And all your little kids is doin is gettin’ bigger
You tryin not to raise ‘em around these wild niggas
Beef is when a gold digger got your seed in her
A manicured hand out like “pay me nigga”
    Or I’m tellin’ your wife
Or startin’ up some foul rumor that’ll ruin your life

    Artist: Jay-Z
    Album: Reasonable Doubt
    Song: D’Evils
    [Verse One]
This shit is wicked on these mean streets
    None of my friends speak
We’re all trying to win, but then again
Maybe it’s for the best though, cause when they’re seeing too much
You know they’re trying to get you touched
Whoever said illegal was the easy way out couldn’t understand the mechanics
And the workings of the underworld, granted
Nine to five is how to survive, I ain’t trying to survive
I’m trying to live it to the limit and love it a lot
    Life ills, poison my body
I used to say ‘fuck mic skills’
And never prayed to God, I prayed to Gotti
    That’s right it’s wicked, that’s life I live it
Ain’t asking for forgiveness for my sins, ends
I break bread with the late heads, picking their brains for angles on
all the evils that the game’ll do
It gets dangerous, money and power is changing us
And now we’re lethal, infected with D’Evils..

  4. How fucking magnificent would that be?! I feel like these superstars should be put to the test. Unfortunately since a loss could hurt sales it’ll never go down. Specially since the dudes Mos wants on his team don’t sell half as much as the people he generally mentioned would be on the opposing team. It’s great business move for the ones who sell less, but a no brainer to avoid for the ones who sell more. What he’d need to do is build a super duper hype about it so the people sitting high on their horses would HAVE to defend their title versus choose whether or not they accept the challenge. In other words like be a lil like ALI was back in the day.

  5. lets pray

  6. ^ Ameen to that ! This would be a major step for civic engagement in the hiphop community

    http://www.zshare.net/download/61168843594b0d84/

  7. OOORRRRRR, be super underground, not televised, no cameras, no cell phones allowed in the arean, no reporters almost like the movie Blood Sport, or any other movie that centers around some secret tournament. lol like Mortal Kombat.

Yeah, that way the MC’s would know and a selected few people in the stands would know and word of mouth would have to do the rest. I can’t see it really happening any other way.

  8. Mos is my dude, but come on this shit ain’t gonna ever happen. I mean props to the whole idea, a well throught out one from the sounds of it(note he didn’t have Talib in his crew, just sayin). But no one is ever and yes I did say ever gonna be able to get a group of major artist to do a battle type event like this. That’s stuff you do when you on the come up to prove yourself and get your foot in the door. When you made it, their’s way to much at risk to lose if you were to get a lyrical beating by someone with not even half the fame as you.

Great I did and it would be ridiculous if it was ever pulled off, but I’m not hold my breath.

  9. This shit would be insane. Great idea. Rappers need to do more shit liek this. Prove yourself, and make money for charity while doin it.

    Can Nas freestyle?

Mos, Black Thought, Doom, Jay Electronica, Nas
Jay, Talib, Andre 3000, Skyzoo, and then Jada or AZ

I can’t think of a better lineup to go against Mos Def’s crew. Maybe Ras Kass.

  10. ^ mosyoumyduebutrally ? haha i know we need this this like Wrestle Mania back in the day Hulk Hogan Vs. Ultimate Warrior

You know hiphop like the WWF ?

    Kush/piff music
    http://www.zshare.net/audio/61045238dae236a3/

  11. Well if Mos is gonna just jack Nas….if I was Jay I would pick

    1) Royce da 5′9″ or Talib Kweli
    2) Common
    3) Kanye
    4) Ghostface Killah

  12. I dont know Jay’s situation with any of them^ but Im just saying that would be the team I would pick…

  13. Redman could get in on this too. I could see him doing it.

  14. I would like to see Weezy, and no i am not a fan i respect but that’s his home turf

    http://www.zshare.net/audio/610849649d89fd66/

  15. Oh man, how could I forget Royce and Crooked. They’re definitely on the level for this. Throw in Eminem. Skillz, Immortal Technique, Masta Ace.

