Damian Marley x Nas x Rock The Bells (Video)

[vimeo 4065610]

Here is my footage of Junior Gong and Gnozhir (c) eskay performing during the Rock The Bells press conference. Extra shout out (not really) to that old White guy with all those doofy chains on, as well as the White people in the crowd who rapped along to “Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang” in full (read: me getting a face full of n-bombs in unison. I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about that). My personal pick for Rock The Bells performances? Slum Village reuniting.

Im white and I dont do that…there is only one time I would say it, my friend CT (who is black) and I were riding around bumping music and rapping along to it. He stopped the music and was asked me why I wasnt saying the N word. I told him I wasnt comfortable with it, but then he was like “naw, its cool with me as long as its in a song, but i dont want to hear you say it otherwise!”. needless to say, i still DONT say it when im at a concert or with friends.

  9. as a white teenager i will admit that i say the n word when i rap along to some songs and that i say it jokingly with my white friends when we’re fucking around trying to act gangster. would i ever say it in a derogatory tone to a black person? NO. would i ever rap it in a song with black people around? not unless it slipped out by accident or if i was told it was ok. and those two situations would not be very comfortable to me. ive also told my black friends that i say it when no one is around sometimes and theyre cool with it so thats my take.

  10. yeah, i say “Ninja” instead haha, much less offensive.

  11. I know I already posted about not liking the N word, but I also want to say if I am by myself behind closed doors, what I say is my business. So I might say it then when Im rapping to a song by myself…but I have black roommates too so I have mad respect for the N word. White ppl should never cross that line.

  12. Mayne, it’s so good to see Baatin back in there (and Illa J added). I got high hopes for Slum Villa this year

  13. [...] Meka just came through with some footage of Gnoz and Jr. Gong performing at the Rock The Bells press conference yesterday night in Cali. [...]

  14. Haha, this I have black friends blah blah blah shit is great. I’m white and I say the shit when I rap along to songs. Check that Sean Price N-Word test video on YouTube.

  15. Im black, we did put it there..so can we really be that mad, nobody really makes songs with white people in mind…white people seem to approach this with a common sense frame of mind. I just don’t know fam…

  16. I am white and personally make it a point to never say it. I feel it is a complicated issue, however, because when artists use it it usually isn’t meant in a derogatory way. Then you have artists like Nas who on his latest cd defined the word as applying to any people who are oppressed. I personally wish artists would limit the usage of the word in songs because hip-hop is not confined to one race. I went to a Wu-Tang Clan concert this winter and was surprised that I could count the number of african-americans offstage on one hand. When you have a crowd full of white people, it just becomes awkward when everyone is chanting along. I mean I understand if an artist is the Dead Prez type, but most are not. If artists limited the usage, I feel the music in general would be a lot more accessible. And getting out your message is what hip-hop is all about. So unless it’s critical to the message being conveyed I really don’t see the point.

  17. look at this intelligent convo I started lol

  18. Funny, no one seems to have a problem if someone sings along to the words ‘cracker’, ‘wigger’ and ‘honkey’, so you know… I feel like one has to examine the intent someone places behind a word, rather than just the word itself. To give you some perspective on my point of view know this, I now live in Australia now but grew up during Aparthied, so I feel my point here is valid having been subject to a form of institutionalised racisim. Y’all just need to lighten up a little, (it’s a disgusting word, yet it is just that, it has only as much power as you give it, it can be co-opted and has been by many youth, as a term of endearment) the more we think of ourselves as different (better or worse), the harder we make unity. Ultimately we’re all the same, each race includes individuals that runs the gammet from genius to moron, saint to sinner, the ties that bind are stronger than the forces which wish to pull us apart. Really liking the video, just by the way.

  19. im going to rock the bells in nyc… taking a road trip with my boy from upstate.. shits finnabout to be sick.. blunts, bowls, bongs, and Nasir Jones

  20. bowls > blunts > bongs

  21. meka: SLum Village reuniting is sick, abut what about House Of Pain? I think thats dope as fuck too…

  22. Any new joints from Nas and Damian?

  23. man i just say. what the fuck ever.

  24. *say it

  25. hey guys, do you know how much the VIP passes ran for last year?

and what all did they inlcude? could you meet the artists and stuff?

  26. Man, been to the last 3 RTB and every last dead president was worth it. If you can swing it… go. I’m going. PEACE

  27. [...] to Jamrock” is last and you should already know how I feel about that Props to 2DB for the [...]

  28. If white people are paying money to go and see a concert and they have previously listened to the artist enough to be able to sing along to the lyrics they are hardly oging to be racist. If they love hip hop and it is in the lyrics then I don’t see the problem.

  29. If u listened to Nas’s Untitled album you will know that all ignorant people are Niggers! White, Black, Yellow or whuteva…
I think Nas is right with his message. You should really listen to his Untitled album! HipHop 4 grownfolks! And this comes from ‘White Guy’ livin together with a ‘Beautiful Black Woman’ from the Real Amsterdam, The Netherlands!

  30. @ yo

i know they did a song together but when that came out, i’d never would have thought that nas would do a song with damian.

  31. [...] and Jr. Gong mash it up for the highly legendary cast of the Rock The Bells conference. Props to 2DB for the live [...]

  32. i thought the VIP passes were a scam last year and wouldn’t waste the $ on it again. This was in Toronto so if the venue changes it could be better. Either way, it’s an event not to be missed.
Can’t wait for that Nas/Jr. Gong album. 2 of my favourite artists.

  33. I aint feelin it when white, Asians, or Latin folkz say the n word. I don’t think they should say it.
Looks like I’m alone on this but I just don’t like it.
But the ppls reasoning on here about the word is way better than niggaz like Ben Baller etc.
Folkz that think they are entitled to say it just because they hang with niggaz. That type of logic to me is fucked up.

  34. [...] shouts to 2dopeboyz [...]

  35. [...] shouts to 2dopeboyz [...]

  36. You trippin because some white people said nigga while they were singing along with a song? I think your talking about Paid Dues.
