I’m not really a fan of “tributing” rappers (especially on the days of their passing), but it just wouldn’t be right if today passed without recognizing one of the greats of the past. Big Moon Dog in his prime was that rare breed of “upper echelon MC” who had the ability to battle rap and make good songs and make a good album (Canibus should have taken notes). And while his way-too-short legacy will forever cast doubt over his “Top *insert number*” status, you can’ tell me that Capital Punishment wasn’t along the same lines of Illmatic/Ready To Die classic status. Enjoy some of his greates moments under the cut.

Big Pun is legend. Every rhyme was fuckin ILL.
RIP Pun.
“You aint even in Mi Clasa”
Such a beast. I remember when I first heard John Blaze. I started spazzin cuz nas’ verse was the dopest i’d ever heard, and then pun came in and out did it. That “even if I stuttered I would still SH SH SHIT on you”, was so crazy. R.I.P. Mr. Rios
Much respect.
but I laughed at how you can hear the gravy in that big niggas throat.
“It’s hard work baby
I just lost a hundred pounds, I’m tryin to live
I ain’t goin nowhere I’m stayin alive baby..
That’s my wife, I paid for them titties
Get your own, your own, ya heard?
Niggaz wanna fuck my wife, niggaz wanna take my life
but it’s so haaaaaard..”
Big Punisher RIP
He was so nice with it. If his sophomore release would’ve been on part with Capital Punishment he’d be right up there with the greatest of all time. He didn’t have the catalog to match up with some of the other greats, but just based on rhyming skill he was amazing. He might not have attempted complex conceptual tracks and his subject matter wasn’t the most diverse but the dude just rhymed really fucking well. One of the best flows you will ever hear.
RIP PUNISHA GONNA WATCH YOUR STILL NOT A PLAYER TRIBUTE DVD THIS WEEK
One of the best. Capital Punishment is in my top 5.

Still get goosebumps when that nigga spits that “dead in the middle of little italy, little did we know we riddled some middle man who didn’t even do diddley” as the beat drops.
RIP Pun

One of my top 5 of all time. “Listen, I don’t wanna fight I’d rather do whats right/ a boy needs a father that’s the most important part of his life.” That line still gives me goosebumps..every verse was classic in every song or feature he did. No one will take his place.
man i almost forgot how sick pun was and forever will be