So I got, Jay, Royce, Crooked, Em, SKillz, Technique, Masta Ace, Ras Kass, Redman, Talib, Az, Jada, 3000, Freeway, Lupe and Skyzoo as people that could go against Mos Def’s crew. Fuck, just make it 4 crew’s and have em all go at it

  16. I’d like to see PackFM in Jay’s crew…he’s hot as hell

  17. ^ @ eskaywyzee o o word.. it’s really up to the fans to continue to talk about it.. Hiphop Culture this is the moment to seize ? Especially we are riding the wave of Obama’s election his work is at a government level, this is an opportunity for the people to make it WORK at the grass root level.. By having the blogs, forums, internet the hood, subrubs just stir up the hype for this EPIC BATTLE..

MOS IS KEEPING HIPHOP THE ESSENCE ALIVE WITH A BATTLE ?

    Where you bars @ ?

    http://www.zshare.net/audio/6108470463aaa734/

  18. Instead of crews, why don’t they battle individually?

  19. Or, all of them make a super group with all those rappers named- now that would be insane. Make a fucking album together n shit.

  20. @ ^ vishal word.. and donate the proceeds to chairty ! Thats how it’s done ! Mos is Muslim ! The deen is in him ! Umi Says !

  21. what is the symbol on hes head!? …

  22. For this to happen, rappers…and more telling, BLACK people…would have to cooperate and work together. And that my friends, sadly just doesn’t happen.

btw, MillionDollaMindz…the Beef line from Mos should be:

“Beef is Weldon Irv not being here with me” not “Beef is more than Irv not being here with me”

    respect

  23. that would be awesome. but why the hell wouldnt usa be in the bboy battle??? usa has some of the best bboys. I wonder if Jay will address this? or kanye. every one says this would never happen.. shit all the money these men have, dont be surprised.

  24. It wont happen..and most likely the others on jay side are Wayne/TI/Jeezy.

We all know Mos called them out in that video that came out a couple months back..

  25. ok maybe it eont happen, i doubt it too but it would be nice. there is this bboy battle in germany called IBC: all vs all, there are no judges and everyone has to battle everyone. no announced winner. so in the end it creates a debate about who won. that would be great if they did that, why does Mos want a team??? one on one would be better.

  26. ^ that’d be nice

  27. Jay should go the safe route and pick young cats to go up against those (semi?) underground rappers. The bigger artists have too much to lose (and most likely will lose).

Mos, Black Thought, MF Doom, Jay Electronica & Nas
    vs.
Jay, Kanye, J. Cole, Wale & Mickey Factz

    I can see it now.
Winner gets to battle Slaugtherhouse and gets murdered by all 4 of them.

  28. @The Kid CK Look at Mos’ rost…. they would murder damn near any combination that Jay could come up with. I doubt that even Slaughterhouse could take down Mos’ team. These are lyricists that are on avid hip hop fans’s Top 10 Lists for a reason…

  29. For those who may not remember Jay called out Nas on Angie’s show with a similar proposal, one one one, mano y mano, PPV event rap battle with the proceeds going to the winner’s favorite charities. How did that turn out? It didn’t. The commercial interests of both dudes and their labels got in the way and the business smarts of both men saw this new “rap beef” publicity as an opportunity to cash in. It still pains me being a Queens native myself that Nas did a deal with Jay after stompin’ that ass! Just my 2 cents.

  30. dont forget Soldier Boy vs Charles Hamilton…lol

  31. I be in Mississippi during Christmas time. If it went down, I be there.

  32. niggas are delusional

  33. Is he refering to Joe Budden?

  34. Why does Hip Hop always have to be a competition, man, DAMN!
It’s music, and just let it be.
MCs always battling and shit, fuck that.
Just make some music and lets live with it.

