Danger Mouse’s New Project is a Blank CD-R?

Earlier today while I was getting my head vacuumed out (long story) I started getting a bunch of emails about Danger Mouse’s latest project. I was confused as to why folks were hitting me up like I didn’t know because I was sure I made a post about it already. Turns out I set the wrong time for it to go up. Post schedule FAIL haha. Anyways…

Danger Mouse’s new project, Dark Night of the Soul consists of an album length piece of music by Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse and a host of guest vocalists (James Mercer of The Shins, The Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Frank Black of the Pixies, Iggy Pop, Nina Persson of The Cardigans, Suzanne Vega, Vic Chesnutt, David Lynch, and Scott Spillane of Neutral Milk Hotel and The Gerbils), along with a collection of original David Lynch photography inspired by and based on the music.

As someone prone to the music industries politricks (Grey Album anyone?) DM was unable to release the recorded music from Dark Night of the Soul without fear of being sued by EMI. But does that stop one of the dopest producers doing it? Of course not! Instead of taking the L, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse decided to release the project as a blank CD-R; which comes with limited edition art book that contains over 100 original photographs from film directed David Lynch. Doing so, frees them of any legal issues and lets the fans burn the music themselves as the album has already leaked on the internets (you can stream it here as well). If you’d like to purchase the blank disc with artwork; and book ($50); or poster ($10)… you can head over to DNOTS and do so. I did.
