As July 7th approaches… Cage releases another joint off his upcoming album, Depart From Me, which you can pre-order here. After giving the album a listen I was taken back (expectantly) by the amount of rock influence in his music; but after a few listens I’ve grown to really appreciate the work he put into it. This is also coming from someone who listens to rock on a regular basis; so it’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s a good album regardless.
The follow-up to Hell’s Winter, his 2005 critically-acclaimed LP, Depart From Me continues Cage’s musical saga of a no-holds-barred, brutally autobiographical journey through his past and present. Plagued by abuse, institutionalization, drugs, and violence throughout his life, these nightmarish experiences have permeated his art and defined the music he makes today. Cage’s music is truly reflective of a reality far stranger than fiction.

(II) on that artwork damn
Dope artwork! This track is nice definetly gon be lookin out for da album. This is the rock dat i can fuck wit
what is [II] worthy at the artwork? you’re reaching for a pause dude. smfh…
I wasn’t feeling “I Never Knew You” first listen, but I had admittedly just skimmed through it. Then I threw in my ipod and it came on days later and I was like “Damn who is this?” Definitely digging this! Thanks for posting!
“Cause when I drop this solo shit it’s over with
I bought Cage’s tape, opened it, and dubbed over it” – Eminem
A shake quick question. Is there more of a rock influence on this or a pos album? Pos is the shit but I don’t look at cage in the same light.
The irony at posting that tired eminem quote is that cage has matured as a musician while em is still making tired, childish shock rap over a decade later. Dude is truly lost as are his fans who still eat his exhausted, accented act up yet diss a growing cage in the same breath.
hey shake!!!
u like linkin park ?
this song is dope, just like most of the EP. I’m getting pumped for this when it comes out. I feel confident it will be better than Hells Winter.
GP
ill shit on the artwork, but i’m anticipating that KAWS album art on “Till’ the Casket Drops”.
This is one of those albums that will grow on you with more listens, although I’ve always felt that if a song is good you should like it the first time you hear it, not the 4th or 5th, if its a banger, you’ll know on the first listen, unless you aren’t actually listening.. ppl just gotta get used to the fact cage has changed, for better or worse is only opinion, opinions that hold O weight, and this particular song is still pretty annoying to me, even after hearing it so many times.
And I enjoy rock music as well.
Check the vid on his myspace where he admits this album is meant to appeal to 12 yr olds, its obvious the heads who have followed him since his first commercial verse in 93 may not be feeling this too much, because they are 30+ yrs old, and are used to dudes original style.
Fanatic Cage will always be better than Frantic Cage.
Except maybe for those who just heard of him yesterday.
If he hadn’t changed his ways he would be dead sooner than you think, then there would be no more new cage music, so long live cage!, and just as long as some of his songs are still listenable, which some certainly are, its all good. He deserves to finally make some loot, after so many yrs makin music, any way he can, sure some are against it, but just imagine laying down all them tracks for all them yrs and never really gettin the shine you deserve..
