A (2)Dope $42 Music Video That’s Better Than Yours (Video)

[vimeo 2191006]

Taylor Engel deserves some serious dapage. Who is Taylor? Why does he deserve such praise? Well… it’s quite simple. Dude put together the above music video in one take and with a budget of $42. Shit is real dope. Shouts to Jacques Morel for shedding light on this. Hit the jump for the credits…

This is a one take, no cuts music video made with a budget of $42 by a group of students at the University of South Carlina.

  9. Ha, that was really dope. It reminded me of Xzibit’s What You See is What You Get Video. It also makes me want to throw up when I think about how much I spent on my video and I’m not even that crazy about it!

This other kid wanted to shoot another vid for me and said he’d do it for free, now he want’s to charge me 500. Which isn’t much, and is hardly anything compared to what I paid for my first one but i’m a man of principle. You say you wanna do it for free, you do it for free. If I’m gonna pay someone, it sure as hell won’t be the guy who changed his mind on me.

check my vid here if ur curious. http://www.myspace.com/otivito don’t hate too hard, i already told you i wasn’t crazy about it.

  10. wow…42 dollars or not, video concept was dope…what’s even more dope than that is the fact it was done in one take! Good shit, Shakezilla

  12. flyer than a whole shit load of videos out. fuck a yacht and a helicopter, this joint was dope.

  13. 42 dollars, good, but add the cost of tuition and the macs at their university, they spent the same as everyone else, they just had the shit already.

    ^^^^^^^

you think rap artists are paying for the mac and editing software everytime they make a video??? false. that shit ain’t taken into account for budget.

  15. This is dope! I don’t think anyone would have guessed that it only took $42 to make this and that it was done in one take if you hadn’t told us. I don’t really know what it takes to make a video but my guess is they already had a lot of the props or they borrowed them and they spent the $42 on actual media it was recorded on. Or they spent the $42 on KFC to feed all the people who participated. Either way if they can make something this dope off of just $42 imagine what they could do with that 700 billion dollar bailout money? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  16. this is an ill vid regardless of the cost. how much is rik cordero charging?

  17. @Gutter

I directed the video and you’re right, we did have access to expensive equipment and a Mac and all that. But how do you make a video for only $42? You get as much as you can for free! During the video I actually wasn’t in any courses in the Media Arts department at USC, so they wouldn’t let us check out equipment initially. So we made a deal where we made them 2 PSAs that they needed and in return we could use some equipment for 1 weekend. And keep in mind, at South Carolina, the equipment ain’t that great.

We got a lot of other stuff free to by being nice to people and crew members having connections. This guy Joe Jacobson owns a band practicing space called “The Warehouse” that he let us use for free. Our choreographer’s mom cooked for us (No, Trilogy, not KFC) so we had free catering one day. I needed a monkey mask for one part of the video, so I bought one for $60 from Party City and then returned it after we shot the video. See? That’s how you make a cheap video.