  35. Awww Damn, Gina.
This battle concept should happen. Jay’s talking about charity work a lot; he should jump in on this. Nas can make it double. I’d pay boku dinero to see dude “have a little fun” again.

  36. that nigga said Slaughterhouse LMAO
    get outta here..

  37. Jay Electronica fucks with Hov too..Mos living in a fantasy worl create his own team

  38. YO!
    Jay should DEFINITELY pick slaughterhouse.
Royce and Crooked can take Mos and his crew together. Joell just adds to it.
And Buddens is the icing on the cake [II].

  39. @Superslim64

elect been fucking with Mos long before Hov homie, and it’s all love both ways regardless.

As for it the battle going down? It’s not. Too much BS in the way

and for the dude who said “MC’s always battling ” and should stop or w/e……STFU that’s what “MC’s ” used to do and should get back to doing it

  40. i would pay to see it jay should pick a bunch of battle rappers like serious Jones, iron solomon, jin and millz he wont loose for sures

  41. i’d pay $100+ too watch this. it’d be a great idea but the famous rappers are too pussy too accept. probably scared to tarnish there name.

  42. Jay’s team would be the simplest team ever
    1. Kanye
    2. Diddy
    3. Siegel
    4. and lets say something really random kike CuDi

  43. Mos, Black Thought, Jay Electronica, DOOM, and Nas vs Jay, Eminem, Common, Andre 3000, Wayne

    Id pay to see that

  44. kanye will never fit, he is just not a battle rapper

  45. I’ll go by who I believe Jay will actually pick.

    1. ‘Ye.
    2. Drake (his new underling)
    3. Mickey Factz
    4. J. Cole
    5. Wale

    @ Dee.
It’s not competiton if it’s for charity and just for fun.

Rappers better accept. They just better.
That will be my first airplane flight, ever, if it does happen.

  46. Jay might also pick Lupe.

I do hope this does down. Mos should really devote the rest of the year or however long this will take to plan this. Seriously.

    That’ll be the new renaissance.

  47. You gotta consider what type of “battle” it would be. Would they just be battle rapping, trying to see who can come up with the hottest freestyle disses? Or would it be a competition to see who can drop the hottest 16s off the top of the dome? I’d rather see the latter. Cuz being able to diss somebody in a freestyle don’t make you a dope rapper. *sidebar* Don’t wanna see Wayne in there. I’d rather see Ludacris fill that spot

  48. Swizz v. West for battle of the beats?
    c’mon guy.

it would have to be Just Blaze vs. either:

    1. DJ Premier
    2. Timbaland
    3. Pete Rock
    4. Flying Lotus
    5. Madlib
    6. Black Milk
    7. the nigga who “stole” DJ HouseShoe’s laptop
with all of J Dilla’s music.
    8. Danja

    —a dying metaphor–

  49. and to be totally honest
as far as battle for best rapper would have to be

Jay-Z, Mos Def and a crack team of anybody they can get
    vs.
    Lupe Fiasco

    that’s what i said mufucka.

    —a dying metaphor—

  50. Team Jay……Jay, Andre 3000, Lupe, EM, Joe Budden

  51. Man! Now THAT would be dope! Battle of New Orleans would be epic! But of course, no “big-time” rapper would sign-on for this. They would get MURKED and lose SO much street credibility, not to mention the amount of popularity that they’d lose and could effectively ruin their careers. Jay Z would be interesting, certainly would get a lot of people interested. But we all know that Jay Z, Kanye West, Ludacris, etc. are SCARED of such a proposition. They’re no longer part of what they represent. They’re part of the institution/system of the “professionals”, like governments and corporations and the justice/police system. If they IGNORE the threat to their credibility, then the public will ALSO ignore it because the public, sadly, are SHEEP and LIl Wayne, Kanye, etc. are the SHEPHERDS. But if they DISS or pay ANY attention to it, then people start asking questions and then a REAL revolution can occur. But for now, we’re stuck on that “new” rap aka “shoes/cars/women/parties/money/swag/drugs…” sounds the same, don’t it? Funny how REAL EMCEEs, like Cannabis, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and others, don’t get the credibility they deserve, while the likes of DRAKE (FOR GOD’S SAKE, he’s had EVERY DOOR OPEN FOR HIM and SO MANY PEOPLE PRAISE HIM… FOR WHAT?!!!!) and Lil Wayne (early on, he was great, and now, he’s lost himself) get people on their nuts for essentially jizzing on the public’s face.

