…on the list of albums that have changed hip hop. Big words. I can’t say I agree but I have a feeling a slew of the c-boys will come out of hiding and say that Steve has lost his mind. Regardless of if they have even listened to the album themselves. Gotta love the (blind deaf) hate. Asleep in the Bread Aisle, 4/20… get it!
Hip Hop, Video

cmon shake.
REALLY?
FUCK.THAT. SHIT!
don’t have to listen to the video or the album to know thats a ridiculous statement
ummmm…. that’s probably the dumbest thing i have ever taken in while on the internet… and that is saying A LOT
yo listen to the album may not be top 5 but this shit delivers. Personally I’m sick an tired of calling shit top of all time. You can’t compare a album from 96 to a album in 09. Its like when people will say right now Lebron is better then bird. Maybe hes got a lot of potential but bird did it his history is cemented and hes with stood the test of time. So to call AIBA top you making a hugeee over statement to many other rap albums can out way before this shit and have done way more for the community of hip-hop. As far as great music hell yea probably going to be the best album coming form that group of xxl kids. SEE ME
top 5 that changed hip hop. I respect your op, shake, but to even half co-sign that marketing gimmick of a statemen…….
Its really no country for old heads anyway. Rifkind’s a fossil
wow….did he even listen to the album??
the album is very sub-par
i didnt cosign anything.
No, I did bump it expecting greatness but was disappointed.
Steve Rifkin new job….comedian/marketing gimmick/….try harder. Check Bol’s review
http://www.byroncrawford.com/2009/04/asher-roth-asleep-in-the-bread-aisle-album-review.html
agreed
where the This Aint No Mixtape co-sign, ppl still sleepn on curren$y?
5/5 best album so far this year
its just an opinion, shake. Or not can be taken either way, but again its just an opinion. Personally i think it a fucked up statement to make, forgive my sentiment, but this shit is like reverse emancipation proclamation. Dude, and ALL HIS STUFF, ia just a TAD above average AT BEST. live and let spit is one thing, that statement to me is why old guards inevitably should pass the torch.
More Grey Hairs
All In a Day’s Work
bold statement indeed. but i haven’t heard the album so i can’t really talk.
It’s a good album.
I’ll buy the retail version.
You’ve got to make bold statements to create discussion, so whether you agree or not… Rifkind did his job!
K’Naan’s Troubadour was my favorite rap album, this year… hell, it’s been my favorite album of any genre in 2009.
yall are trippin, this album is good as shit. ashers crossover appeal might be better than em’s. hes a very relatable dude with as much or more talent than anyone in the game.
top 5 this year, so far…
All In A Day’s Work
A Love Supreme
Asleep In The Bread Aisle
More Grey Hairs
The Last Kiss
I expect Wale & Skyzoo to take 2 of those spots. Double Barrel could definitely get in the top 5 too. Then of course the obvious ones(Dre, Em, Jay, Nas & Damian, Reflection Eternal) all got shots
@venturasfinest being “good as shit” may be one thing, being top 5 album of all time is another… and is plain wrong
LOL @ some of you acting like Shake said it himself. Or co-signed it for that matter. Ignorance makes my blood pressure rise.
Album is not good at all. I’ve given it a fair few spins and it doesn’t hold together.
Fuck that Mr. Clean ass cockfucker. Asher Hasnt changed shit. He got fortunate enough to get a deal with mr. clean himself. Asher album since it has leaked is not horible there isnt really any quality lyrics. he has a hook and random listing of music artists he likes. The Greenhouse effect was great. Asleep in the bread aisle i say not. I am not a regular day pot smoking hippy. I am white and I cant relate to him. Put it this way he is a knock off version of Weird Al Yankovic. Top 2 White Rappers are: Eminem & Fort Minor. Ash hasnt done shit except put out pot smoking music for nerdy white guys. Maybe thats mr. cleans reference that was a change
How can he state it has changed hip hop before it has even been released? And what exactly has it changed?
I havnt heard more than 4 tracks off the album so i have no opinion but i dont see how it could have changed anything yet.
@ fakirwise the post does say blame it on shake.
now he’s just making himself look stupid

