. I’m sure being a 1/2 Jew and 1/2 Black made its own unique set of hardships and on top of that a Jew/Black rapper? Not to mention divorced parents, growing up on TV and I’m sure there’s more that’s just the stuff I know of.

  34. wow..its a catfight in this c section. Drake got peoples panties in a wod, all i want is for an album to come or a nice tape and to not hear “best i ever had” or “every girl” everytime my girl turns on the radio

  35. @veracious
You know what? I always thought that although Drake was humble about his rap skills he still seemed kind of uppity. Never really liked that aspect of him as an artist but that didnt make me not like him yanno? Maybe that’s what it is? The thing that you feels missing. He talks about his version of “hardships” but alotta people cant relate. I know I cant relate cuz I grew up in the hood too with everyone else lol but I been listening to rappers talking about the stuff I see on a daily basis for all my life I guess its nice to hear something different.

  36. oh yeah the J Cole songs were nice though d/l mixtape now

  37. im not talkin bout hood hardship either.. kanye hes not from the hood but had hardship growin up. But what gives him the realness is his subject matter, he will talk about the hardship he went thru in his life. Drake??? Can u list some tracks talkin about his hardship?? I dont want this bubble gum raps about nothing..

  38. for what it is that “sooner than later” track is one of the best rnb tracks iv heard for a long time… That shows me the potential is there, but if ur a drake fan youve got to be concerned on whether the young money tie up wil lead him to just churn out “every girl” tracks.. And not sooner than later tracks..

  39. Meka can’t write a decent sentence in English to save his life.

  40. yeah well you know when an artist is “new” they always go for bubblegum rap because that’s what sells.

  41. its fucking music people love it or hate it… you’re all talking about HIM so he must be something to you faggots. damn so Drake isnt from the hood, who gives a fuck im tired of niggas talking bout rims and rides and groupies. dudes from the hood all talk about the same materlistic bullshit. i sell crack to feed my family. no mother fucker u sell crack cuz ur lazy ass cant get a legit job

  42. @bummer that’s only kind of true. It seems like the guys that “make it” talk about that stuff. Yeah I know its old but it sells so they do it.

  43. yall need to get off the fact that he canadian… iknow some british/french and german rappers that will fuck mc’s up over here…..TY, Dizzee, Sefyu, Jonesmann…..

  44. klashnekoff >>> dizzee.. And its not about where your from its about the message u want to share.. Like i said kanye isnt hood but his message is stil real..

  45. @bummer lmfao at that last line. Really I don’t see the problem with drake and really I will stick up for him, not because I’m a fan but because I grew up in a single parent household and never really knew my dad until i was 16. I never lived in the hood, my mom was in the military, so I never knew what hood life was like until we would visit family that were still in the hood. Don’t get me wrong we still struggled. Not living in the hood doesn’t mean you never struggled or you are not real, to me it’s means you weren’t willing to put in the hard work to make it to middle class america or you aren’t willing to sacrifice for the better of your family. My mom didn’t have flashy things growing up, but she kept me in the best and I always had the lastest and greastest, but I had to do good in school in order to get the things my mom brought me. To get a better understanding of what i’m trying to say google “the other suge knight knockout” where jay smooth is talking about how far “KEEPING IT REAL” will get you life. The main reason why jay-z is still relevant he adapted.

  46. …i’m just saying…he coulda been on his r&b over on Roc Nation with a slew of great caliber artist…now he’ll be slangin’ cheap punchlines and rappin bout “hoes and bitches and rollin with some killa niggas” …sigh. where’s good…sense when you need it cause if mack && nicki && all them niggas aint dropped yet, you think you go first cause you got buzzed? He did the same to everyone else.

but roll on, lil nigga…roll on…

  47. I want to say Drakes’ deal doesn’t rely that much on young money as some may think. True the rest of them niggas will never come out, Wayne using them niggas and exploiting their talents. If young money is smart they will put him out while he has buzz, they make more money that way while he still has a buzz. I think it was the worst move to ever sign with young money. Who runs young money? Wayne does and to me he is a good rapper, but will never make it as a CEO. Drake should have signed to Cash Money they are putting artist out…look at kevin rudoplh he isn’t that great but as a rock act he came out before half the people on young money.

