VIMBY and Uponthingz.com present The New Classics mixtape, produced by Cook Classics and executive produced by Mario Rangel and Cook Classics, droppin Feb. 18th.  VIMBY and Cook are hosting a contest giving an emcee a chance to get featured on a bonus track for the mixtape.  Go to www.imeem.com/thenewclassics to download the instrumental, record your verse, and upload it back on The New Classics imeem page.  The winner will be chosen by 2dopeboyz, the good folks over at Vimby.com, and Cook Classics.  Submissions end Feb. 14th.

  2. say what you want, as this is only my personal opinion, but i think the instrumental provided for the contest sucks. i know it’s supposed to be “hip-hop”, which is why it sounds like a 9th wonder beat, but the bottom line is that the melody sucks.

    if you played that shit out on a keyboard without drums it would be laughable how uncreative and musically elementary it is.

    and i’m not just saying this because it isn’t dirty south (the currently dominant sound) and i’m not saying it because it doesn’t sound like something made by kanye, neptunes, just blaze, etc.

    really, i just don’t like it because it’s boring and cliche…boring melody, cliche soul sample, boring and cliche sounding drums.

  3. I ain’t complaining about the beat. Any hungry emcee would spit over the sound of shit dropping in a toilet bowl if it meant that they had the opportunity to get some shine with their music. And thankfully, since the music doesn’t sound like shit (pun intended), it just helps the writing process even more. I’m definitely tryna get in on this contest.
