  1. WOW! This so great! The Roots on a Tonight Show or should I say Late Night Show (doesn’t matter nevertheless)!!! Who would have thought hip-hop would be able to do something like this.

Black Thought (who is one of the great lyricist yet underatted) rhyming on a tonight show! Wow! Imagine that! I followed the roots since the early 90′s when they started and they are stilling rocking. Holy smokes… and how they got this far is amazing to me.

  2. ^^^^^^^^^^^
well said…But damn how many late nite shows does NBC need to have? Jay, Conan, Carson, Rosie, and now Jimmy????

  3. THIS IS SOOOOO NOT GREAT!

with the roots being the house band…they wont have time to do albums like they do/did
am i the only one who has thought of this??????????????

Black thought is the Truth…behind 3000…of course! :)

  4. @ Ty….Jay Leno is retiring and Conan is taking his spot, Jimmy Fallon is taking Conan’s spot. But you’re right, they got mad shows goin on at one time. I’m still not too sure how I feel about Jimmy Fallon having a show though. Conan is funny, but Jimmy Fallon…..ehh….we’ll see

  5. haha man i wonder how much the roots are getting paid???

  6. Jimmy Fallon will work out fine. I’m glad to see Tariq is on board for this. Every night on the show can be Hip Hop 101 for the uninformed.

  7. trilogy, jay leno ins’t retiring…he’s going to be hosting a show that airs 5 times a week @ 10pm. no more late night dramas for nbc.leno-news-conan-jimmy-carson

  8. I almost can’t believe this..

But, it’s steady pay.. No one can download a live performance..

  9. Jimmy Fallon and his wife first met The Roots last Memorial Day Weekend when they performed at the Jazz Reggae Festival @ UCLA. The Roots played an amazing set, and Fallon instantly hit it off with them backstage. They’ve been in touch ever since, and now The Roots are Fallon’s in house band for his late night TV show

  10. JRF09′s comment is way off. haha.

firstly they got the gig through a producer (neil something) who worked on chapelle show. the roots were musical supervisors plus musical guests if you remember. anyways neil brought up the roots as a semi joke when brainstorming for the house band.

second. for the roots fans out there. this is not the end for them (at least i hope). they have said in their off time they continue to work on album and perform in NYC. the one perk of late night is NYC, versus conan and etc is based in California. The roots are in their 30s with families and the constant touring was a bit difficult to maintain.