Sickest team: Cannabis, Mos Def, Black Thought, Doom, Nas.

    DONE… NO ONE has a chance….

MAYBE if Rakim & Slick Rick pulled up to the plate, but even then, their style is so much different, that it’d be a little difficult to judge. I just hope SOMETHING like this happens.`

  52. He said France vs. Korea for breaking.
    That is 100% correct.

  53. Doom and blackthought would handle ANYONE

  54. We should hold off and see if any other rapper who he mentions actually has something to say before we get in the credibility. Black Thought already said he’d be down. That just leaves…

    everyone else.

  55. not even crews…just a big fuckin battle…we can dream right?

  56. tournament style

  57. Yo i agree with flip the beats should be premo vs just blaze.(would be so crazy) And Jiggas team should like this

    1. Talib Kweli
    2. Lupe Fiasco
    3. Andre 3000
    4. Wale

Would be the sickest show ever

  58. Jay Elec>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

  59. Kweli is a glarring omission But how is Mos Not picking Pharoahe Monch and has DOOM on his team? We don’t even know if the “real” DOOM will show up. Jay-Z team is Jada,Eminem,Segal and Wezzy (If T.I. is still locked up) Although Jay picking Talib would be interesting.

  60. shy had some nice points up there ^^

any team with black thought is like an automatic win. id love to see slaughterhouse in this because thats the only team that would pose a threat.

Slaughterhouse + Murs would make a nice 5

  61. Andre 3000 dont freestyle though. I saw him turn down the booth on Rap City before, cause he said he was a writer. I think hes out.

  62. @ RDOUBLE.

are you telling me that MF DOOM would send an impostor, to deal with OTHER RAPPERS. I don’t even think that is conceivable. DOOM would show up to rap with his peers.

& why are we acting like The leaders get like the overruling, “YOUR ON MY TEAM” finger. haha.

Slaughterhouse + Method Man, the end for my lungs from laughing at the irony.

  63. Wha bout 9th wonder for beats and mc’s like little brother rapper big pooh and phonte and don’t even forget tha whole justice league there is like 20 mc’s in that group alone that will beat any big name hip hop artist

  64. Mos, Black Thought, MF Doom, Jay Electronica & Nas

    vs

    Jay, 3000, kanye, drake, weezy

    That would be INSANE

  65. Woah woah…Grambling vs Morgan St. for battle of the bands??? He must have left out FAMU so that the other bands would have a chance of winning.

  66. jay-z should get kanye lupe 3000 and wayne

just so we can see if wayne really got that would be hot tho i still put my money on jay

  67. Why the fuck are people even bringing up Wayne and Kanye?

And Drake? Come on now. Who the FUCK could Drake see out of Mos’s crew? You guys are fuckin trippin with some of these lists. Unless Jay-Z was on his Reasonable Doubt tip, he’d get destroyed too.

And like Talib would really be on the crew that is against Mos Def. I’m surprised Mos didn’t pick Talib, i think he should replace Nas with Talib.

  68. flesh this out and make it happen….like seriously. i dont even care how much tickets would be….and of course lupe gotta be on dat roster.

  69. ^^to steve, no lie on the weezy, drake, ‘ye ish….they can be in the crowd like erybody else. and yeah jay(z) definitely gonna need to step it up.

  70. Please make this happen! This would do so much for hip hop music, and the community being it’d be a charity event.