  48. “.. and niggas will buy it too and say they got it for they sister”. Growing up, all the rock kids would hate their favorite band once they went mainstream. I always looked at it as foolish, but realize I do the same. Drake is talented, and nice. He makes great music. It’s just too over saturated and losing the edge that made me appreciate in the first place!
However, we all have to respect his craft and wish him success, because he is representing for our generation well. So what if he is not a “hood nigga”, that wasn’t what hip-hop and its predecessors were created to be – hood nigga shit! Haters hate on a buy the album. Support good music. I certainly will be checking for it!

  49. Fuck Drake.. he’s getting too much hype and attention..
I can already tell his album is gonna suck cause he’s with Young Money and they commercial as hell..

    J. Cole, Wale, KiD CuDi >>>>> Drake

  50. He’s not over-saturated. Keri Hilson is over-saturated.

  51. drake is just “acting” out the rapper part….dudes softer than a pillow….fuck outta here drake sucks dick. side note:dude has the longest neck hes a weird looking muh’fucka.

  52. That picture makes him look Jay-Z’s camel son.

As for him, Drakes music never got, UnDope. It’s just that we are all so damn possessive of someone who was Underground at first.

I just hate the fact that this mainstream people wont realize how dope he is. Smh, ABC News. I don’t understand where all this Buzz came from.

  53. Co-sign the nigga that said drakes just an actor acting out a rap artist. And he a wack rapper at that. Fuck this drake nigga, He a faggot, And he dont represent T.Dot.

  54. ..i wish u bitch niggas would stop whining bout sum1 ‘hating’…yall sound like females..

  55. sooooo apparently having daddy issues makes you from the hood. Thanks for clearing that up, Drake.

  56. Fuck the hood. Ohh and fuck street cred! Stick to your fake ass Rick Ross, Gucci mane bullshit. Even though I’m not a big fan of Drake, I respect how he’s coming up in the game and getting his shine on. I see how people dick ride per say artist when they’re underground but the minute they blow up, fuckers are quick to criticize. It’s like Hater mania in the C section!

  57. i don’t like Drake’s music.

  58. oh..and lol @ having divorced parents being “hood”..i live in da suburbs and alotta my niggas parents is divorced..so r they “hood” even if they live in da burbs?

  59. Dont forget about the little people drake!!! LOL

  60. Bout to enforce some c-section rules/break it down for y’all mothasuckas.

First off, all hate towards Meka/Shake is irrelevant. If you don’t like them why are you on their site and making them look better by giving them more comments on posts? Some of y’all need lives.

To all the people comparing Drake to J. Cole that is so wack. As soon as one new dude comes out, everyone jocks them, calls them the savior/the best, then hates as soon as the new guy comes out. Build up, just to destroy. You clowns are disgusting.

If you guys want to really insult a dude, please listen to the music so you can have valid claims. I swear half of y’all frequent these sites more to pop-off e-lip in the comment section rather than actually listen to the music. Drake’s songs of struggle: about 1/2 of Comeback Season, go back to Room for Improvement, and Lust For Life, Successful, Say What’s Real off So Far Gone.

And lastly, Drake is in this position because he is talented and has a talented team around him. Currently he’s managed by Hip-Hop Since 1978 (go to wikipedia if you don’t know about them) and he’s always had a solid team around him (October’s Very Own & web team). Dude had a plan, was growing from project to project, and probably has cuts better than So Far Gone at his disposal right now.

Some of y’all need to study those who are successful, so you can one day be so yourself, rather than hating in comment sections all day.

    Good day, ladies and gents.