aight 1st off EVERYONE ON THIS SITE IS MAKING THEMSELVES LOOK STUPID!!! dude said its a top 5 cd that changed hip – hop, meaning revolutionary for its time, obviously cuz asher is white and he does have some mc skills. HE DIDNT SAY ITS A TOP5 ALBUM OF ALL TIME…..so all you idiots on here with yall comments should take a second listen!!!
Shake have someone with some smarts comment on this!!
lol come onn… I downloaded the album. I like Lark on my go kart cause of the beat. They lyrics are ok at best. Be by myself i like cause of ceelo and the beat. Lyrically he’s seriously just ok. No hating or anything. I like him. I just don’t think he’s top 50 let alone top 5. I do like him though, no joke.
Vito Polizzi (google or facebook)
Myspace.com/otivito
I don’t think it will change hit hop at all to be honest.
shake, can you feel the hate? i love this isht. people talking about 2dopeboyz co-signing steve rifkind’s comment need to stop skimmin and read more closely. duke actually says “i can’t say i agree” in the post.
[insert keyshawn johnson voice] and steve, c’mon man!
putting the conflict of interest aside, that’s blasphemy and ridiculous. i echo onewordtwotruths comment ^^^^^^^
Get it right pplz…he never said best of all time..he said, “one of the top 5 albums to CHANGE hip-hop”, MEANING, the album came at a time when THIS KIND OF HIP-HOP IS REALLY NEEDED. Asher’s very subliminal and indirect at times, but there hasn’t been an album with the kind of sound & influence that AITBA has, in years. Lyrically, he kinda has to hold back…mixtape proved to me his lyricism skills are on point. 1st album gotta keep u wantin more…and Lark On My Go-Kart is probably one of the best metaphorical records of this time…he doesn’t O.D. on “pop” crossover tracks, and the party joints (Lion’s Roar, Be By Myself) have substance which says alot these days.
Dope Trax=
Lark On My Go-Kart
La Di Da (some of the best production i’ve heard in years)
Be By Myself
Sour Patch Kids
As I ‘Em
Lion’s Roar
Bad Day
His Dream
and the bonus track Perfectionist.
Now, thats most of the album…I totally agree with Rifkind.
ok, i heard the album. not as bad as i thought it was gonna be. a decent overall album, but saying it changed hip-hop is hyperbole…saying its in the top 5 genre changing albums is even more so. i can see why people wanting roth to be hip hops great white hope, but the hype is taking over. the guy is fresh air in a stale genre, and hes blowing up because of the internet. people like to feel like something big, thats why i think hes getting so much love and hype. this is a college white boy rapping about partying, weed, drinks, bitches, his life, and people criticizing him…not exactly game changing. what i will say is the album ushers in the era of blogs and shit like that running/ruining hip hop….but of course i thought about my comment and its long, so no reads for me…
This album leaked???? I can’t find it anywhere.
Downloaded it, listened once almost all the way through (had to skip halfway through a few), and then deleted it cuz it was not good.
Sorry, but there have been far better albums released this year that deserve more hype then this guy is getting, it seriously makes me sick.
And why do people have to pull the race card? Like the color of your skin makes a difference on the mic? Talent is talent, regardless of the skin-tone.
Anyways, the only good thing I can say about this album is that they did a great marketing job by releasing this on 4/20. I can see every single college kid that smokes weed buying this album, which means it will probably outsell Jadakiss for the top selling album of the year. Just a guess…
this album is dope as fuck. smh @ people who get angry because people like something they dont. its music, it hits people different. i personally think this album is the best hip hop album ive heard in a while. (besides the new cunninlynguists album which is also so dope).
u peeps dont understand what he’s saying…. top 5 to have CHANGED hip hop…. only a small few have done that… and each in a different way…. i think asher roths album has definately changed hip hop today…. hes opened doors for white suburban kids to rap and be accepted by big black dudes…. there are people from the hood who bump asher… believe it… there are plenty of albums to could be argueably doper than asher’s… but did they change hip hop in a way? or were they just dope albums…. THINK ABOUT THAT.. asher has created a complete new genre and style for himself with this album, it very well could be top 5 to have changed hip hop in some way
Raising Hell
The Chronic
Straight Outta Compton
Enter the 36th Chambers
ATLiens
Ready to Die
3ft High and Rising
Low End Theory
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Illmatic
Slim Shady
Get Rich Or Die Trying
College Dropout
Operation Doomsday
We Can’t Be Stopped
Off the top of my head, the 15 albums listed, regardless of them being great albums, have all changed Hip Hop in one way or another. And there are dozens upon dozens more. To even think that AIBI will join these ranks makes my head hurt. Shit ain’t even the most influential album of the year. Mid-Life crisis is a hell of a thing, eh Rifkind.
Regardless of whether AIBI is a great album, which is highly debatable, HOW WILL IT CHANGE THE GAME?
if college dropout changed the game in any way, asleep in the bread aisle sure as hell could… as i said, asher has opened many more doors for other rappers… to be honest… half of those albums havn’t CHANGED hip hop.. they might have made people step back like ok.. dope ass album, maybe a classic.. but in no way have they CHANGED hip hop the way it is… soulja boy changed hip hop for fuck sake… he made the world hooked on gimic dance songs… its really a stupid topic all over
Post up the 4 other albums, besides AIBI, that have changed HIP HOP then. I’d love to see what AIBI passes over.

its really a stupid topic all over
its impossible to say which albums were the TOP 5 to change hip hop, and did they really change hip hop or just add a certain level to it? im simply stating its wrong to say ashers album wont change hip hop in a way, im pretty sure he’s already changed hip hop opening these doors for average white kids like himself, to be accepted and respected by many big artists like he is, and thats all im going to say on it.
I won’t say Ashers cd is top 5 material (haven’t heard it yet) but I do think it’ll change something, mainly just opening the doors for more regular dudes to enter the game.
I mean yea artists like Kanye and Lupe already did that, but now it seems like every new rapper follows in their footsteps in a way (they fall in that geek/nerd category).
So I’m waiting for the Asher guys, the plain people who didn’t have anything bad or good in their life’s, where everything was just plain boring or what have you and they’re just somehow making creative songs about that.
Did you guys forget Doom just dropped an album???
…..
Pac Div’s Church League Champions will change the game more than ASITBA and it’s only a Mixtape. Can’t wait for Grown Kids Syndrome.
u hate him cuz he’s black
Alright, I get it. Top 5 to change hip-hop…for the worse.
Dude is frat boy rap, getting his ish hyped by collegehumor and stuck up frat boys nationwide.
A couple of his tracks are fresh but there is little to no coherence in this album. Who is Asher Roth!? Is he a 5th grader with above average rap skills (Lark and I love college)? Or is he trying to be taken seriously? (cee-lo track and his dream)?
im a 21 year old, white, weed smoking college kid so i guess i fit the demographic and my opinion doesn’t count. but im also a huge hip hop fan and have been way before asher roth. why can’t i have some shit to relate to mother fuckers?!
heard the album. Dope as fuck. Classic
I wouldn’t say if Asleep In The Bread Aisle is in the top 5 albums that changed Hip Hop but after listening to this album, all I have to say is that it is dope…
