If he really said that, he only said it cuz he doesn’t want to say it early then it gets pushed back however many times then lose anticipation. He’s doing what T.I. did last year but T.I. failed to finish the album. Lupe’s album is pretty much 100% now.

Read my post. He’s only saying December so if things look right following the success of Shining Down and another single it’ll get pushed up. Might get pushed up before the next single. He doesn’t wanna say September or October then it gets pushed back and were all pissed off and have to wait longer. By now the album is done. As of June 16th it was 95% finished. Hell, this album was already supposed to be out this month and another in December so what I said makes sense. He wants to get off Atlantic asap and is taking the safe route by announcing a ridiculous date for the album.
Just cuz Biggie’s considered great and only has 2 albums doesn’t put Lupe there too. Bad rationalization…& Biggie’s not even in my top 50, just my opinion.

Lupe looks like the famous Jett Jackson
Lupe’s dope, nothing too special. There’s all kinds of cats that are just as good or better. He’s just the mainstream “conscious” rapper of the moment that seems to get a bigger push than a lot of other cats that don’t happen to be in the right place at the right time.
His albums are alot better than 99 percent of other conscious rappers, that is what makes him special. Most concious rappers just do your typical hip-hop album, Lupe actually pushes boundaries between genres.
its hard to call him top 3 DOA right now, but i would definitely say that out of anyone right now he has the potential to be there one day….shining down is insane, im stoked to hear LASERS whenever it drops.
If Lasers sounds like the last two albums, lupe will actually turn into a new age Talib and Mos. Shinning Down seems a little too “Superstar” too me, looks like lupe wants to go directly comercial now. Oh well, I say CRS should of stayed alive and released before Lasers
I called Lupe in the Top 3 DOA when I first heard the brother.
That’s just me though. I give props where props is due. I think there is always so many stupid stipulations people put.
And I hate when a very underrated rapper, in which Lupe was considered for a while (SO MANY PEOPLE SLEPT WHEN I PLAYED THEM THE FARENTIHT Mixtapes and “Food and Liquor”. People didn’t get on him until Superstar), and then when they finally get not even half of their recognition and notice, people want to start calling them overrated all of a sudden . That’s the same that happened with Drake. Dude was out since 2006 and was dope…but no one gave him play. Then he messes with Wayne, becomes the greatest thing since sliced bread and people say he’s overrated.
Lupe Fiasco is definitely up there and I’d say he’s a better rapper than Biggie any day. Most of you guys probably don’t even understand his music to realize. I’m telling you, when I heard him, ever since then, other rappers seemed like they were not bringing their fullest potential. Their lines all of a sudden sounded too simple.
Lupe is a driving force because he has the mainstream appeal with the message inside it. Granted there are plenty of the underground cats who spit some of the same knowledge, the difference is most of them have that purist mindset and want to stay underground, therefore not reaching the masses like they could. That’s their loss.
That’s just my two cents…and then some.

Shining Down is beyond Superstar dude. 2 different subjects and that commercial shot you gave was bullshit. If you’ve even heard the song where he uses autotune for a few bars then states “Now if you autotune that shit, we can hear the songs from opera groomed fat bitch” you wouldn’t be saying that shit. Lupe is keeping it 100. He ain’t down with that autotune trend whether Kanye is his boy or not. He’s above all that shit aka Shining Down aka one of the best in the game right now. Shining Down = #5 on the manifesto if you’ve bothered to read it.

Kanye using the autotune to me is not the same as any other rappers or singer using it. It wasn’t used in the same vein. It wasn’t for a gimmick. He wasn’t making hip hop or R&B music. It was more like 80s pop, minimalist, and soft rock. It also had a substance and subject matter.

Yeah that was for Dolce and I see where you coming from with Kanye but at the end of the day, 808s was horrible by the usage of autotune and the different genre direction he took. I’ll drop my two cents real quick:
Personally, imo I feel that Lupe is the greatest rapper of all-time. People put a lot of stipulations into account for that kinda title (lyrics, subject matter, concepts, creativity, longevity, discography, etc.) and Lupe has all of that except for the longevity.
Biggie was only around for a few years and dropped two LPs and to this day people call him the greatest to ever do it. Lupe has 5 discs of new material (his 3 mixtapes and 2 studio albums) and most, if not all, of the material is quality and classic.
Dude never sleeps when it comes to the bars (he has YET to drop a whack verse, which few emcees can do over a career) so if he continues to drop quality albums/material before he retires, give him the crown, but personally I don’t think there’s many that can touch him on the mic.

I don’t have a top list cause I’m not obsessed about it but Lupe is definitely 1 of my favorite artists who I would listen to on the regular.
Lupe is great not just because of the wordplay and the substance and the theme and the incredible long winded metaphors (like The Instrumental) but also the storytelling. The song The Cool on F+L is so ridiculous, you can’t write stuff like that if you’re not on some kind of Stephan King level. The Cool the album is themed, ha it’s almost unfair to compare the album with other rap CD’s cause it’s so far above that. Listen to Dumb it Down, the listen to the theme tracks on The Cool, then listen to The Cool, then tell me that the story telling mixed with impeccable style and flow doesn’t put him up in the top 10 at least by itself.
You add in tracks like Failure, Mean and Vicious, Switch, and Make Sure, from his mixtapes?? People who say Lupe isn’t top ten don’t get what he’s saying.
And if you don’t get chills on “hustler for death no heaven for a gangsta”….then idk what to say