  61. i hope j.cole even comes out with an album….you know how jay is

  62. plus drake is not going to even have young money on the record. probably just wayne. kanye is producing the whole album.

  63. 1. Half the niggas talking about being ‘hood’ and street cred have never been to the hood nor understand what street cred really is.
    2. If you dont like the nigga then dont comment – shit just skip all posts related to him. You guys go outta yall way to comment about how much you hate a guy…
    3. When a dude is underground and on his grind yall niggas love him – yet when a guy finally blows and is trying to reap the fruits of his labor.
    4. People fail to realize that this is a BLOG so if yall dont like something oh fucking well lol.
    5. You dont have to be hood to be a good artist so it shouldnt matter who is hood or not.
Shake and Meka post more than enough music to over look the Drake posts yall cats hatin on.\
The guy went from nothin to somethin. Let him enjoy his hard work…bitches lol

  64. ALl factors come in when you’re talking about drakes hype. On the real, i like the dude’s rapping ability, sure he aint that guccci mane hood shit or w.e the projects play nowadays, but its all w.e because the dude has some talent, as you can see if you actually hear his mixtapes. comeback season shows lyrical ability, room for improvement shows versatility and so far gone to me shows just the musical side of him /melodic style.

i wud say weezy made a smart decision for the time being to have drake on his record, cuz everyone knows the dudes got that buzz, and i respect that as well. if he had a buzz bigger than his potential, then id have a habit to start to hate, cuz as soon as a dude blows up, we all change our opinions about him and all that sish. honestly, let the dude do what he do, his pros gonna get him upto a point and his cons are gonna take him down to a point. what those pros and cons have alreadi been said throughout and are known by those who support him and those who dislike him (im not saying hate, haters is a diff term niggas knowledge yall asses plz)

so iz w.e let the dude do his thing and play his part in the rap game

  65. To the dude talking about Kid Cudi, Wale and J.Cole…I haven’t heard any of J.Cole’s music so I can’t really speak on him, but as Far as Cudi and Wale go, those niggas are real close to mainstream. Cudi was hired by Reebok to perform at an event, in which being a typical nigga had issues cause he wanted to wear J’s to perform (will never understand why people will mess up they money over something so petty). Wale was just on Jimmy Fallon’s show even though it may not have been that big he’s getting major airtime. Then you think these dudes doing performances with Lady GaGa doesn’t go unnoticed? That is how it all starts so sooner or later one of these dudes will be mainstream commercial and are you going to throw them under the bus too? Once again google “the other suge knight knockout” and you will see how far being hood and keeping it real will get you

  66. woooow lmao same dudes(haters) that said drizzy was the next one…SMFH

    fuck y’all hating ass homo’s..

  67. Affluent suburb in Canada?, hardships is the farthest thing he’s been through, most the ppl thats saying it doesnt matter if he’s from the hood are NOT from the hood or have never had to endure what being born into that situation is, sure he canr rap good somewhat, but this hype is just too much..Degrassi my nigga? lets be real here.

  68. WOW. That “the other suge knight knockout” video was one of the smartest hip-hop related rants I’ve ever heard. Must have missed that the first time around.

  69. the bitching continues…..meanwhile……checks are being cut and dudes getting paid.

  70. okay seriously Meka let him have his goddamn success. why you gotta respect him when he releases his mixtapes and shiet, next moment he’s blowin’ up and you gotta disrespect him? Nigga you a narrowminded fucktard.

  71. ..yo i SWEAR u niggas dat consistently say..”ur a hater” “stop hating” “blah hate hate blah hater blah”..sound like females..

