Common’s A Blogger Now (Video)

You can visit his new spot, www.thinkcommon.com. Now it’s only a matter of time before he starts dropping off daily verses. If rappers are starting to blog now, where does that leave bloggers? I can’t rap for shit, so I’ll be hot damned if I let a rapper take my spot.

  1. haha… dont worry – we got your back meka & shake…. 2db > (every other blog) lol :D

  2. Sayin’ though. It’s only a matter of time before artists/entertainers get wise and start using the internet effectively. Social media is starting to take hold in corporate America, so I am not surprised more dudes are throwing sites up to promote themselves.
Hopefully, they utilize it correctly. Folks need to understand the difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.

In the meantime, top bloggers should offer their services to make a little change, if you know what’s good in the world.

  3. i have a feeling that the more common blogs, the less it will be about hiphop. it’ll be some “so i auditioned for this meryl streep movie” or “these fedoras are the truth” or something like that.

  4. sellout ass nigga..stop preaching that fake shit that you ain’t even really bout

  5. @ichal
That’s what he should talk about… engage his audience with some things are not all about his work. If he blogs, he should interact with his fans in some way. I don’t think many of his new fans would mind hearing about where he gets his weird fashion sense or what he does to stay in shape. That’s what makes Web 2.0 work – the ability with two-way communication.

  6. exactly. look at kanye’s blog; its hardly about “oh i found this new sample”… thats for ?uestlove. kanye gonna blog about what interests him, like what i (we?) do.

  7. But Kanye’s blog is still very linear… it’s just broadcasting. He’s sharing though, so that makes his blog a popular one. His fans do more interacting with each other, then Yeezy chopping it up with them.
I think if an artist on a level of Common would be willing to interact with people that actually pop up on his blog, then I think it would help him maintain and bolster his fanbase.

  8. khal > ichal

    lol…just sayin. it’s friday ha.

  9. Oh my bad man, I was a little blurry this morning. I was at the end of intermittent fasting.
Khal, what up doe from Detroit.

  10. i wouldnt say kanye’s blog is that linear. yeah he bigs up his shit, but he’s also like “yo this is my song” or “this sneaker is hot”. how much interaction do you think common will truly do? i hope he keeps it up, but his stock is doing more of a rise than a fall… i imagine he will be studying more scripts that doing the blog thing.

  11. I have yet to see Common land a real role with lines though. He can chase that Hollywood stuff all day, but I doubt he’s going to be like Will Smith remaking Japanese sci-fi thrillers as the lead.
And Common probably won’t do it. It would be smart for rappers to do so, especially lukewarm dudes from both coasts.
A lot of the acts that get featured here have a decent web presence. More and more cats are realizing they need to engage their audience by building relationships, as opposed to just promoting product. I think it will take a major dude though to really set it off. In fact, I think Diddy makes a great case; even though, I don’t think he actually comes up with the ideas for his content.

  12. *ahem* lot of artist been had personal blogs mayne no’zftp’o

  13. @Guvna Grand
Sure, lots of artists have personal blogs, but how many use them effectively? The answer is not many. You got Charles Hamilton, by default and… ?

  14. Lol… I’m on this site everday… no worries… but it looks like he got the same guy to do his site that did Kanye’s… just a guess
