Another leak off Dilla’s posthumous album, Jay Stay Paid, which drops June 2nd on Nature Sounds. The other day I had a rather interesting email convo with a fellow dopeboy and he seemed to be pretty upset about this whole release. What do ya’ll think? Are posthumous releases good or bad? This question stems solely from the intentions of the release; not the quality of the music.

i agree it should be a strictly dilla tape, what people do with it from there is up to them
actually pete rock & ma dukes oversaw the whole record so nothing random there. ask anyone close to dilla and he would have been amped to have havoc & rae on one of his beats.
i understand the purists want it to be dilla’s vision, but the album is mostly instrumental. i think they only have 5 vocal tracks and one of them is illa j.

^^there’s actually about 10 tracks with guest appearances but yea. that was my argument to dude… his own MOTHER executive produced the project while one of his biggest musical inspirations oversaw the music direction. thank you!

Man that Dilla “fan” seemed very disgruntled over nothing. Who cares who’s featured on the album and who cares what the album cover looks like, it’s all bout the beats. Besides, someone on deviantart made those pictures many months ago, way before the announcement of J$P was even made. So it’s not like they were intended to be album covers in the first place.
Get over yourself and just be thankful that you have ears to hear Dilla’s beautiful music…

I think I’d rather have instrumentals myself, but I can’t be mad at this album. We all knew this would happen with the amount of time Dilla spent making beats over the years. I guarantee he has thousands of more beats chilling in his mom’s basement right now.
