As much shit I talk about one of my benefactors, every once in a while they come up with some worthwhile stuff. Bojangles Entertainment Television’s website recently dropped this list of 13 mixtapes and indie rap albums every music fan should have in their collection. Peep numbers 5, 6 and 11 also. And since I’m not as good on the PhotoShop game as my partner, I decided to “six degrees of Kevin Bacon” it and toss the lovely Ms. Ford up there. Anybody that can actually get how me & her are somehow intertwined each other (no, seriously) and I’ll send them a pair of kicks. Not really…

gee… i wonder if dre had anything to do with this list? haha.
Wonder why they picked kid from cleveand rather than a kid named cudi
@tony
thats cuz its 2009
>Wonder why they picked kid from cleveand rather than a kid named cudi>
it’s for mixtapes that dropped this year.
Melyssa Ford was in “Knock Yourself Out” with Jada
Jada did a Brandon Edwards interview with HipHopDx
Meka blogs at HipHopDx with Brandon.
I only got the Drake ish…..maybe a few Trey tracks for the ladies to vibe to in the whip.
hook it up wit tha diz and u gotta deal meka :)
double barrel n jay stay paid were on point
It’s hard to give a mixtape a chance if you don’t care much about the artist. Plenty of mixtapes on that list are soooo overrated.
“…I’ll send them a pair of kicks. Not really…”
I love how the Dat Kid From Cleveland mixtape by me and E-V, not even official, makes the list at #9.
/agree with MW
Drake and B.o.B are the only ones on that list with mixtapes that are worth a shit.
Nicki Minaj’s and Trey Songz’ mixtapes are alright, but the rest of that is pure garbage.
relentless ur a dumbass. J-Cole isnt worth a shit?? lmao log off son
The 12 indie albums is what I checked for.
That “Double Barrel” album is crazy slept on. Ordered my copy this past Monday.
J. Cole’s tape was dope. Probably my favorite on the list. and BTTF was good too. Then obviously the Drake and B.o.B.
The Diz mixtape was dope, Drake’s tape is… well we already know that owns some ALBUMS, & Nicki’s shit wasn’t all that bad. The rest of them are like scattered. Wale’s there. Other folk.
Then the albums, I saw DOOM & J Dilla, so lol, all I care about.
BlacksExploitedTelevision needs to stick to mainstream though. I already know my ass isn’t going to see the ALL CAPS video on “The Deal” (whatever time it comes on), so yeah. haha.
@relentless
eh, Back to the Feature was pure garbage? Ok, Ya Right. (c)fiddycent.
I like diz’s tape A LOT.
Tiron needs some love the ketchup was niiice
Half of those are garbage. Couple of good ones tho.
some of these artists are signed to major labels (bobby ray, big sean etc.) but those mixtapes are still dope. i’m really glad they got L.A.U.S.D., TiRon, and Diz on there though.
people are bullshitting, #5-8 on that list are great (j. cole and joell tapes are both still gettin play)
Wale, Drake B.O.B., trey songz, Kid Cudi and Nicki Minaj’s mixtapes were the best out of the 13, i could only play SFG, anticipation and Back to the feature in repeat, but the rest is good. So far Gone is probably the best..its ok ok ok
this shoulda just been top 10. big surprise with the “im friends wih this blog rapper” cosigns blah. if they REALLY believed they were “must have” indie projects they would’ve provided a download link for those who haven’t heard the mixtapes yet. but hey that’s just me.
..WALE made the list..DMV up!
weak list, sof OF COURSE it had to be by BET…smh
back to the feature was cool, sooner or later wasnt as good as the hype, but its still pretty good, the warm up was reaaally forgettable for me, but idk, if that’s what you like, and the joell tape was cool, the rest…..are definitely not “must haves”.
they SHOULDVE had that Laws tape up and Prints Comic Books Unlimited.
Brother Ali & Torae & Marco Polo two of my favorite albums so far this year
I thought cause it was 09, was looking around but missed it I guess. Regardless, awesome.
Gud list for BET standards but dey need to give more info. for each mixtapes/albums (as if they actually listened to at least one song) & missed curren$y, daytona, XV, ESSO, & Rock city
Ketchup was dope. Fuck you for sleeping. I’m still bumping that and UNKNOWBIGSEAN.
I haven’t peeped Dilla or DOOM’s lps yet. Double Barrel and Delightful Bars get mad love in iTunes. oh and why isn’t Brooklynati nominated for Underground Album of the Year?
Im glad Saigon and Statik got some pub! Speakinof dynamic duos, Kurupt and Dj Quik made a heatish album too!
damn shame niggas sleeping on ortiz…covers the classics was the best mixtape of the year. every track was dope, even though it was short
H.O.P.E. – Follow the Leader & Skeme – Skeme of things 2 should have been on this list
i know we all got different tastes, but for me, i like that Novel mixtape, Donny Goines “Breakfast Club” Frank Rams “Falling Up” Jo Well “Welcome To The Jungle, Show TuFli “This Fli Life”, & Outasights “From Here To There. but hey its BET what do they know about hip hop music?
Mixtapes: Whoever didn’t peep the Wale, Joell Ortiz, Cool Kids, Big Sean, J Cole & B.o.B., just GTFOH! They are ALL better than So Far Gone, that sleepy-ass project.
Albums: DOOM’s or Brother Ali’s are arguably the best, J Dilla’s is a given for any hip-hop head, Tanya Morgan’s is dope, Camp Lo’s is enjoyable, Exile’s is an acquired taste but great for an instrumental LP, Torae & MP is slap-you-in-the-face rawness..
I gotta give credit to BET, they hit the nail on the head with most of these lists.
The J.cole tape is by far the dopest IMO…But who the fuck am I!
No “This Ain’t No Mixtape” for indie album of the year? Shove the list right back up your blurry signal ass BET.
They seriously picked NICKI MINAJ I mean damn they could have put XV,Donny Goines,Esso,Outta Sight,Kid daytona,P.SO(Picasso)shit even Fresh Daily ..can you tell im from NY lol but seriously any of those would have been a better pick
how in the world does Fashawn’s “one shot one kill” get overlooked???? He’s killing all these dudes. time will tell when all the dick riders jump on his bandwagon soon.
JAEizF2D, you cant be serious with this comment. That nigga H.O.P.E is straight garbage. Skeme is dope though.
aside from the ones you pointed out looks like they just googled whats ‘hot’ and made a list or whatever.
wouldn’t be so quick to give bet credibility on what’s not mainstream…
how is there no tech n9ne on the independent list?
BIG SEAN’S MIXTAPE SHOULD BE #1