  72. I’d consider Drake’s music as “pop.” Not hating just speaking my mind and agreed, J. cole>>>>Drake. If he can sell albums to young girls and white kids, great job. He’s just milking the industry so kudos to him. I Still won’t download his mixtapes though

  73. Drake’s cool, I agree with the nigga that said it feels like somethings missing from his music. I mean, he can sing and string a few good punchlines together, but hes really not saying anything. Shits like that Transformers movie, it’s got a lot of great effects and good action, but in the end, there’s no plot and no way to relate to it, making it unmemorable in the long run.

tbh All great art(music, physical art like paintings and sculptures) that’s lasted for years/decades/centuries is made from hardships like a struggle to survive, bad relationships, oppression, the daily struggle, etc. It has nothing to do with him not being from the hood, it’s the fact that there’s no conflict anywhere in his music. Look at it like a movie….If there’s no conflict in a movie, that shits just boring and a waste of your hard earned money.

  74. “the fact is he is a canadian and used to be in degrassi, a hit show for 13 yr old girls. i say fuck him” <– pure 100% home-made hate.

Now to my opinion. Just wow wow wow at all the comments on this site relating to Drake. I swear probably a year ago you couldnt go on any post on any site without someone comparing the post to drake in some sort of way, calling him the hottest spitting rapper in the game. I can’t believe you little idiots hate on him for factors such as his religious beliefs and nationality? I co-sign all the people who have his discography of work and can see his versatility.

I love how you broke ass little bitches hate on this kid all day erday, meanwhile hes got 4 million dollars from the young money deal alone. Go fuck yourselfs.

  75. He ain’t my favourite rapper either, but in these times…hes a good guy to have coming out.

  76. I hate when people compare artists. Each artist has their own style and I’d love to see the people here talking about how he’s untalented to write some verses that doesn’t sound as lame as 99% of youtube “rappers”. He’s got his fame and every one was on him before he became mainstream. He was from degrassi, so what? It just means he had interests in acting too. His acting has nothing to do with him being a music artist. He talks about hardships in his own way and I’m tired of people thinking the only hardships in life are living in the projects or in “the hood”. Either way, he’s making something of him self and doing more than well at it. Respect him when he’s underground and then hate him when he became what all of his “loyal” fans wanted of him, to be successful. You don’t have to be from the hood to be a good artist. He’s not talking about the hood in his songs. Listen to them before you start bashing his music that you couldn’t write.

  78. WOW. HATERS!

  79. WOW. HATERS!
LET SOME1 BE, HE GOT BUZZ HE GOT BUZZ DEAL WITH IT
    NO1 FORCES U TO LISTEN.
DRAKE RNB OR RAPPER WHO CARES?
HE GETTING MONEY AND UR ON UR LAZY ASS CREATIN DRUMMER ON A BLOGGING WEBSITE. UR COOL -_-

  80. LONGEST. 15 MINUTES. EVAR.

  81. “LONGEST. 15 MINUTES. EVAR.”

    couldn’t have said it better.

  82. everybody who likes drake: congrats, you will get more than enough from him in the next few years. just think, the features on everybody else’s shit cycle is just picking up steam.

everybody who hates drake: congrats, after the next few years he’s going from hip hop to hollywood to get that feature film money and you wont have to wonder whether you’re getting hip hop or r&b when you’re downloading his shit. cuz face it, you are downloading his shit…

  83. i watched it. i listen to every new thing that drops. and i inform my friends. but still the buzz is excessive and it gets annoying. i worry for drake. at one point your buzz gets too big where no matter what you do people will be disappointed. abc news? thats crazy!…. big. a good look. but still. what for?

and all of this isnt off of wayne. other ppl invested in him. he had the whole music industry teaming with him, pushing him. and now that he is pushed just because he stayed with wayne doesnt mean they can pull back. the word is already out. which may have been his plan from the beginning, what he be talking about on his “going in” verse. he playing chess, let you haters hate.

  84. I find it funny that this VERY blog was the one who put me on to Drake, and now they are turning on him, Bloggers are such goofballs, I think Drake’s very talented, I’m gonna continue to follow his music.

  85. GUCCI MANE HAS A POSSE

  86. LMAO

  87. j. cole has been interviewed by abc news… and it was actually before this drake video.
