Its not a sample though, I think its Dilla redoing the song with all his own instruments.
He did that a lot late in his career. Make a beat and then recreate his beat using his own external instruments.
Which is awesome if you are a producer, its a great feeling to figure out the musical fabric of an old song like “Lonely People” and then do your Jazz rendition replaying the whole thing on some Hip Hop beat.