lol yall some fools. half of these artist backed by major labels. go look at who manages these guys u idiots. and who are those managers employed by? hint hint, 2 of the 4 majors. only real one on there is diz gibran and that other dude.
in my opinionated…*ahem*…opinion….
the Drake, B.O.B, Cool Kids, J. Cole, Joell Ortiz and Wale mixtapes are dope! The others…either I’ve just found out about about…or don’t really care for.
as far as albums…Jay Stay Paid is prolly just for Dilla fans, but still dope. Saigon and Glass Joe are overrated IMO…Brooklynati is niiiiiice…DOOM is cool…that Double Barrel is a sleeper hit!!! Everything else I have yet to listen to.
this is the kind of list yall should send to the youngins…let em know what’s really good with hip-hop nowadays!
as far as albums….
I thought the last was mad decent. Ive heard 90% of it and agree that the J. Cole tape was the dopest.
Why wasn’t Laws- Your future favorite rapper on that mixtape list. That was a great one
as far as mixtapes how could rhymefest the manual not be on the list easily the mixtape of the year and albums where is finale’s album at. the only cd better than that was double barrel. but they seriously fucked up by not putting rhymefest on that list.
and rudy is right also that laws mixtape is dope
I just heard TiRon’s Ketchup mixtape. Shit is dope.
only ones i didnt have were TiRon, Minaj and Curly Tops… ill probably cop em
^ yeah same here. IDK, if I wanna check that Minaj Mixtape.
i dont know if those are the best 13 this year… but it’s a decent list. i got a lot of those tapes. its a step in the right direction to say the least

This list was actually on point..
And thanks to the 2dopeboyz i have them all
i paused when i saw u posted this
Tanya Morgan – Brooklynati is better than any release here…
The list was on point. Good to see LA cat’s on the list. TiRon & Diz doing it big.
no one even mentioned TYGA – The Potential yet? damn that tape should be up there.
bigzizzo is right, that Rhymefest tape is fire. Easily >>>> Nicki Minaj any day of the muh-fuggin WEEK
The list is a dissapointment how can they not incluse “A Love Supreme” by U-N-I
^ that shit wasn’t that good. Average at best.
…….i like a love supreme.
the drake and J.Cole mixtapes were dope. everything else on that list was trash.
WHERERS HOLLYWEEERD?????????
A love supreme wasn’t great. It was aight at best.
Serius Jones “Why So Serius” shoulda been on the mixtape list.
That shit is dope.
j cole is dope… real dope.
really, not one mention in yalls comments about how dope that Illogic album is? yall sleepin? check the rhymes, bar for bar this kid can run with the best of ‘em. then ya man Ill Poetic on the beats…sick. come on, wake up!
